melo and lin looked fine together last night - if anything melo tried too hard to fit into the offense, if melo isn't rusty and converts on like 4 out of the 6 layups he had, this game is a much different story. melo and lin looked good out there together, melo had a few beautiful passes for assists and the first team started off the game very nicely. melo was not a ball-stopper in the least, whenever he got the ball, he made quick decisions with the it and didn't really venture out of the offense. he's rusty, so there's obviously going to be an adjustment for him, especially now with the team changing so drastically since the last time he was out there with them. you can do all the bridge-jumping, all the bitching and moaning, but when it comes down to it, the team ran into a hot player (deron williams) who had a big game and killed us. they also made a million 3's, what are you going to do? sometimes you run into a team like that, especially with a top player with a chip on his shoulder.
i just don't know whats happened here, maybe it's the influx of all new people but god damn. people need to chill the fuck out.
After over a decade of disappointment were all just waiting for the inevitable collapse. This kind of reaction to what is really an unimportant game during what will be an adjustment period is to be expected.
Melo has to prove it on the court. He's at 39% on 20 shots a game for the whole season (not just one game). I'm definitely willing to wait to see how plays with Lin but that doesn't mean I can't evaluate what has happened this year.
It only incited two trade proposals!
really bad games light up the trade checker and three coaching changes!
Some folks don't watch the games. Some just totally mortified that we lost to the Nets!

Couldn't agree more. Its really getting annoying and its probably why many long time posters dont post as much....
It's the typical bandwagon syndrome. People who wouldn't fart at Knicks-Nets are suddenly Linsaned into thinking every effing game is playoff elimination. If not for BoyLin, the majority of these whiners would normally be hotstoving baseball right now, and planning out their March Madness brackets.
Must be like what just getting started with crack is like.
I still hate the Nets anyway.
A couple of Fantasy traders with a couple of haters will do that..
What I don't understand is why Melo had to start and play 37 minutes coming off an injury? MDA should have had him come off the bench, and eased him back into the rotation.
Also- I thought the initial substitution patter last night was bad - I guess it was in the second quarter when we had all scrubs in there, with Davis running the point.
MDA or someone on the staff clearly said something as in the second half, with the bench in there - he still had 2 starters on the floor.
MDA does suck at rotations.
You can see Deron was trying to one-up Lin for being the springboard mentioned in every news story of the last couple of weeks. I'm fine with that; the Nets are not going anywhere this season. He can jack up 30 points per game if he wants.
Meanwhile, Lin (correctly) is probably thinking more about how to work with everybody to make NY a real contender. I'm willing to take those kinds of losses; we've got some -- not much, but still some -- room for error at 8th and therefore the time to work people back into the game. I'm not too worried about Melo; he has the skill-set and all that's needed is for him and Lin to really know how to work together. Jorts will be back soon. Davis isn't chump change. Shump will be back (fingers crossed, second injury. ugh). Tyson will cool down once things start falling into place.
My worry is Amare; something is wrong with him. We've dissected it in other posts, but can't put a finger on it. If Amare's not going to be of help, I'd rather have the Chandler PnR option. JJ may make me cringe once he dribbles but I'll take his 2-3 clunkers and 1-2 turnovers but good defense and hustle over Amare's mysterious decline.

He's also been banged up for most of the season. No denying he played like crap last night but it's to be expected after missing 7 straight games after having played 5 mintes in another before pulling his groin.

I agree. The only thing that I did not like last night was the offense not starting in Lin's hands. I thought it broke our timing and we had wasted possesions. JR Smith did this. Landry and Melo as well. In Melo's post game interview, he mentioned this so obviously he is a very smart basketball player. I think he said this as a way to inform JR and others to give up the ball to Lin after change of possesion.

Lol, what??
No one needed any informing before Melo came back.
Problem is: Melo thinks he's the Big Kahuna when it should be Lin.
This isn't overreacting. It's being realistic. Melo can't work in this system.
Either MDA or Melo goes, and watching that awesome 8-1 run without Melo, I hope it's Melo that goes.

great point bocker, noticed that myself last night. i didn't watch any of the postgame stuff so i'm glad to hear melo recognized it and is going to talk to jr about it.
i don't think there is a better example to show someone what jr smith is as basketball player as these past 2 games. you get the good: the game against the mavs and you get the horrible: last night. if that doesn't epitomize what jr smith is as a basketball player, i don't know what does. guys like melo, amear and especially chandler have to really flaunt their status on the team and get a guy like jr to just play the role he's supposed to play. if he does, he's a very good asset to this team.
Bro Lin already talked to JR before Melo came back, JR knew what the deal was with him and Lin.
IT'S THE PRESENCE OF MELO THAT DISRUPTS LIN'S LEADERSHIP. Now you have guys confused about who the Kahuna is.
JR didn't need any "INFORMING" about how to play with Lin before Melo came back.
It's Melo's presence that disrupts the heirarchy on the court.
Someone on this board said something smart. We expect the organization to be consistent yet we as fans arent. Something has got to give.

Melo isn't a spot up jumpshooter, and Lin isn't Allen Iverson.
After the Miami game on Thursday 2/23, the next game is 2/29 vs the Cavs. I know Melo, Lin and Shump are going to take part in some of the ASG stuff but hopefully that leaves some time for these guys to practice together.
Biggest worry is Amare continuing to look clueless on D and getting 4 boards in 35 minutes. With Chandler out most of the game Humphries was killin us on the boards (4 offensive!). If he's not his usual explosive self AND not hitting his J he is killing us out there. Really hope he's just out of shape/mentally not over his brother's death and this is not what we have to watch for the remainder of his contract

Melo was giving up the ball to Lin all game and had 6 assists last night, 3 less than Lin. Yes, he can play in the system and will play in the system fine. The guy had a bad night...you know 1st game back from an injury. The entire team played like dog crap last night. Stat shot 7 for 17, Lin 7 of 18, JR 2 for 8 and Novak 3 for 10 and this solely rides on Melo's 4 for 11. He took less shot than Lin, STAT and 1 more than Novak. Looks
Dude c'mon...for someone who claims not be a Melo hater you sure seem to be a Melo hater. The entire team played like crap and we only lost by 8. For as bad as they played last night a few foul calls and a copy of lucky bounces our way that the Nets got and it's a different story.
Just shows me when this all comes together we have a freaking awesome team.
