Knicks · DAMN MDA woodson is making you look bad (page 1)

We shot 35% for the game and won, the other night we shot 37% and won. we never ever won a game shooting that poorly under MDA. IF we didn't shoot above 50% for sure, it was a loss.

Melo said Woodson doesn't even talk about offense, It's all defense, when you can get melo and Amare to buy into defense, your doing something no one else has..this guy has NOVAK playing defense..are you kidding me..NOVAK.

This is silly. We played very well as a team earlier this season. It was one or two individuals who weren't making enough effort in the coach's system. Now they buy into this coach's system and we win. That's great and I'm happy to see that we're winning, but two things: 1) Let's sustain it - we've had multiple impressive winning streaks this season and we're only a .500 team right now. 2) This is not a knock on MDA's system - it's proven to be a winning system. You can't take it out on the coach when your star player pulls a Marbury.

I am pretty sure someone is going to post that it is the same defense but Melo is now trying. Woodson is doing a great job. Defense and effort translates to wins. Woodson gets it and he took over a great group of guys that get along and want to win.

You can take it out of the coach if the stars buy into the next coach, play hard for them and play SIK defense.

Different systems. Stars tried in one and not the other. We had the talent to be a perennial high 50s to 60 win team like Phoenix was, but we'll never know because Carmelo wasn't interested. As far as Woodson, I'm impressed; but let's sustain it for a full season and into the playoffs. The 7 game winning streak was impressive, too, and that came crumbling down quickly.

Well "not interested"? Not sure I would put it that way but definitely did not play well. Stat? Played awful for MDA this year and did not give 2 sh1ts about defense or rebounding.

I like what Woodson is doing too and I am not sold yet but am cautiously optimistic.

MDA was a grand total of 121 w's and 167 L's. You make it sound like Melo didnt try at all in any of the games he played in which is not true. The problem with MDA, is he refused to make any adjustments, his in game coaching was horrific, he was way too passive and his priorities were all wrong. Woodson's emphasis on defense, rebounding, ball pressure and accountability top the list of his game plan while floor spacing on the offensive end topped MDA's list.

Like Frank Vogel, Woodson is a new voice and is motivating the players to play the right way/ or the way they need to play in order to win ball games. Thats the bottom line. So Woodson gets the credit for doing with this unit what MDA couldn't. so far so good. For the sake of the Knicks, I hope it conitnues.

What is the point of quoting the W-L record of MDA's entire tenure here? No coach could've won with those teams. He walked into a disaster. Between him and Walsh, it was turned around.

As for the criticisms, way too extreme. I did have some issues like giving too many minutes to certain players, but overall, MDA is still a very good coach. We've had a lot of very good coaches this decade and we always blame the coach. I hope Woodson works out.

I disagree about D'Antoni. Could another coach that has an NBA job do a worse job than he did in his second year? After the summer of 2010 did the team that the cap space created over achieve? Can you recall a time in the last two years when the roster was good to very good that his team played above expectations or that he out coached a peer? In my opinion he was exposed while here as a roster specific coach that relies on his point guard to create, run and be the focal point of his offense. His rigid commitment to his style winning over adjusting to the players on his team caused him to fail.

MDa is a good system coach who with the right players can have some success in this league. It didn't work out for him so we moved on. I love that Woodson is the polor-opposite from MDA in terms of he's not afraid to get into a players a$#. Love his message. Love that he stays ontop of players (keeping them motivated and game plan reminders) during practice, warmups, games, etc. Love his message of accountability and defense. Love that he is not afraid to yank a player regardless of time who is stinking it up (Feilds, Shump, JR,). love that we are winning games on the defensive end, even when we are shooting 35% and connecting on less than 5 3's. Like I said, so far so good. Hope we can maintain the same commitment and energy.

The Mike Dantoni era of New York basketball was no different than the Isiah Thomas brand.

It was a symbol of weakness, ignorance, and a failure to persevere.

Good luck coach Woodson. I'm glad you've taken over.

Berman tweet from Melo on Michael Kay:

Marc Berman
Also In New York Knicks
Carmelo Anthony was grilled by Michael Kay on ESPN 1050 about Mike D'Antoni and he gave some nuggets. On Woodson, Melo said, "The thing he does is hold guys accountable.’’ Did D'Antoni? "That’s not him. Nobody expected him. Not his personality He did it his way.’’ Can you have ever succeeded under D'Antoni. "Who knows. We will never know. I had to adjust.’’

I think he admitted that he needed a coach that is comfortable being an authority figure. For all of the talk that nba players are professionals and well paid and should play and act like professionals, some guys need more from a coach than a chat where the coach says we need you to be you.
