Lakers in desperate need of consistency from World Peace

Posted Feb 2 2012 10:03AM

In the latest incarnation -- after the name change, after the coaching change, after the lineup change -- Metta World Peace is starting again. It has been two games and Mike Brown said he hopes to stick with the Artist Formerly Known as Ron Artest at small forward, which means one thing:

The Lakers desperately need him to be dependable.

This is an important time for the team, 2-7 on the road and entering a stretch of six in a row and nine of 12 away from Staples Center, and an urgent time for the player. They are laboring but still potent and he is ... well, hmmm, what day is it? He is around. Put it that way.

Life with World Peace, of course, comes with uncertainty as a permanent attachment. Except now the Lakers need him more than ever. More than the first season, 2009-10, as they broke up a proven championship roster by letting Trevor Ariza walk as a free agent to sign Artest. More than the following season, as L.A. went for the rarified air of a three-peat.

Kobe still calls him Ron.

World Peace needs to go play in China or something

looking for stability from arguably the least stable player in all of the NBA....how ironic. Whats also IRONIC is this is a KNICKS BOARD. Why do we care? Is there some relevance I'm missing?

I wish we had drafted World Peace when he was Ron Artest instead of Frederic Weis

I also wish we could do undo that Nene for McKnees trade, but that's neither here nor there...

The joys(Pain!!) of being a Knicks fan I guess...

his best position would probably be PF as a rotation player 9th man at his age now.
While he still can be used at times, he hes become a big tweener at the Forward position, unlike his G/F days.
If Lakers can get under the cap, without adding more salaries with trades this year.
With Bynum possibly opting out and with a possible trade, its a realistic option to amnesty him with 3 years left or Walton with 1 more season left, during the off season.
It is unlikely they probably won't get any value for him at this point of his career, without taking a bad contract.
his production does not match his salary, with his production closer to veteran minimum's production...

He is strong and he is wide but his speed/quickness and inability to create his own shot or for others consistently, makes it hard for him to find a consistent role.
Sadly he can probably be used on the Knick's with his ability to post up, stretch the floor, and play defense, with JJ's role here occasionally at Center and PF when match ups permit.
But with Bynum and Gasol getting the majority of the minutes, he doesn't have the room to operate and he doesn't have the speed/quickness and skills to play the SF.
With

McRoberts
Murphy

both having a better suited games to fit the bench at PF/C

Barnes
Goudelock
Kapono
Ebanks

being better options at SF/G, its hard to find time to fit a role for the Lakers.

The relevance will become clear if and when we sign JR Smith, who will then change his name to Summa Universal Chaos
