Knicks · Have The Knicks Outgrown Carmelo AND Stoudemire? (page 3)

crzymdups - excellent points all. Boston would have been a great place for a brawl to start the second half.

I especially dig your proposed core of Lin, Shumpert and Chandler. You have floor leadership in Lin, defensive intensity in the Iman and The Captain is simply THE Captain. Now for the tough part...

if you HAD to choose between Carmelo and Stoudemire, who would it be?

We have no one at the three, and Jared Jeffries - as lovable as he is - is not the starters solution at the four.

Melo just doesnt fit. I think he is talented but its obvious he likes a much slower offense and we are better on the run

I don't understand how with a week of practice time, and a PG to run Mike's system, that they look as dysfunctional as ever?

I think I would trade Melo for Gasol and worry about how I play three bigs or make a follow up trade later.

Great talent, but its just not working, and I'm not sure it really can work.

Trading Melo for Gasol would drastically improve the team. Gasol could get a lot of playing time at center.

And yeah Marbury was awesome in the Olympics. It is silly to cite Olympics performance.

I like the Gasol idea for Melo - but I might try to offer Amar'e for Gasol and then maybe get something else for Melo or tryt to work with Melo.

The problem with our stars is their flaws are frustrating.

As gifted a scorer as Carmelo is, and he IS trying, he does NOT have the lateral quickness to defend with authority. No WAY Paul Pierce should KILL us like that. I could care less how much he scores. How well did he defend?

As rugged and competitive as Amar'e is, he is a below average passer, which kills the motion Lin generates. His hands have become suspect, as he seems to struggle catching and maneuvering the ball in traffic. Is it the goggles?

These flaws can be corrected. But it requires honesty and dedication to the team cause.

Knicks turnovers are public enemy number one.

I miss Tyson Chandler
MarburyAnd1Crossover @ 3/8/2012 12:13 PM
We should fire the coaching staff, release everyone but Carmelo, and finish the season playing 1 on 5.

This situation would be most satisfying to Melo and his fans.

earthmansurfer @ 3/8/2012 12:14 PM
It is unrealistic to mention Melo and the Olympic team. There were some great defenders on that team that helped to hide his shortcomings. Also, that team was a boatload of talent. Melo needs to learn the team game more.

At least he hit some shots the other night. Would be nice for him to hit shots and be more in the flow of the team. IF that happens, we got something special. That will open up things for Lin to penetrate and create shots for everyone else.

GodSaveTheKnicks @ 3/8/2012 12:17 PM
We just got spanked by The Defending Champs and a team with the 2nd best record in the league. The Spurs have been kicking ass and taking names for a decade now. They have had the same coach. Everyone knows the plays. Everyone knows their roles.

Blowing out the Cavs doesn't mean we're ready to take on the Heat.
Losing to the Celtics, Mavs, and Spurs doesn't mean we should blow everything up.

Relax

Leadership is earned.

The San Antonio announcers had a field day describing the substandard defense played by the Knicks. The video of Amar'e sheepishly backing AWAY from Tony Parker on a drive, was as incrimnating as it gets.

"Stoudemire actually backed UP!"

If Tyson Chandler is THAT valuable then Amar'e AND Carmelo need to return their "Captain" parking spaces and privileges immediately.

Who is the Traffic Cop on this squad?

Knicks turnovers are public enemy number one.

Pierce got most of his points over Shump, Lin, and Smith. He barely hit a thing against Melo. Thats why they picked our D apart because we switch so much. Is Melo a locked down defender no(only at times) but he has played better defense this year and has been respectable. Although he still have those two or three brain fart moments. He is nowhere as bad as STAT.

i just dont feel melo fits this team. stat gets on my nerves but he fits the offense more than melo does. We are much better on the run and in transistion. Thats nothing against melo he just isn't that type of player who likes to move uptempo style
misterearl @ 3/8/2012 12:35 PM
Would Mike D'Antoni dare give Steve Novak extended minutes?

Imagine a hard nosed, 6'9-10" Charles Oakley/ Terry (not Pat) Cummings-type, old school defender (preferably one who can catch in traffic) playing next to Tyson Chandler.

That would change things dramatically.

Are you refering to Matador Amar'e of last year or this year who on D is like well a Matador but on O he turn into the bull and charges into the defender.

You can't do that because his defense is worst than Amar'e. He can only play against teams with stretch fours. He just gets beat off the dribble and have a problem with bangers.

Both acquisitions really hurt the team. The organization was in a great place when we'd cleared cap space and still had many draft picks. When Lebron and Wade turned us down, it was a critical point in the team's trajectory. At that point, there were no players left worth giving long-term max contracts to and the best approach would have been to continue gradual rebuilding.

JCrusher @ 3/8/2012 12:57 PM
the amare siging wasnt bad because we still won with that group and all we had to do was add a big man which we had much capspace for and then we all know whta happened next lol
