This season has been a roller coaster ride since the start. Yes, it sucks that both STAT and Lin are on the shelf but this season is far from over.
If we get lucky we get STAT back for the palyoffs and maybe Lin if we make the 2nd round. Shump has elevated his game, we need TD to play the way he's capable of playing and we're getting JJ back. In a perfect world we'd be 100% healthy but there is no such thing as perfect and the Knicks.
I may get roasted for this but I have faith in Baron. Yes, his shooting percentage sucks but he's averaging 5.5 assists since taking over for JLIN17.
Regardless of the injuries we still have a ton of talent on this team. Don't ask me why but I have a strong feeling that something special is going to take place this year. We can still win the Atlantic!
Yes, our schedule is tough to say the least but there's a reason why the games are played. LET'S GO KNICKS!!!!!!!
Howard Beck Rides D'Antoni's Jock Into The Sunset
With Lin gone, whatever remained of Mike D’Antoni’s spread-the-floor offense may go with him. This doesn’t mean the Knicks will necessarily be worse off, just drastically different and, to a purist’s eyes, much less aesthetically pleasing. - Howard Beck, NYT
The Knicks are 8-2 in their last ten and Mike Woodson is coaching his ass off. Howard Beck was leading the "woe is us" parade when Woodson was hired.
Aesthetically pleasing?
SSOL was an out of control, undisciplined hot mess.
Yeah, I said it.
Beat Indiana.
I would agree if Baron Davis was healthy and can go 30-35 min and btw, 5.5 assists per game isn't that great for a PG. Melo probably averages around 4. But look who's behind him Bibby? Douglas? wouldn't be surprised if Baron is next to go on the DL. and i'm sorry Shump isn't a PG.
It's almost funny that BDiddy ends up in the Saviour's role lotsa folks had him pegged for prior to Linsanity.
At least he can't lose any more steps, and his turnover's are down.
Maybe with Melo playing the semi-point-forward position, we don't need anything better at PG than Shump? And Baron goes back to the bench where he can be the auto-ignition for JR every game?

I respectfully disagree on Melo's role: the guy should be posting up, beating one-on-one coverage with bully-ball or kicking it out of the double and generating rhythm at the free throw line to get his mid-range game going. That's the man's game and he's looked a lot better doing it. Maybe I'm trapped in the 90s, but I just think a post presence is crucial and for all his faults, the man is a legit threat in the block.
Which brings us back to Baron, the-burnt-out-husk-that-was-Toney-Douglas and Mike Bibby's corpse as primary distributors. May God have mercy on our soul.
The Answer Man Saves His Best Effort For The Playoffs

Baron Davis has been a lot of things, but he ain't never been, and never will be, a savior.
Minimally, Davis is a functional caddie to Carmelo. At best, he would get the ball to Tyson Chandler where he can operate. Period.
jrodmc wrote:At least he can't lose any more steps, and his turnover's are down.
If BDizzle lost any more steps he would be running in reverse.
jrodmc wrote:Q. Maybe with Melo playing the semi-point-forward position, we don't need anything better at PG than Shump?
A. Shumpert, slthough he can cameo advancing the pill, is not a lead guard. Has anyone seen Rick Brunson?
jrodmc wrote:Q. And Baron goes back to the bench where he can be the auto-ignition for JR every game?
A. "auto-ignition for JR"? Can you please say that in basketball terms?
Woodson has done a very good job dealing with injury in the post MDA era.
He has a nice inventory and one that has players that can step up on any given night.
Wild card players like JR, Novak and Shump can fill in the void left by injury or age.
Lower the expectations and enjoy the games.
I seriously doubt we can contend against the mighty heat or bulls in the first round but:
1. I do believe we can get into the playoffs
2. Injuries happen. In a flash we can gain our health and another team can lose theirs as fast as we did.
No team is immune to a potential injury problem.
Tune in and find out.
Assuming Amare at least comes back, the Knicks will have the exact starting lineup we anticipated before the season started - with 4 of the 5 starters being in pretty good physical health (which sounds similar to other NBA teams). If you were optimistic about the team at the start of the season, you should be now too.

I agree man. I think Beck is a really good reporter but since MDA left he's really been harping on this team like they've been a joke. You can have opinions but at least report that this team before MDA and after so far is like night and day. It's been almost amateurish how he's been writing about the Knicks. Almost as if he's happy Lin is down so he can wax poetic about how beautiful of a team we were for a week and a half at the height of Linsanity.

We might be winning uglier but at least now we can win if we play ugly.
Our records When we shoot < 40% (FG):
MDA = 2 - 9
Woody = 3 - 1
Bottom line ... defense wins games.
Good chance Lin doesn't need this surgery if his boy Dantoni wasn't riding Lin like Secretariat playing him 45mins a night

Agreed but he can get the assists totals up as well as his dismal shooting percentage we'd be much better off. I think he has some gas left in the tank and considering this week is a light as far as games it will give him a chance to rest the hammy.
Baron's shooting will improve it just needs time especially now with the nagging injuries

Nope,
I don't want Melo playing Point Forward. Sorry been there and tried that.
I don't need my primary offensive weapon wasting energy just bringing the ball up to what have it end with a 3 for whomever. If we did that, opposing teams would just love that. you play right into their hands. You have Melo, you post him and run the offense through him. He will open things up for everyone else. Few teams can play melo single coverage, and we know he will pass the ball. So if you need to, go out and find a serviceable pg who can bring the ball up as insurance in case Baron goes down. but in my opinion, I'm starting Baron and I'm having a conversation with toney D. His role in this offense is much different than in MDA. He just needs to bring the ball up the court, get it to Melo and be ready to hit the open shot.

What delusion are you living in? Lin averaged 35-36 minutes a game same as bunch of other PGs. Does it feel good to make stuff up so you can keep beating on a dead horse?
In a perfect world:
-We'd eek out enough victories to at least jump to the 6th seed.
-Toney Douglas would provide the spark from the bench, allowing BD to play only 25 minutes a game.
-We'd somehow get Amare at close to full strength before the end of the season
-We'd get get Boston in the first round, and exact revenge from last year.
-We'd get Jeremy Lin back for the 2nd round and possibly pull off another upset.
-Woodson would get the vote of confidence from both management and players and get a new contract.
-We'd somehow keep Lin, Novak, and JR for 1 more year and persuade Steve Nash to come to NY to win a Championship.
-Full strength, healthy, reloaded and focused Knicks win it all next year!
We all can dream...

But that was a huge increase without any preparation.. I'm not saying that caused the injury, though.

Also agree the season is not over with defense as the focus. Though it'd be nice to have some more scorers. Baron, Shump, JR, Tyson, Fields and Novak need to step up to help Melo out on the scoring side. It'd be nice if Toney could re-start his NBA career again, too.
And, lordy, do we need Jeffries back.

Yes that's true. Just trying to dispel the myth of 45 minutes per game. Some of this stuff is just ridiculous. Not that we had a choice but to play him heavy minutes. I guess we could have watched TD chick threes to provide relief to Lin and Lindanity never would have happened and we would be 4 games behind the Bucks.

Torn meniscus is a trauma injury and not a wear injury! It can happen due to a knee twist not just by normal running up and down.

Very true. I remember lin landed funny on his knee one of his last games so that may have caused the tear
