To me it's not having 3 point snipers and chandlers presence

knicks1248 @ 2/27/2012 9:48 PM
Tyson and dirk complemeted each other 10x better then amare and tyson..it a reason he shooting much more jumpers
Bonn1997 @ 2/27/2012 10:05 PM
Amare is playing badly because we don't have enough 3 point shooters. Or because we don't have a PG. Or because Melo takes too many shots. Or because Tyson takes up the pick and roll.
The explanations are ridiculous. Amare usually elevates about 3 inches off the ground and gets blocked. That's not going to change if we add more 3 point shooters or if we don't have Tyson. He's playing bad because he's an old man with bad knees, other injuries, and tons of wear and tear. It's simple.

Amar'e's numbers are down because his athleticism is gone. He's not the same player. That write-up was observant and thorough, but all it proved to me is that he's not the same guy he used to be. I don't know if it's the injury or not and it's not about numbers at all. He's not explosive anymore. His jumper is worse because guys don't fear his drive. He's not the same guy.

This is exactly it. His athleticism is gone. There's really nothing more to it.

i hate to say that i saw this coming because i don't want to be right here. it's just such a concern when an explosive player suffers a back injury. gotta wonder how the back will effect derrick rose as well. i'm still holding out hope for amare. maybe all he needs is more time.

Back and knees are concerns. I'm not sure who has a worse contract now - Amare or A-Rod.

Break down... Yep, this about right.
loweyecue @ 2/28/2012 12:16 AM
OK now that we have had the obligatory 25+ threads on the topic, what can be done about it?
Clearly we need to wait till season end unless we can bait Orlando into a package for DH. Let's assume they don't want that, so what can we do in the off season?
knicks1248 @ 2/28/2012 2:36 AM
So after looking at the clips from this season and the clips below from last season, the one thing that so easy to notice, most of his dunks came on drives in the paint, wide open lanes or only having to deal with a slower less athletic player..perfect pnr from felton...

we don't even run like that as a team, even with lin

I disagree about why his jumper is worse. Last year, his mid range jumper was lethal. This year, he is missing wide open shots, because the other team knows they turn into rebounds.

Now - while his athleticism may be gone, possibly forever, there is no reason his shooting touch can't come back.

Its gone either because he's rusty, or still hurt or adjusting to his extra weight & new posture.

I think its this last item.

And there is still hope that Amar'e can be exceptionally effective for his, even with reduced athleticism. Here, I'm thinking of Karl Malone- he was big, but I don't think he was ever effective because he could jump high or move especially fast. It was touch and feel and body control.

i dont buy that amare is struggling because tyson is here or we dont have 3 point shooters because those are both false statements. tyson being here should help amare. Also people keep saying he doesn't get enough touches but ive see lin hit him wide open for a mid range jumper which he hit last year even when contested and now he never hits that shot. I dont know if he is still dealing with his brother's death but we need to get amare back to form then we will be very dangerous

He's shooting more jumpers then ever..why cant anyone takes that into account..the videos dont lie..its like a whole new system..granteed he does seem a step slower..but all things considering..even melo has turned into to jump shooter

Sure but he should be hitting that shot. I mean its not a shots out of his range and he hits maybe 1 out of 10. Also he is wide open. i would love to be in his position and have open shots given to me

Amare made his living on centers not pfs. He is now 20lbs heavier and my friend let me tell you it doesn't matter if it is muscle or fat 20lbs will have an effect on explosion. Anytime you play basketball at a weight you are not accustom to you will see a drop in performance.

I wish Amare would drop the weight and get back to his last years weight. On top of it he has subconsciously started think about posture instead of just basketball which tells me he is more concerned about hurting himself than just going all out.

As Knicks fan I think it would be best for the Knicks to shop Amare and maybe sending him home to Orlando might not be a bad idea.

I loved watching Amar'e play last season- it makes seeing how he is this season that much worse. I'm still rooting for him to turn things round, but even if he can't, really all we need him to do to be of use is be able to hit mid range jumpers and that's not related to any athletic decline.

Watching Amar'e highlights is misleading- I realised that last year- watching the highlights before he signed with us, I thought he would be dunking everything and overpowering everyone. In actual fact he turned out to be a finesse player and jump shooter, with only the occasional dunk. If he is on the decline, I'd like to see him master some of LJ's spinning fadeaway moves in the offseason.
