I saw it as a rebuilding phase in which, at times, the Knicks overachieved. It didn't end well but it had far more bright spots than previous eras.

Good luck coach Woodson. I'm glad you've taken over.
This is pretty silly.
disagree..he is accurate...MDA era was Futile..the numbers don't lie.
In the end Woody is fitting with the team very well and so this is great for the team and Knicks fans. My only point is that coaches get fired and or quit all the time and it doesn't mean that they aren't good coaches. Woody himself was looking for work and good for him he's found a good fit here in NY. Just don't kick dirt on MDA as if he's some scrub when that isn't really true. I look forward to seeing this team succeed and hopefully reach it's potential. Hopefully Woodson can secure the job permanently.
Short term memories are hard to argue with.
if you love this current team thank MDA for either drawing these players here or pumping the value up of the guys who left.
Amare, Chandler, Baron Davis and Jarred Jefferies all specifically quoted MDA as a factor in them signing here.
Seems to me only one player quit on MDA's system, and when that player is your most important and backed by ownership and your not its a losing battle.
As for coaches? Seems to me MDA and his system got some pretty small and weak teams to the conference finals. Whats Woodson's record as a coach?

I respect your opinion but watching with my eyes my opinion is D'Antoni was not a good coach. Even in his Suns era lots of basketball guys were skeptical of his skills as a coach. his short tenure at Nuggets was horrendous. Lets not forget. I'm fine with myself kicking dirt on him. I've play'd organized Ball and watched it for 2 decades now and he fumbled basic basketball moves as a coach.
I guess we both won't know if he was good or bad until his next coaching job if he gets the opportunity.

Only thing silly is going to bat for a mediocre, stubborn, inflexible in his ways coach.

Stat? Pass?
I don't agree that anybody quit. If one did, why not say Stat? Did you see his defense and boxing out after Woodson took over? I did not think he had it in him - thought he just did not know better!
What has Melo done in the playoffs as a Knick?

What weak team did MDA take to the conference finals? He always had NASH in all those runs. All he needed was guys who could hit open shots because NASH was that good.
Woodson took on a terrible Hawks Rebuilding project and improved year after year. Great Coaching. We forget he almost got the young, flawed and inexperienced Hawks to beat Celtics in that memorable series.

For a team that didn't sniff the playoffs I would say MDA era brought some credibility to the Knicks. Isiah pretty much discredited the organization from top to bottom. To say it was futile in comparison to Isiah era would be ignorance on your part.
Nah we were still laughed at and add to that He had much better and polished players then Isiaih. Last year's team still underachieved during the season even before Melo trade.
7 Carmelo Anthony
20 Mike Bibby
6 Tyson Chandler
85 Baron Davis
23 Toney Douglas
2 Landry Fields
55 Josh Harrellson
9 Jared Jeffries
44 Jerome Jordan
17 Jeremy Lin
16 Steve Novak
21 Iman Shumpert
8 J.R. Smith
1 Amar'e Stoudemire
5 Bill Walker
How do you play sub 500 ball with this roster?
Isiaih's Roster
32 Renaldo Balkman
26 Kelvin Cato
25 Mardy Collins
11 Jamal Crawford
34 Eddy Curry
1 Steve Francis
7 Channing Frye
13 Jerome James
20 Jared Jeffries
42 David Lee
3 Stephon Marbury
5 Randolph Morris
23 Quentin Richardson
4 Nate Robinson
31 Malik Rose
How do you play above 500 ball with this roster?
To be fair ISiah made his own bed. I do agree that MDA underachieved but he still managed a playoff appearance. MDA constantly dealt with a ever changing roster he gave up years for cap. That has to be taken into consideration too.

What did the Knicks do years prior to Melo?

Also what else is a player gonna say when they sign with a team. Of course they would say they came cause of D'Antoni. Those are just sound bites.
Rebuild, maybe?
So, again. What has Melo done in playoffs as a Knick?

The year that Stat was out - MDA did a good coaching job with no bigs.
Having said that, Nash can make anyone look good. He was unstoppable for a few years. Could not miss a shot, never gave up the dribble and murdered everyone with the PnR.

Exactly. Without STAT even that team was still talented. A motivated and slimmer Diaw was good talent.
Im not sure why everyone is oppose to playing miami or chicago in the 1st rnd...we have like a 5-1 record against that franchise in the playoffs Although its a different roster that somehow never seems to matter when your heart a RIDICULOUS 17-4 record against any franchise..meaning theres a certain dominace one franchise can't have ovef another despite and entire different rost
er
were in a playoff mode already..why wait a rnd or two were injuries like last yr can kill a team..were deep and we are getting better every wk..let me at em.
MozelGovCocktail wrote:What has Melo done in the playoffs as a Knick?
42 points, 17 rebouncs, 6 assists in Game 2 against Boston(full strength) without the services of Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups, playing with the likes of Anthony Carter, Toney Douglas, Shawne Williams, Bill Walker, Ronny Turiaf, and Jared Jeffries. I don't mention Landry Fields (no show).
Woodson has only had one stint..here are the numbers
ATL 2004–05 82 13 69 .159 5th in Southeast — — — — Missed Playoffs
ATL 2005–06 82 26 56 .317 5th in Southeast — — — — Missed Playoffs
ATL 2006–07 82 30 52 .366 5th in Southeast — — — — Missed Playoffs
ATL 2007–08 82 37 45 .451 3rd in Southeast 7 3 4 .429 Lost in First Round
ATL 2008–09 82 47 35 .580 2nd in Southeast 11 4 7 .364 Lost in Conf. Semifinals
ATL 2009–10 82 53 29 .646 2nd in Southeast 11 4 7 .364 Lost in Conf. Semifinals
His total W-L numbers are skewed because he took on a terrible roster in 2004..no shame in that.

I wouldn't mind either honestly..No team scares me...only thing I would say is Lin needs to probably ease into that intensity of the playoffs. Only position that scares me. I trust him but think he needs to see a round of a lesser talented team to prepare for Heat especially.
