Knicks · JLin is the best point guard in the league. There I said it. (page 4)

Getting a chance to watch Harrelson and Shumpert play kindled my interest, but this team was going nowhere until Lin resurrected the season, and these days I am actually setting aside time to watch Knicks games, something I was not doing before he came onto the scene.

I'd never even think to say he is the best PG in the league, at least not until he has a few years under his belt and some playoff success, but Lin seems to have all the tools to be an excellent PG, and maybe a great one at certain times.

What has stunned me the most is his offensive versatility and his defensive skill. He has so many ways to hurt you as a scorer, including his jump shot, which was supposedly a major weakness in his game. He can finish, even with contact, hit the mid-range J, has that little running floater as he goes to the basket, and has shown a decent enough 3 pt stroke, especially in clutch situations.

He is also a surprisingly good defender- both man to man and off the ball. His physical strength is underrated, and the kid is an athlete and competitor who seems to up to the challenge of guarding the better PGs in the league. Down the line, with Lin at PG, and Shumpert at SG, we are going to have a solid defensive backcourt, without a doubt.

We struck gold with Lin, and it's easy to make a case that getting him the way we did is the equivalent of having another lottery pick in in the most recent draft. The turnovers are annoying, but he is basically a rookie at this point, and I expect him to have some issues in this area. This is where MDA is supposed to show what kind of coach he is as far as molding PGs. Hopefully they develop the same chemistry that MDA had with Nash.

Is he the best PG in the league? Nope... but he is playing like a contender for that title, and nobody could have expected him to be in this position at this point, or for the Knicks to have him on their roster.

Excellent post

Yeah, cuz those guys don't have anyone to pass to.
Rajon Rondo playing with a bunch of D-Leaguers much?

All those guys are proven for multiple seasons and deep playoff play. But alas Jeremy Lin has dethroned those guys with his terrific play for the last 8 games.

My apologies.

Right now over the last 10 games Lin has played better than ALL of those guys and put up numbers to prove it, so yes over that time he HAS BEEN the best PG in the league. Get it?? He has the skills and the POTENTIAL to be a top tier PG in the long term - That is all people are saying. Stop trying so hard to prove yourself right and maybe you'll be able to see what other people are saying.

And BTW, Lin's Knicks gonna surpass Rondo's C's in the standings by next week.

He still has a lot of work to do. Given the circumstances though he has been amazing. Can't wait to see what he can become with more seasoning.
AnubisADL @ 2/19/2012 7:40 PM
BTW, Tony Parker has been quietly putting up monster stats as well and I didnt include him.

Anubis,

It's okay to be a non-Knick fan. The Bulls are a good team to root for this year -- I think you'd be happier there. I couldn't stand them the whole time they had Cartwright, BJ Armstrong, Pippen, Grant, Paxson, and MJ, etc. Were you berating the Knicks at that time as well? There was plenty to criticize -- there were some painful moments when it looked like Reggie Miller was right when he called us chokers.

Me, I was rooting my heart out for Starks while realizing they were better. But not this time. We're better. Watch, we'll get them this year.

Way to pile on.

Why does it always have to be about which player is the best in the league when what's most important is how greatly he fits in this team and how much he has elevated our game?

Frankly all I was worried about since this Linsanity started was if this was real or just a tease with huge heartbreaking potential. The truth is Lin is for real and so are the Knicks.

Thats all that really matters.

You are right, being and integral part of the team is what really matters. But what we are witnessing doesn't happen often, in fact it has never happened before. So naturally comparisons and questions and stats will come up in discussions. What we are seeing is a black swan event. This happens to be positive for the Knicks and has the potential for being something magical.

If Lin hasn't been the best PG in the league over the past 9 games, who's been better?

i like rondo but he is overrated because he has played with hall of famers

Way too early to say Lin is the best PG in the league but he has the skill set to maybe take that spot in the future. I saw this think on ESPN a few days ago where they broke doen Lin's game and compared him to a few players in the league;

1. Explosive first step that allows him to get to the rim.
2. Excellent court vision.
3. Spin move is as fast as D Rose.
4. Get's his 3 point attempts off fatser than Ray Allen.

This kid has the skill set and will only get better as he gets more experience. It's premature to call him the best PG in the league but not far fetched that he will someday will be. He's only 23 and no of us know where his celing is.

kinda premature but I LIKES WHAT I SEES SO FAR

I agree. its just 9 games but damn they were amazing. I'm guessing they're comparing that spin move Lin did against LA. I don't know, I still think Rose has a quicker move and he does it regularly when he's healthy, I've only seen Lin do it once. He's been Rose-like in his production. Great to know you have that at PG when the rest of the team isn't making their shots.

knickstorrents @ 2/20/2012 9:22 AM
Well 8-1 without Amare and Carmelo... counts for something for sure.
NYKBocker @ 2/20/2012 10:59 AM
Lin is the best PG in the league in the past 2 weeks. That much is true. I think Lin will be the best PG in the league by seasons end and should be considered for MVP.
SupremeCommander @ 2/20/2012 11:03 AM
I don't agree but I love the justified enthusiasm

Over last 9 games I say Lin has been best overall player in NBA

He has Avg of 25 and 9 that is by far the best numbers in NBA

And 2 steals ..... 8-1 record

Def hard to argue his value last nine games

But still too early to say he is top 5

jrodmc @ 2/20/2012 1:56 PM
I miss Ray Felton so much.
