it's funny that a passionate knicks hater can see the problem more clearly than a lot of knicks fans. i think we're too close to the issue and too impatient.
and, no, i don't expect too many responses to this one since it's not calling to "throw out everyone" or whatever.
I'm glad he addresses the major concerns of a PG and the combination of our 2 stars. People here are way too impatient and quick to say Melo is just an inefficient scorer and Amare is over the hill. Why can't everyone just see the real issues and how direct the solutions are and how they directly impact one another? You are right, there will be very little response to this because it is positive and many "fans" have already jumped off the ledge.

i think the big issue is guard play on this team. and i actually agree with those who say baron can't solve it all. it's true. if you look at the good teams in the league right now, it's the teams with great guard play.
look at the clippers, they've got chris paul, sure, but they have billups and mo williams and randy foye, all of whom would be our starting pg right now coming off the bench. and they're working in eric bledsoe just back from an injury. and you know what? they don't have too many guards! they wear teams down, running fresh guards at them.
same in philly with jrue holiday, lou williams, evan turner, jodie meeks, etc. same in okc with westbrook, harden, maynor, reggie jackson, and cook. same thing in denver. same thing in portland. same thing with minnesota, even.
you need guards in this league. and the teams with a LOT of guards are playing really well right now.
that's why i'd make JR Smith and getting Baron healthy a priority. if we have a quality rotation of guards, they'll be able to make our frontcourt that much more effective. i'd also seriously investigate adding mike james, unless J Lin is gonna keep getting minutes, which i'd be okay with.
We need a point guard and depth everywhere, it think that much is clear. But in order for us to make this team a contender we need a very good PG, the kind that we have no way of acquiring with our current roster situation.

As you completely ignore that we might have a good PG in Baron Davis. You can't close the book on Davis so early. So long as he doesn't have any setbacks we have to hold out hope that he'll be back.
I also think that we'll see the Knicks guards get better. Shump, Lin and even TD can improve with more work and I see little ways that they can be more effective. Lin in Particular really gets my attention cuz he has breakdown ability that none of our other active guards have and he has good court vision.
Baron is a score first PG with waning athleticism. If healthy he'll make us better (for now) but not contenders.

You say he's a score 1st PG? Good. We need a PG that is a threat to score as well as pass. Baron can pass with the best of them. We just need him healthy and in shape. Let's get him on the court and see how far that takes us. And by the way dude was still able to dunk last year. He wasn't as done as Bibby.
I agree we need to be patient...patient until the day Dolan is no longer involved with the team.
Baron in a week (or more, lets see how the plot develops).
Lin stays. Bibby is cut in favor of JR/Martin. Reverse order and the Knicks don't know what they are doing.
Agressively pursue a trade for a backup PG. Make Douglas and the low gang available. Consider Fields ONLY for the right player, especially if JR is signed.
Win.

You realize how desperate and sad all of this would sound to an objective outsider (someone who isn't a Knicks fan)?

You mean a non-Knick fan like Bill Simmons?!

My guess is even Bill Simmons would say that hoping for JR Smith to turn the season around is desperate.

Sad? Yes. Desperate? Definitely. But it is still a plan build on a reasonable premise. When you do t have starting caliber guards on your active roster it's both sad and desperate but you need to then plan on getting some by any means available.
I would much rather see us doing that than tanking for some stupid lottery.

risks of the lottery:
look who the houston rockets just didn't pick up options on: jordan hill, hasheem thabeet, jonny flynn and terrance williams (picks 8, 2, 6, 11 in 2009)
yeah tanking sounds like a much more sound option!

Risks of starphucking: see 2000 millenium for the Knicks.

The point of this thread is that the Knicks should see what they look like with Baron... to an objective outsider. And actually, Simmons hates the Knicks even more than you and he knows basketball, so he might be worth listening to.

You can't distinguish between hating the Knicks (not me and likely no one here) and hating the starphucking course of the Knicks this and last decade (me and several others here)? Are you just being a troll or do you really not understand the distinction?

pretty sure out of the two of you, crzy isn't the one being a troll.
Wow Bill Simmons actually throwing a bouquet of flowers on the Knicks, that there's hope! Now we just need Barkley to say we're one Baron Davis and JR Smith from being a competitive team again
