Well said.
More than anything, Carmelo and Amar'e want to win. Whatever errors in judgement or ego were NOT out of character flaws.
You sure about that? What do you think the Denver fans would say? I don't know what to think anymore after seeing Melo take so many bad shots.
I agree that Amare is a team-first player and don't see any character flaws with him.
I don't remember anyone or the Denver fans complaining about Melo in the past? Did the Nuggets do better without him last year? He routinely won 50+ games with the Nuggets every year in a loaded Western conference now all of a sudden he was a problem. Fans kill me.
But melo hasn't been good withour team tahts all that counts. You can tell the past week when he is out our offense is much more up tempo and the defense is getting good stops. melo is a great scorer but that doesn't mean he is a great complete player like lebron or nash
JCrusher wrote:melo is a great scorer but that doesn't mean he is a great complete player like lebron or nash
Is Carmelo a better basketball player than Bill Walker?
That is all that matters.

Ya but your missing the point. Melo has to let lin lead the team from now on in order for this to work. He also has to flow with the rest of the team. We know amare can do that. time will tell if melo can hopefully he can

Let Lin lead the team?
Is Carmelo going to insist on being the focal point and having the ball in his hands more than anyone?
Really?

No one has been good with this current team because we didn't have a facilitator. Melo, Stat and the likes had to create offense on thier own until Lin arrived on the scene. Now, Melo can go back to his comfort zone and no longer has to play point forward. With Lin breaking down the defense, Melo can receive and finish from the elbow and baselines. FG% wise, Melo had had his best seasons when he played with Andre Miller, a pure pg.
JCrusher - Carmelo is not a villain. He was guilty of trying too hard.
One more thing, if Carmalo INSISTS on being the focal point, that is a responsibility of the head coach to manage.
Everyone knows, including Carmelo, that this is Jeremy's show now.

Its funny how Amare all of a sudden gets a pass when just weeks ago, there were multiple threads about how STAT has lost a step, doesn't explode to the rim like he used to, doesn't give max effort on defense, doesn't rebound....Now all of a sudden he'll be fine and fit in. Why is that?

A. Because this isn't last week. The Knicks have dramatically changed their playing personality right before our disbelieving eyes.
Expect the unexpected.

In the eyes of many, Melo is the villian. Because of him, the beloved Gallo was traded. It seems personal to me. These posters can be serious about not wanting a pure scorer in the line up to pair with Lin and his pg instincts. Melo on the wing, Chandler rolling to the left of the rim, Stat rolling in from the baseline and Lin rolling to the right of the rim.....talk about elite options.

Good answer, Earl. But that question wasn't for you. The question was posed to point out the double standard some have set forth....

Relax Uptown no need to come to melo's rescue lol. Look amare hasn't had a geat year but he was playing much better until his tragedy. also Amare plays much better with a pure pg like nash/felton/lin. Now I didn't insult your precious melo. in fact i said in plain english hopefully he will fit because i want him to fit with lin. But im sorry i cant be like you and kiss his ass all teh time lol

Misterearl i never said that. All i said is that melo has to let lin run the show and he just need to get good shots as well as look for teamates like lin is doing. Did i say villian? No so stop making up stuff thanks
Bonn1997 wrote:MarburyAnd1Crossover wrote:Bonn1997 wrote:I see more similarities to his game and Chauncey's. Both are very effective scorers but not quite pure PGs.
I think more purity will emerge from his PG skills when Amar'e comes back.
Right now he's balling with Tyson and Jeffries. And Novak. Not terrible players but nowhere near Amar'e in ability to drop the buckets after receiving the ball on the fly.
That's a good point. We'll have to see what happens.
I'm actually thinking Steve Nash is a good comparison, because Lins passing is very good, as is hit court awarenessm, and he doesn't JACK up shots. He always thinks drive first and take it from there, and he doesn't pick up his dribble, which is what you really want out of your PG.
I'm very curious to see how things work out with Stoudemire and Melo.
JCrusher wrote:All i said is that melo has to let lin run the show and he just need to get good shots as well as look for teamates like lin is doing.
Your implication is that Carmelo is going to be a problem due to some unwillingness to change, otherwise it would NOT be an issue. It is obvious to a blind man that Lin is running things. Why would an all star basketball player not see that?
Bonn1997 wrote:nixluva wrote:Bonn1997 wrote:I see more similarities to his game and Chauncey's. Both are very effective scorers but not quite pure PGs.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Can you explain a bit more what you're seeing. I see CB as more of a guy that isn't always looking to attack a defense. He's spent the majority of his career staying out at the 3pt line and waiting for RIP to come off a curl or some other option to emerge. He really never played PnR and tho he does drive now and again it's not a constant aspect of his game. Lin is more like Nash to me in that he's always probing the defense and attacking. Lin is a scorer, but he's much more of a pure point than Billups ever was.
I'm seeing too many turnovers to be a pure PG at this point. And he seems to think shot-first although that may change when Amare and Melo return. Billups attacked the basket more in his prime than when he was on the Knicks.
I don't believe he thinks shot-first, I think it's more of giving what the defense allows. During this stretch, the bulk of his assists have all come in the first half. Teams go into the break and make adjustments, especially on the P&R, but free things up for Lin to find his own. He's just been doing an excellent job of making teams pay for it.
He's scored 19 points in the 2nd half of both the Nets and Jazz games. Last night Lakers basically dared him to shoot every time they went under the screen. Hit the shot and you make the passing game a whole lot easier.
Look forward to seeing how he evolves his games as teams start preparing for him.
The PG makes all the difference in the world. Melo and STAT really don't have to force anything. I think they'll flourish just like everyone else has. It's like saying Melo can't play with Nash or CP3!!! REALLY!!! A good PG is a good PG and that helps everyone!!! Not saying that they can't resist, but I don't see it. Why can't Lin run a PnR with Melo or STAT or hit them coming off a curl?
