Papabear Says
I'm getting a little sick and tired of the Melo Haters knocking every thing this man is doing. If we want a championship we will need Melo no matter how you feel. I do believe that with some it's not about winning a championship because if you had a choice of Melo being gone and not having a chance of a Championship you would just rather loose. Listen I like Lins game but if he makes Melo unhappy you better believe Lin will sit. And the crap about him ignoring Melo on the court is totally wrong. Cut the man some slack. If Melo had to take a piss some of you would find something to complain about that. The Chemistry with the team is good. Let it alone
I have the opposite questions: Why is it that some people are A) so invested in defending him and are B) so confused by criticism of him? We gave up half our team for him and future draft picks. And his performance and the team's performance in games with him playing have been a nightmare.
The point is, Knicks don't need Melo to win games. that's the bottom line. That is all we're saying. Melo can have some off-day all he wants and Knicks will still win games. Screaming A. Smith thinks Melo is winning games for Knicks and doesn't bother crediting other Knicks players for their efforts. He's got his tongue so far up Melo's ass.
That's right -- the 30% field goal average tonight -- think about it like it's baseball. A .300 hitter in baseball is considered good, right? So Melo is great at 30%, don't criticize him.

Yeah, they can win some games without Melo. If they want to contend for a championship, though, Melo and Amare will have to play like max contract players.

That would mean he's having a Ted Williams like season
You know who I want for Carmelo Anthony? Trevor Ariza. Bring Ariza to the Knicks and send Melo to the Hornets. Ariza would fit perfectly with the Knicks. He's a great shooter/defender and a champion.
If Lin makes Melo "Unhappy" he should sit"
Whats next, "if melo does not like blue colored cocktail tooth picks on the buffet, they should remove them at once!"
Or.....
"Keep Mimes away from MSG on game days! They frustrate MElO and we want to keep him happy!"
What are we going to: "Melo prefers both black coaches and Pt guards". He is happier this way!
Is this where we are going?

YUP! My mantra now is when is Melo going to be the REASON we win games. We won without him and now despite him! Dude needed to step up after MDA left cuz he knew that if he didn't hustle the fans would turn on him. Still this team would be so much better if Melo was actually consistently playing well on both ends. He's at least trying now, which is great, but we wouldn't be fighting for our playoff lives if he had bothered to play hard and not sulk from the start.
If you look at the game tonight it was pretty much the same guys that helped the team win during Linsanity. The role players along with Tyson, Shump, Lin, Novak and Jared. If this team stays healthy and keeps playing great D. they can survive Melo not playing at All Star level, much like they did when he was out.
I wish we could quash this stuff and move on. If Melo costs us a game or has an all around poor performance, call him on it, by all means. This is a new regime, we're winning (for now) and things are going well. No need to relitigate what happened under D'Antoni, its what Melo has done for the team lately.
Lately his offense hasn't been there but the rest of his game has been solid for the most part. Melo is sharing the rock, playing D and playing hard. If you're going to point out what he is doing wrong there is no reason why you can't point out what he's doing right. At least it will show that you are factoring everything into your evaluation of Melo's performance and not just looking for another excuse to point out how much you don't like his being on the Knicks.
The only thing Melo has managed to do since he's been here was get the coach fired. Other than that, he hasn't been worth there price we paid for him.
I don't think this is Melo's team. He is the best player but I don't think he is the leader or the most respected guy on the team. I also don't think he knew D'Antoni's view on their relationship and I don't think he thought the coach was going to resign. In regards to Lin it was first reported that Melo was the guy that went to D'Antoni and ask that Lin play. D'Antoni refuted that but Melo also has said that Lin is his favorite teammate. I also don't think Melo has Dolan's ear. I think D'Antoni had a very nice situation with Walsh and when that ended things got a lot tougher. Melo may have been the flavor of the month in regards to D'Antoni's problems but he had problems with other players and had not won in NY during his four years. He knew that he was gone after this year and what he was trying to do wasn't working. He resigned and is getting paid for the remainder of his contract.

Neither was the coach.

MDA had no support from the owner, neither did Walsh even after he cleaned up the mess that Dolan let Isaiah Thomas put us in. He was in a lose lose situation.

Maybe but his price tag was pocket change compared to Carmelo's.

121-167 for 5 mil a year? 42-40 with last years roster certainly wasn't overachieving. 18-24 with the roster he had this year?

If you really believe that Dolan didn't give him a fair shot then it was a waste of time and money to hire such an expensive and high profile coach. So let's move on and hope that our new coach gets a fair chance to succeed. He's doing a great job so far and we should focus on that and not on someone who isn't here anymore. That's what I plan on doing.

Your right and I will, but I'm afraid as soon as I fall in love with what Knicks doing, the rug is going to be pulled from under me, AGAIN! And for the record, I doubt seriously that Woody going to be here even if he's winning. Not high profile enough.

Its definitely possible, after all its Jimmy Dolan we're talking about. I hope if Woody makes some waves in the playoffs that the positive press and the increased revenue will change his mind. You're right, he could go after another high profile coach. I hope he is high profile enough to have a "Dolan keep your chubby little fingers out of my business clause."
