Dumb luck and catching lightning in a bottle aren't reasons to keep a useless head coach.

You don't understand basketball.
It's not just 10 guys running around randomly, hoping the ball falls in their hands.

That's more than clear. Its also clear that there have been times when his players weren't bringing it and neither was the head coach.
Jeremy Lin does not wash away every mistake D'Antoni has made as coach as hard as some of you may try. The only thing Lin validates is that D'Antoni's system runs better with an above average PG. Nothing else.
Besides, most of these "hater" thread aren't coming from "haters". There are very few people on this board who actually want D'Antoni fired on the spot.
Surely, MDA is not without fault. Not even close. But there's enough people here who want him fired because of some flavor of the week POS. but MDA has never had a starting unit worth more than 33 games before last season. When your best player is Avi Lee you ain't winning sheeit.
What NBA coach likes record roster change and uncertainty??? Name a coach that has ever had this much roster turnover and media criticism? Last year he had to work in Felton and Moz and Fields into a new starting five with STAT and Gallo. people seem to forget that Felton struggled and that made STAT struggle. Fields and Moz were both rooks. This idea that MDA is too stubborn or not a good coach is rubbish. Dude won Titles in Europe and could've gotten to the NBA finals with a little luck or a defensive Center.
Now most of the negative crap came during the 2 years when this team wasn't even trying to win as much as get under the cap!!! It's totally unfair and lacking any insight. The dude finally gets the team going and they start the trade crap and his players start being effected. Then the trade caused all kinds of problems. Still they looked ready to start the playoffs. I think there's just a lot of bias that's unwarranted if you look at things clearly.

same goes for Tom Coughlin. he just keeps getting lucky by catching "lightning in a bottle."

When asked what made this offense better suited for him than GS or Houston:
One thing I can say is Coach D'Antoni is an absolute offensive genius. The way that he puts in new plays every single game. The way that he creates this system, and every single game during walk through, he'll do something different. He'll do it to adjust to that specific team's defense. Playing for him, he makes us look good, but it's pretty fun.

right. but Mike wants to coach basketball not ISO-ball. there's no amount of adjusting to accommodate that.

Bro...it's an excuse...Melo does ISO at times but not all the time...You saw a true ball stopper last night in Kobe..There was a time when a guy who was able to post up was a commodity...I'm just amazed a player like Carmelo is looked upon as a liability...To me, it's just another excuse...All I know is if he doesn't make it work this year he should be gone...

MDA has been adjusting to his personnel since he got here. He's slowed things down and simplified things and gone with lineups he was never known to favor. This is just pure BS. Melo needs to play within the system unless there a need for him to go ISO. There's no need to force a shot when the offense creates tons of open looks all the time.
Melo's gonna be needed in tight playoff games as we all know when you face another great team they won't let you just run whatever you want. Still if Melo buys in during the regular season this team can win a lot of the remaining games and get a better playoff seeding. So he rather than the coach needs to buy in and play TEAM BALL. I believe Melo will do that cuz he's shown he's willing already this season. Melo only felt the need to force things cuz we were losing and with no PG, the role players weren't playing well.

No one doubts that D'Antoni has dealt with adversity, but having to deal with it alone doesn't give him a pass. I'm judging how he
responded to a situation that he placed himself in. Now that the Knicks have found their PG I'm hearing that D'Antoni didn't deserve
the criticism without any distinction between fair and over the top. Maybe if that was made more often we wouldn't have all this "hater" stuff to deal with.

no the fans that were chanting "pass the ball" every time it stuck with Melo are telling you he doesn't play team ball. not saying he can't. just seems it's not his preference.

Melo's game is a lot like the game of most of the guys that we will find on the All Star team this year...Many coaches have found ways to win multiple Championships with these type of players..It's an excuse...

Melo isn't a point forward nor should he be...Circumstances and the coach dictated that he played that position...He will be a much better player playing his old role... But the coach still has to make it work...We should be running the offense we will use in the playoffs but who am I...
