LOL, Mike Woodson really didn't live up to the talent he had with Mike bibby, Joe Johnson and Josh Smith. Really let those 50 win Hawks down.
All I know is we really need a coach to come in here and run his system so we can pit our pg against our sf, our sf against our pf and our pf against our center. That's the true mark of a coach, making everybody look like the can't play unless somebody else is off the team!!!
It was Definitely Kar-melo though, definitely.

42 points, 17 rebouncs, 6 assists in Game 2 without the services of Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups, playing with the likes of Anthony Carter, Toney Douglas, Shawne Williams, Bill Walker, Ronny Turiaf, and Jared Jeffries. I don't mention Landry Fields (no show).
Same coach that did a shitty job first half of the season, needed a miracle to save his job, then quit right in the middle when he couldn't figure out how to run anything besides a Pick and Roll.
Ok, so if he goes off in a game this year. It'll be coach Lin?

Coach Billups
Look, MDA was a nice guy. Smart basketball guy. Good coach. BUT, he was completely rigid and inflexible in his system. It's nice that he had the team as 10th or 11th in the league in defensive efficiency - but it speaks VOLUMES that Woodson has shot them up the rankings to #5 in the league IN NINE GAMES. They are #1 in the league defensively by far since Woodson took over.
MDA lost Melo and in the way he handled Melo, I believe he lost the rest of the team. Or the team was just torn between supporting Melo and supporting MDA - again, MOST of the guys seemed to LIKE him. But sometimes liking your leader doesn't mean your leader is effective.
You could see Amar'e and Tyson just look so much less stressed after MDA left. It was like a weight had been lifted. Shumpert started playing better. etc.
It could be Woodson's system was just a better fit for this team and the style they should play. I've made the argument that the Pace is a big factor, too. But I think the Melo/MDA war was real and it had to be one or the other.
Same thing happened with JVG and Ernie Grunfeld at the end of the 1999 season. Dave Checketts fired Grunfeld with 3 games left in the season, I believe. Knicks won all 3 remaining games and made a run the Finals. That kind of turmoil can be toxic to a team and distract from the goals the group has.
This is a good group of guys. My favorite Knicks team since the Spree/Camby/LJ era. I'm glad to see the turmoil is over and they have a chance to play up to their potential.
How did Melo have this beautiful game you cite, if he didnt know how to use Melo?
Get real.

Did you watch that game? That was not D'Antoni Ball on offense. That was Melo going okay my boys are injured I have to go off. Add to that, they still lost. smh.
Also I have to admit those two games D'Antoni actually coached decent games. Used his timeouts appropriately, subbed correctly. Remember watchign the game and going who is this guy. but in the end he still got out coached with X and Os by Doc Rivers, a superior coach who knows how to call plays. Remember the last play of game...a Melo chuck from 30 ft.

Please stop. You've lost the argument once you refused the acknowledge that Carmelo has accomplished much more in his short stint as a Knick then D'Antoni has done in 4 years. The team post-trade really didn't have an identity or practice time, so really it was let Billups run the same plays he runs with Melo in Denver. First half of this season was inexcusable. How do you not run post plays for Melo or bend your system to your star player is retarded, especially if you're going to start Toney Douglas. Your defending him, as if he was the reason that Melo scored 42/17/6. Any NBA player or unbiased person would say that's more on the greatness of the player, not the gimmickry of a glorified offensive coordinator.
Ok, so let me get this straight.
Melo has never won a playoff game in a Knick uniform. That's somehow D'Antoni's fault when he gave him the ball with no restriction. Uh ok.
Melo took a hundred shots in 3 games early in first half of the year. His out of shape body couldn't handle the load. mda's fault too. He should have taken 1000 back to basket post isos
Interesting logic.
I don't have to defend MDA. He will get another multimillion dollar coaching contract on his own.

Let me ask you this. How many playoffs before Carmelo has D'Antoni made it to as coach of the Knicks in a weak Eastern Conference?

He probably will - there are many stupid Owners out there not named Dolan. However, the more Woody wins the worse MDA looks.
Guys need to calm down. All this team has done is won some regular season games. They haven't really accomplished jack yet. Woody still has a ton of work to do as does Melo. This recent good play doesn't make up for all the poor play up to this point. Nothing has been secured yet!!! Let's take it easy on the victory laps for Woodson.

What Has Woodson Done For You Lately?

The hell it doesn't. Better to have won 8 of 9 than to have lost seven in a row.
nixluva wrote:Nothing has been secured yet
Woodson has secured the respect of the entire roster.
nixluva wrote:Let's take it easy on the victory laps for Woodson.
I takes a victory lap after each and every win. The way it has been going lately, it is getting tiring.

MDA goes 8-1 and it's like we won a ring and woody goes 8-1 losing JJ and now Stat (and our D has still looked better than ever) and "Woody has done nothing"
Therein lies the lack of credibility - SMFH

I was gonna say same thing but didn't feel like searching through previous threads where Nixluva was taking "victory laps" during our streaks as we all where.
I would like what's best for Woody and his family. I want what's best for the Knicks.
It's been a year in which guys have made the most of their opportunities around here. that's the trend I'd like to see continue. I have no interest in the nanny-nanny-noo-noo's to MDA. It's childish and revealing. I'm sure I can't stop others, though.

Don't you guys know, we won the Championship after we beat the Mavericks on National TV during Linsanity!

Why would reflecting on the year and the transition be childish. It's a Discussion Forum for a reason. Would someone on Laker board comparing Mike Brown's Performance & coaching style to Phil jackson's be considered childish?
LOL @ nanny-nanny-noo-noo....I'm adding that to my everyday vocabulary.

Exactly.
And the answer is...
