My disappointment with Baron is not his speed, I figured he will be slower with his injuries and age, but the fact that it seems he does not know how to manage a game. It really is perplexing when Tyson and Novak were not getting any touches for a good part of the game.

That's not entirely true..Baron has had his physical struggles the last few games but he has managed parts of the game very well in the past ...There were games Clyde lauded him for it and also said he isn't looking for his own shot enough..Novak isn't a secret anymore, he can't get open on his own, can't blame Baron for that..

The only problem is that we wont have enough money for nash since we are using the mid level on lin and i doubt nash will take less

He's got back issues AND hamstring issues- exactly how fast would any nba player be with both of those? BD was still shaking off the rust, but the hamstring injury is really going to hamper him, thats why he' looking so bad the past few games. At full health would he an allstar again? Of course not, but he's a good back up PG, and a good stand in starter- he's been eratic with us this season, but thats what happens when you've missed a year, don't have your conditioning where it needs to be as a result, have no practice time and instead so many games back to back. I'd like to see BD back with us next season.

nykbocker - It is a crime that Steve Novak had one shot attempt. We desperately need a third double digit scorer. Tyson Chandler should average 15 a game, minimally.

The ball movement actually picked up the moment Baron gave it up.

His relentless pounding in one spot is maddening.

That was problem on Chandler and Novak not getting ball more touches
solely due to sore BD and Knicks had NO PG Play

You cant beat anyone without a PG to lead the way Knicks play now

Melo and Shumpert have been on fire but we dont have any other offensive players right now so hopefully lin can come back next week

Why, Baron Davis, Why? You're not that old yet...what the h....

Only in the NBA where being in your 30's is considered OLD.

Let's not get ridiculous, Tyson's has a career 8ppg and his best season is only 11.8ppg, and that was playing next to a pre-injury CP3.

Solace @ 3/31/2012 5:14 PM
There was no ball movement for a lot of the game. JR Smith, also, took some really bad shots. I hate to say it, but is Toney Douglas available to play? We need some minutes at PG while Lin is out and Baron did not cut it last night.

Tyson Chandler is fine; he wasn't getting the ball. The reasons we lost last night were not getting the ball to certain players - almost to the point where I wondered if they were being frozen out for some reason, bad man-to-man defense on Smith, terrible defense at PG. We are also seriously missing Jared Jeffries right now.

ChuckBuck @ 3/31/2012 6:25 PM
Well if Baron is Done, we're essentially toast. Lin's done for the year.

Not The Board... The Answer Man Said So

sealy wrote:Man this board is so quick to jump to the conclusion that guys are done.

The "jump to conclusion" is based on watching Davis over the past two weeks, and watching him in person. He is so dreadfully slow bringing the ball upcourt that the offense accelerates once he gives it up.

That is not what one wants from a lead guard. More than anything, Davis must set the tempo.

Whether it is his tender hamstring, or the fear of Mike Woodson's wrath after a way too-casual turnover, Davis is only a few clicks better than Toney Douglas, and Toney Douglas is a ball of confusion.

I cringe at the ridiculousness of this statement. You sure you're the "answer man"? I've also watched TD pretty closely in person and on the tube over the past 2 years and I've come to my own simple conclusion that he isn't a smart basketball player and that's why he doesn't play. Have you seen him attempt to run a PnR or even a basic offense? Of course you have, so you saying Baron is only slightly better is pretty unusual to me.

Agreed that Baron's decision making has been poor, but, as I said in my original response and what you seem to be overlooking (as many did w/ Amar'e earlier this season and what I was referencing), he's not 100% healthy (back, thigh, calf, etc...), still doesn't have his legs under him and has been thrust into heavy minutes, which obviously hasn't helped him. But even with all of this, he is still better than TD.

I hope Baron can get it together because, while I agree he's not gonna be the 07' Baron, he will be more than serviceable as the PG. TD should stick playing his man at half court for no reason and jacking shots w/ 23 on the shot clock in garbage time. Dude just doesn't get it.

The Answer Man Does Not Have An Identity Crisis

sealy wrote:Q. You sure you're the "answer man"?

A. Last time Mrs. Answer Man checked I was.

sealy wrote:Q. so why you would make say Baron is only slightly better is unusual to me.

A. What I said was that Davis is only a few clicks better than Toney Douglas, and Toney Douglas is a ball of confusion.

AM. Baron has about three weeks to get it together or we are toast.

We are more in agreement on this than you give credit. Here are the few clicks better Baron owns.

Click 1. Davis has more experience running an offense, but is limited physically due to injury.
Click 2. Davis' endurance limits him to no more than 20 effective minutes a game. Anything more invites further erosion to his fragile body
Click 3. Douglas, as limited a decision maker as he is on offense, is the superior defender

Unfortunately, we are not.

Click 1: agreed
Click 2: I think he can handle more minutes than that.
Click 3: Couldn't disagree more here and I think TD is one of the most overrated defenders the Knicks have had in some time. Baron gets burnt because he's hurt and slow, like you saw personally against Teague. What's TD's excuse for getting blown past all the time? Baron, being the more heady and veteran player, is a much better help defender and on ball defender against bigger guards who try to use their size.

I must agree with Sealy on Click 3. TD SHOULD be the better defender but continuously plays to tight/over-plays and gets beat repeatedly because of it. I can't believe that the coaches have not taught him better yet!! Hopefully Woody does fix this but he did it again last night - SMH

I think TD can once again be productive and I myself despise Baron Davis' game. Selfish, stupid and full of conceit. Yes he can pass but unfortunately he does not do it enough. At this point, he is a FAR better defender since he understands the team defense concept while TD does not.
