Without Amar'e the Knicks are not back. His back was never back and that could be the fact that held him back.
Kvetching over his injury is so retro-negative. His signing was a franchise changing moment the franchise decided the moment it let David Lee walk. We move forward.
Jeremy Lin is missed. Baron Davis is relying too much on old school trickeration and must be more steady with the rock.
Shumpert must continue to make clutch shots, without the offensive fouls of course. Keep your off arm closer to your torso young man.
Fields must focus on rebounding. Stay aggressive my friend.
Carmelo needs rest but he will not rest. He will play at 75 per cent at the four which is risky. For better or worse.
We miss Jared Jeffries. Josh Harrellson, show us whachoo workin' with. This is your moment.
Tyson Chandler, you are indispensable.
JR Smith may be streaky, but his defensive intensity is a welcome addition. Thank you Mike Woodson, for holding JR accountable.
Get Steve Novak the damn ball.
Any other contributions are a bonus, including the earthly remains of Mike Bibby or Toney Douglas.
The Linsanity lineup can win in April, I would just say it's got a lower ceiling than the Bulls or the Heat. Add Melo to the mix, well, then you have a team constructed similarly to the Mavs... if the breaks fall the right way things could work out quite nicely
The Mavs??
The Mavs have Dirk. Melo could not even hold Dirk's underwears.
Whatever lineup is out there just has to keep playing D. Chandler is our most important player including Melo and Amar'e. As long as he stays healthy and our D keeps up the intensity we can compete with any team. It'll be key if we can somehoe grab the Atlantic and not have to deal with Miami or Chicago in the first round. We can beat any other team in a 7 game series.
enjoy the ride... Melo is 27 and according to basketball reference has a 68 percent shot of making the Hall of Fame. If he produces somewhere between where he has IN A LOCK OUT SEASON and his career averages for the remainder of his career, he is going to the Hall of Fame. This is the same crap people said about Dirk before he won a chip
Lawd Ha' Mercy Jesus!

Not another anti-Carmelo comment. What a total and complete surprise. Hilarious.
With the errant play of Baron Davis, if Jeremy Lin's knee does not cooperate, look for Mike Woodson to cameo Shumpert and JR Smith in the backcourt. At 6'6 JR can defend they way Woodson wants and we KNOW Shump has it on lock.
Now, that's entertainment.
Thank You SC

It was the sort of game in which Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points, which sounds exciting and put-the-team-on-his-back-ish, but he was 8-for-20 from the field and scored many of his points from the line, where he was 12-for-12. He was hacked a lot, and the Knicks hacked a lot, and both teams turned the ball over like crazy...
Anthony did step up, though, in a game in which the Knicks were missing both Jeremy Lin (who will be back Wednesday) and Amar'e Stoudemire (who won't; more on this later today). Anthony also tweaked his groin and was limping by the end of the game, which is just great.
- Will Leitch
Carmelo went to the bench grimacing and refused to sit. He know the groin would not cooperate. He played anyway.
There's a lot of doom and gloom around the Knicks this morning, because of Stoudemire's injury, but don't underestimate this win. It puts the Knicks back at .500 for the ninth time this year, raises their record to 8-1 under coach Mike Woodson...
This has been a year of more Knicks drama than most teams could handle. We have watched the Clippers turn against Vinny, Golden State jettisoned Monta, the Heat were destroyed by the Thunder and Kobe is not happy. Somehow, rather than implode, this team has bonded and keeps fighting back. They may win ugly, but they win. Last night was a prime example. Imagine learning that Amar'e is done and going out and winning anyway, without Lin... and with Carmelo playing on one leg.
Enjoy The Ride, Indeed

Great post Misterearl.
As much as everyone wants to believe otherwise, this team has got something that I am starting to really enjoy. CHEMISTRY!
Amare playing at all star levels was a thing of beauty. He was back to his legendary self.
We have seen so many looks to this team its hard to say what can happen.
I think when you lose a guy that was playing at a top 5 level at his position for the last few weeks its going to hurt.
Are we deep enough to over take Boston and Philly?
Do we have the talent and with that, give a few guys the room to step up?
ON paper we should.
We need YouTube Melo to be that man!
We won the game on defense last nite. Shump was awesome!

Shump was indeed. Blanked Monta pretty much. The strip of Brandon in the 4th was sublime.

there were peaks and valleys. he must learn control! when he makes a decision of where to go with a ball that typically results in an offenive foul. more good than bad but it warrants being mentioned
So here's where we're at:
Melo- Groin, could miss games
Amar'e- back, probably done for the season
JJ- Knee, out 2 weeks
Lin- Knee, could be ongoing issue
BD- back, hamstring- limited to 20mins a game
Tyson- sore wrist, but playing well despite it
Bill Walker- out til end of April
Bibby- age- contributes very little indeed
TD- nothing to contribute
So really, healthy players-wise that just leaves us:
Shump (may have ongoing knee tendonitis issues)
Jorts
Novak
JR Smith
Jerome Jordan
Fields
Is that really enough to get things done vs the Celtics, Magic, Heat etc etc? I'd love to be proved wrong, but Amar'es injury has demoralised me, and what faith I had left has taken a hit by Melo's injury and Lin's- how can you have Linsanity without a healthy Lin? Really frustrating timing and injuries, we'll be luck to make the playoffs, and even if we do it could just be a first round sweep. Damn you basketball gods, and also Stern for this ridiculous schedule!
The Linsanity lineup can win in April if Jared Jeffries is healthy. Jared Jeffries was a major factor during the Linsanity run.

I know you are the ultimate Melo hater, but right now the only difference between Dirk and Melo are the 2 finals appearances and 1 championship. When Dirk was Melo's age, he had yet to accomplish either. Both team are similiar given the cores of each team.
Dirk, Kidd, Chandler, Marion, Terry is a reasonable core comparison for Melo, Lin, Chandler, Shump, and Smith/Novak off the bench.
Dirk slightly over Melo
Lin over Kidd
Chandler=Chandler
Marion slightly over Shump right now
Terry slightly over Smith/Novak
Dallas is better, but it's close as far as comparison's go.
Well Done

A Friendly Addendum
Just Sayin'
Melo - Groin, could will miss games
Amar'e - back, probably done for the season
JJ - Knee, out 2 weeks, one more false step away from being done for the season
Lin - Knee, could be ongoing issue
BD - back, hamstring- limited to 20mins a game
Tyson - sore wrist, but playing well despite it
Bill Walker- out til end of April
Bibby - age- contributes very little indeed
TD - nothing to contribute
So really, healthy players-wise that just leaves us:
(by position)
1. Shump (may have ongoing knee tendonitis issues)
2. JR Smith, streaky like Starks and nearly as much fun to watch
3. Fields - rebounding
4. Novak - scoring
5. Jorts, opportunity knocks, could be a formidable bodyguard for Chandler on the glass
Jerome Jordan - see TD
Hey, it could happen.

Exactly right.
Not to ruin your party but at 27, Dirk was a more efficient scorer and rebounder than Melo, plus I don’t remember anybody ever questioning his leadership, Dirk was soft but always committed.

There are things you can find better in both players, but i think they are in the same category in general.

IQ Lin > Kidd
BB IQ Kidd > Lin

Maturity Kidd > Lin

Wrong my friend, in his prime Dirk was a MVP candidate almost every year and a MVP winner in 2007, while a very good all-star, I don’t think Carmelo has ever being a true MVP candidate in the NBA. May be someday MAY BE.

Dirk was considered soft. People thought he didn't rebound enough. They said stuff like "WHY'S A SEVEN FOOTER HANGING OUT ON THE PERIMTER?!?!" Then he won a championship and suddenly everyone remembers his career differently, as well as revises their personal history with watching him. Try reading op/ed pieces on Dirk after the Golden State collapse. Obviously their games are different. But both are extremely talented perennial All Stars who when they are on are among the best players in the world. Heck, Dirk even showed up this year out of shape.
