Knicks · What can Jeremy get next year...$$$? (page 1)

grillco @ 2/20/2012 7:37 PM
Since he went undrafted and was not given an initial max or minimum contract what's the limit on his windfall for 2012-13 season?

Of course he would need to maintain a certain level of gaudy stats to be in a position to make any big demands, but can he start getting something like $10 million per next year or does he have to wait a while to get a big contract? And if he maintained his stat line AND lowered his TOs how much is he worth on the open market?

MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 2/20/2012 7:38 PM
He should get a max deal, 6 years 120m$
MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 2/20/2012 7:38 PM
He's putting up max player numbers, tell me he's not.
Voltron @ 2/20/2012 7:51 PM
I'm also thinking the endorsements are going to start rolling in big time ...

Is that CB-based or your best guess? I was hoping for him that he could score bigger. And if the MLE is the legal max he can get from a team, how many years can he get?

Then as a further question, if he takes a single year MLE next year, is he eligible for a true unrestricted (to max $$$ and length) contract?

There was a reason I didn't communicate with you, thanks for reminding me why.

That said, I'll give you that it's completely audacious of me to come to a Knicks forum and expect any of the other forumites to offer a quick breakdown or response to information they have with any explanation for a like minded fan.

I miss the NYTimes board. Good times there daily, here...not so much.

you are asking a lot of different questions. all answered more fully and accurately then i can provide. Lookup Larry Coon or NYTimes article.

And BTW, I tried to help you out there, didn't mean to be abrupt. Good that you can take the high road and appreciate some help or at least a pointer in the right direction.

Martin - I'm not sure about MLE being his max for next year - I think that's the Max the knicks can offer him since the knicks are over the cap and the knicks would have to be able to offer the MLE to him, and can match up to the MLE if they have that available, BUT if a team has more than the MLE available, they can offer that to Lin, up to the max, and Lin can accept.

no. you are 100% wrong. no team can offer more than MLE. been confirmed in tons of places. i'd dig up the hard proof, but you'd have to buy my band's EP.

As Martin stated to look in previous threads and to search Larry Coon, Lin is virtually untouchable to other teams via the "Gilbert Arenas provision":

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/758355...

Teams are limited in the amounts they can offer to restricted free agents with fewer than three years in the league. This rule is called the "Gilbert Arenas provision," named after the point guard following Arenas' move from Golden State to Washington in 2003. Even though Arenas was a restricted free agent and the Warriors had the opportunity to keep him, the team did not have the means under the salary cap to match the offer sheet he received from the Wizards. At the time, Arenas had played two seasons in the league, and like the Knicks currently, could offer only the mid-level exception.

The Arenas provision was added to the rulebook in 2005, restricting the offers that teams can make to restricted free agents with one or two years in the league. Under the Arenas provision, the first-year salary in an offer sheet can't exceed the mid-level exception, which ensures that the Knicks will have the means to match any offer that Lin may receive.

Larry Coon wrote an article that was on ESPN.com about a week ago. I think that has the most complete information set

Jeremy can sign a max deal. He just cant get paid more than 5 million the first 2 years of the deal. So he could make 5, 5, Max, Max.
knickstorrents @ 2/21/2012 5:42 PM
So max MLE in terms of duration is what... 5 years?

AnubisADL, this is the second time you posted this....and this will be the second time someone tells you that this is incorrect. I'm getting the impression you are just posting this info that you know is wrong. Please respond with some explanation.

Larry Coon references the Gilbert Arenas rule as our way to keep Lin. Knicks only have to match the 1st year of the offer sheet which they can with the MLE. See below.

Isn't there a limit to how much of an annual raise you can get (like 8 or 10%). I don't think you can get $5 mil one year and $15 mil the next year.
