Chandler and JJ are a great defensive pairing - JJ going down killed us defensively and could have contributed alot to all this losing. MDA did a better job defensively this year.
I don't THINK he was ever better than 15th in any other year.
I'm not a huge MDA fan but considering what he was handed when he arrived and the turnover during his tenure, he did a more than respectable job. As a bonus, he's a classy guy and certainly not the worst coach around. I guess he could have let Melo score 40 a night and kept his job but he was at least trying to turn the Knicks into a good team and unfortunately getting Melo into the All-Star game more or less capped this group at .400 ball. Assuming this was Melo driven (which seems likely), I'm completely down with this:
...I hope Melo gets booed out of the Garden tonight...
I'd like add that if Dolan shows up tonight, I'll throw open the windows and boo loud enough for him to hear it in the Garden.
I can see letting MDA go in the off-season and heading a different direction but, yup, the only person who comes out of this not smelling like shit is MDA (and, yeah, Chandler, Lin, Fields, Stoudmire, and Walsh).
I can't imagine any level-headed coach wanting this job. Sure, there's some talent on the team but MDA is not taking any of the baggage with him.
How about them Nets!

Instead he goes to the media and praises everyone else but the 2 players that everyone knows is going to win this battle at the end. So hit the road jack.
LMAO... Hell yeah, man! Don't worry, MDA is in the rear view mirror now.
There will be some tears and whining from the MDA fan club, but now they have to suck up the reality now, too. It';s time that we all move on.
Reality is unknown for the moment but sure let us see what happens with this team. I just want the team to win as I am a knick fan like most of us here.
I want what's best for the the team as well, which is why I couldn't wait for MDA to be the hell outta here.
Woodson's good for tyhe short term- a new face, new voice, more defensive gameplans.
Let's see how it goes and then make the next move for the long term this summer.
I know that there are several here that liked MDA, but hey, we all just have to move on now. It's water under the bridge.
Thank You, Jesus!

The thing is, the guys supporting MDA were always the ones facing reality.
It's the Melo nuthuggers that will have a strong shock of reality soon enough. I can't imagine who you will blame when things are not going so well.
A lot of guys that aren't big fans of the coach aren't Melo fans or fans of that trade either. I have no issue with D'Antoni not being the Knick coach other than the timing. This was a move to be made in the offseason. I don't think Woodson is going to do for this team what JVG did when he replaced Nelson or Frank Vogel did for the Pacers last year.

That's what I don't get with all these MDA supporters. We're not losing Red Holzman or anything...The guy was called out and made fun of even in his Phoenix days before he coached a single game with the Knicks, Mike Antoni (No D)for a reason.

yeah, this move was "fuck you" by D'Antoni. and honestly, Dolan deserves it.
and with the Knicks 2012 lottery pick, Houston selects....

Move out... Yep it is the time.
“Dolan is blaming the coach,” said a source with knowledge of the Knicks’ locker-room dynamics. “Tyson [Chandler], Baron [Davis], A’mare [Stoudemire] – guys who came to play for Mike – or that system – are pissed. Lin isn’t happy either.”

And, unfortunately, that's the core of the team. What are they going to do? Turn over the team again? Great.
I like Woodson but I'd be surprised if he's able to get much more out of this group...and keep Melo happy.

They just don't like the guy.
D'Antoni is 122-167 in NY. The argument I frequently read by his supporters is that it doesn't matter what he has done in NY because he went two Western Conference finals. I don't know what you are talking about in regards to 2005. The timing of this move is wrong but to act like moving on from this coach was a horrible mistake is a bit off in my opinion.

Cmon man, really? How many different players and lineups did the Knicks go through during that time? That argument is pretty misleading.
I am not a big MDA fan, but I would've liked to see him finish out the year because I have no faith in Isia... I mean Woodson. Dolan should allow a special number of fans one free punch to his stupid looking face for the BS he has put Knicks fans through.
All I know is that the bull's eye that used to be on Ewing's back year in and year out can now be covered twice over by the one that's now on Melo's back. He's getting booed tonight, guaranteed.

Apparently he had the year and chose to leave. I don't like the timing of this either. My response was to Marbs who often brings up D'Antoni's Western Conference finals when defending him.

If you are reviewing his resume, he had success in Phoenix and went to the western finals. Then you will also review his resume with the Knicks and you can see his flaws. That argument I have no issues with. But if you compare rosters that's another argument you might lose on :).
It's not about MDA's Time in PHX. That is used to at least make it clear that you can't just start counting time from his time in NY and say he's not any good. They brought him in cuz he was a good coach and had proven that with his work before NY.
Here in NY MDA was trying to get the team to play a TEAM oriented style of BB. The lack of D was more a function of the type of players we had.
If you bring in defensive players you're gonna get some better defense. MDA made the Shump pick and he was the one calling for Jared to be brought back. MDA is not averse to defense the way it's often reported. If your 2 stars are horrid defenders and sometime rebounders you'll have problems. I thought the team was making small progress and that if Jared came back that could give the team the defensive boost they've been missing. I hope they will still play hard on D, despite losing MDA, whom a lot of the players liked.

Don't waste your time with these guys. Their 15 minutes will be up soon.
I am happy he was able to leave on his own terms rather than getting dumped by dole-ass later.
Unless we get PJax we are toast.
Now all the players on the team that really matter are pissed! Phuck Mel and Dolan! Why cant this franchise never stick to what is working? What do they have against it??? They put MDA in a no win situation. No wonder coaches quit when they come here....smh!!!!!
this organization and team has me feeling jaded and embarrassed. The timing of the Melo articles and his departure are awfully weird. I mean, the day AFTER these articles "leak", MDA is out. I'm picturing MDA sighing out of relief and happy to be over with the this shyt.
I guess I'm rooting for conspiracy theories the rest of the way. Keep the circus rolling.

Mike Woodson is not the answer either. There is no answer as long as Dolan is the owner.
Woodson will probably be here through next season, then it will be time for the next coach!
