So you don't think they are capable of playing together at all? Or you don't think Melo is a good player? Or don't think Lin is? Or think Stoudemire is a great player? Try explaining and see what comes out.

Clearly you're trying to be funny and are just a typical overreacting knicks fan. Being a melo hater doesn't prove anything. This is why people make fun of knicks fans. This isn't a video game.

I mean, when you ask me a question like that you're effectively spitting on my entire body of work on this forum.

Sorry i don't specifically pay attention to your posts. You can say what you want about Melo right now, and most of it may be true, but at the end of the day in order to win in the playoffs you need someone who can take over the game. Our roster without Melo gets to the playoffs and loses right now. With Melo you have a fighting chance when you get there.

I think that's a stupid excuse Melo jockers use to justify his wackness.

Melo murdered this team two times already in his first calendar year here.

First, he demanded, like a bitch, a trade that took something like 8 players off this team.

Then, he came back and destroyed the the team that went 8-1, with two of those 8 wins coming against Serious Top Dogs in the West.

Melo sucks as a basketball player.

He is struggling, but clearly you never watched Melo before this season.

He's not struggling, he's strangling. He's strangling this team to death.

I can partially agree with you, but you really think it's all on him? If that is the case, he hasn held Denver back every year he was there.

My position has always been that MDA and Melo cannot work together successfully.

Dolan has to choose one or the other.

I prefer MDA and the fun style of play he brings. When Melo was out, we got a chance to see what MDA can do with a team that buys into his system.

I think Melo is a bad fit in this offense only because of where he is being fit in the offense. He was very effective playing PF for Mike in the Olympics. Look at where he operates and is successful. Put him at PF in between Chandler and either Novak or Harrellson with Lin and Shumpert in the backcourt and see what a difference it makes. Stoudemire causes the issues because he struggles to play with Chandler and Melo in this offense. He is playing with 2 mid range and inside operators. It clogs the paint. You put Melo, Lin, and Chander on the floor together with 2 effective perimeter players and it makes a huge difference for everyone.

Even though STAT drives me nuts at times, I will take him over Melo any day. I just wish STAT would stop trying to dribble and that he could go out and shop for some "man hands". He drops so many passes it is nuts!
arkrud @ 3/8/2012 12:49 AM
Melo and Amare are one thing... The rest of the team is another thing.
They do not need each other... But they are together because Dolan like to sell expensive tickets to a bunch of fulls.
I think Amare will be able to fit in eventually still being defensive liability.
Both are overpraised.. this for sure... and for anybody who understand and likes bbal boring to watch.

They messed pretty well last year late in the season and in the playoffs before Amare hurt his back. Was it all Billups I doubt it. The pressure of playing in NY clearly gets to these guys. You need special kinda players to handle NY

HugeKnick4 @ 3/8/2012 1:00 AM
Billups was Big.
earthmansurfer @ 3/8/2012 4:25 AM
This team is going to go Nowhere with both of them. With one of them, Stat (since we can't trade him) we can probably go somewhere. I would love to get Gallo back and maybe some other talent in a 3 way trade. No, Gallo doesn't have Melo's talent but he can fit a team game quite well. We have a great center, we have a great shooter in Novak. We just need a few more very good team players and we can be quite good.

I wouldn't mind keeping Melo around to be our finisher for 10 minutes a game, but that isn't realistic.

I'm glad I have league pass, I don't have to stay up late to watch this crap and can watch the games in just over an hour now. Much less emotional and I have the memories of that 8-1 stretch when we were playing as a team.

I think Billups went a long way to mask chemistry problems last season, and we still only went .500 after the trade.

We were 2 games above .500 before the trade and finished the season 2 games above .500. I wouldn't say anyone really meshed since the trade, at any point.

I think team has good peaces but to make this specific peaces a TEAM will be very difficult task and will take a long time.
I doubt is up to this task and Dolan and NY fan base will have enough patience for this kind of process.

You're opinions are very shortsighted. You don't think Melo and MDA can ever fit, yet Melo was arguably the best player in the Olympics. Study how they used him then, and you will see what i am trying to say. Melo can be successful in this system. When it finally works i will be the first one to say told you so. Stoudemire on the other hand was successful as a center, where everyone else floats on the perimeter. On top of it, he is not the same player he was in Phx. I don't see that working with Chandler here.

Melo is a top transition finisher in the league, he can take advantage of this system if he does so properly.

franco12 @ 3/8/2012 8:25 AM
Wasn't Marbury awesome one Olympics? You can't talk about what players do there - that is so different from US basketball, its almost like another sport.

I don't understand how with a week of practice time, and a PG to run Mike's system, that they look as dysfunctional as ever?

I think I would trade Melo for Gasol and worry about how I play three bigs or make a follow up trade later.

Great talent, but its just not working, and I'm not sure it really can work.

This is a replay of the classic, "you need stars to win" conundrum.

Problem is, you need the "right" stars. And this is New York, which means it MUST work immediately, or else heads must roll.

The core problem with our beloved Knicks is patience. The post-Lin(sanity) roster is still learning and will require the month of March to sort it out. JR Smith just got through customs and Josh Harrellson needs to be reminded he is not Steve Novak. Amar'e needs to watch tapes of Gus Johnson. It was refreshing to watch him get tangled up with Dejuan Blair.

Carmelo needs to play like Paul Pierce. He has the same edge and skill set, just not the same mojo.

Iman Shumpert needs a jump shot and Landry Fields needs to keep going hard to the rack.

It takes time... and a good brawl does not hurt either.

knicks could use a good brawl. they have more pieces than they've had since 1999.

but the deal is, it takes a while to mesh when there are that many different pieces.

we have a bunch of guys who are used to being the #1 option - not used to getting theirs in the flow. it takes time to learn to get it in the flow. the offense will come.

my issue is that i don't think the defense will ever work with amar'e and melo on the floor together.

as for the kind of star new york needs, may i present tyson chandler and iman shumpert and jeremy lin - team first guys with more than one dimension to their game. melo's got too much marbury in him.

crzymdups - excellent points all. Boston would have been a great place for a brawl to start the second half.

I especially dig your proposed core of Lin, Shumpert and Chandler. You have floor leadership in Lin, defensive intensity in the Iman and The Captain is simply THE Captain. Now for the tough part...

if you HAD to choose between Carmelo and Stoudemire, who would it be?

We have no one at the three, and Jared Jeffries - as lovable as he is - is not the starters solution at the four.
