Knicks · Kelly Tripucka is an idiot (page 1)

machomet25 @ 2/15/2012 8:20 AM
Right after the game Tripucka said, "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?". MSG always goes to twitter for comments, and they should have addressed the comment. This is disgusting and he needs to apologize tonight. Him and Whitlock def. have some messed up minds.
babyKnicks @ 2/15/2012 8:25 AM
It's a play of animal house...I'm pretty sure this is the third time someone has commented on that statement on this board and we have to remind you of a movie that this line comes from made famous by John belushi.

machomet25 @ 2/15/2012 8:28 AM
sorry, i didn't see any other thread about this. But the line (regardless of where its from) is still disrespectful given his race. Its over the line. It's like if they made some 9/11 joke from a movie if a player of middle eastern descent had a great game.
NYKBocker @ 2/15/2012 8:28 AM
Yup. I guess you have to be older to know this.

machomet - You need to apologize immediately for getting lathered up over nothing.

machomet25 @ 2/15/2012 8:41 AM
well its apparent a lot of people don't get the reference based on the twitter response. thats all i'll say.
Silverfuel @ 2/15/2012 8:45 AM
Are you serious?
franco12 @ 2/15/2012 8:46 AM
they even acknowledged the reference on air- because I didn't get where it was coming from, old enough, but not having watched the movie.

I have to agree its a classic, and its time I put that on my netflix queue.

Machomet,

Even if you don't know the movie, what is it about the line that you connect with a racial or ethnic bias?

I think pearl harbor, Japan, Lin is Asian (not Japanese by the way). Lin in reality has nothing to do with pearl harbor other than being of Asian descent.

Just a hunch as to the concern. Maybe upset Germany getting blamed? :-)

Lin is of Taiwan-Chinese ancestry. He was born in California.

If anything, the Japanese in many ways are despised by the Chinese for the occupation of that lead up to WW2. They Japanese were horrific in there tactics to civilians. Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor to knock our our western fleet as we had enacted a embargo on Japan to stop the imports of steel and oil needed to fuel their Chinese expansion. Japan saw that as an act of aggression. It was not practical for Japan to attempt any attack on mainland United states although we used that "threat" to help motivate our country from an isolationist bystander in this time of history.

Blutto in the movie was ignorant and the line was to demonstrate it. It was funny as hell then, and now.

SlimChin @ 2/15/2012 9:11 AM
yeah c'mon man haven't you watched one of the greatest movies of all time Animal house? go rent it if you haven't.

"A pledge pin!!! on your uniform?!?!!?"

Moonangie @ 2/15/2012 10:09 AM
Are you trying to equate Lin's Taiwanese ancestry with Japan? Dude, your reaching for straws...get over it. The quote is from a classic movie.
OasisBU @ 2/15/2012 10:11 AM
Seriously?
MattSuspect @ 2/15/2012 10:17 AM
This is like Sione Pouha of the Jets (which I love both him and the team) saying the opposing player doing the "Jet" was disrespectful because of 9/11. No connection whatsoever.
BasketballJones @ 2/15/2012 10:30 AM
And we all know Kelly Tripucka is really a genius, so this thread makes no sense at all.

Zeke would like a word with you, he doesnt like it when you give others any type of credit

jrodmc @ 2/15/2012 3:33 PM
I cannot believe nobody in this thread is mentioning the incredible bare tits scene in that movie. Philistines!

It makes for much, much better conversation than trying to correct a 3 post newbie mutant who doesn't get the fact that it was actually the Russians who bombed Pearl Harbor.

Just as an aside, my first basketball camp, Tripuka was there as one of the star counselors, and it should be noted:
- he's funnier in person than he is on twitter.
- he played one on one with Moses Malone and Mo used him like so much fresh meat in the cell block.
