Knicks · need lin more than Amare (page 1)

IrishKnickFan @ 4/9/2012 4:05 PM
I love the way we have been playing even without our two starters. melo has been on fire. the only weakness i see with us is at the point. Baron and Toney havent hurt us enough to lose but they have given us nothing. hopefully lin will have a fast recovery. Now Amare was starting to come around and play great right before he got injured but I feel that we can still play well without him as long as JJ is healthy. I just hope we can get our pg back in time for the playoffs

I agree with this. But it sure would be nice to have both. Look slike it'll be STAT before Lin, if either come back.

Dont get me wrong we could use Stat. But i wonder if Woody lets Amare come off the bench at first for two reasons. The first would be taht not too many minutes to ease him back in and the second reason would be to help our second unit which has been weakned a little
holfresh @ 4/9/2012 4:24 PM
We are really hurting at the point right now...Absolutely no production there right now...Lin will be a welcome sight for sore eyes...I think his season is over tho, even in the playoffs..It's going to be tough for him to come back and get in rhythm and be effective....We have to really look at the PG position for next year, it's going to make or break us...

I like this idea but wonder if Melo can take the beating at PF for a full year (assuming this is a good move long term).

Man, someone like Jason Thompson would be nice to have starting with Amare off bench, if he can fit from a defensive standpoint. Or BJ Mullins?

With his bad back and lack of rebounding and defensive awareness, Amare is just more suitable off the bench, whatever his past performance and contract may otherwise indicate

Yea I made a similar post elsewhere. STAT coming off the bench the rest of the season may be best. Even if he finishes games on the court. Melo is in a crazy rythm right now. If STAT comes off the bench it'll lighten the load on his back and keep Melo in his comfort zone, as well as keep our D at a high level.

It may also give melo some time to rest

When STAT comes back I hope they look at him more at the five with Melo on the floor. The 4 and 5 PnR will be deadly and was against the Pacers when Woody had Chandler sit out the last 5+ minutes. Then you also get to have them both at the high post on the elbows with out a big to give help at the rim.
SlimChin @ 4/9/2012 5:09 PM
PEOPLE, the reality is you can't have a 100 million dollar player coming off the bench! and let's be real, Knicks are going to need Stat in the playoffs. with that said melo has been thriving in the PF position and there's a big void in the PG position with Lin out so yeah some things are kind of obvious.

We are getting away with being beaten up on the boards and Amare would help that tremendously...I think we keep things as the are running the offense thru Melo and having Amare be the second option...I think Woody was doing it the other way around because Melo can create on his own...We need Amare to be able to really compete, Melo can't put up those numbers every night...

Bonn1997 @ 4/9/2012 5:14 PM
If Manu Ginobili and Ray Allen can come off the bench, Amare Stoudemire can.
Bonn1997 @ 4/9/2012 5:15 PM
I'd like to see Amare get 14 mpg as backup PF and 14 as backup C off the bench. That should help preserve his career and he has a nice speed advantage at C.

well our pg position is horrible right now so having lin not only gives us another scoring option but he can penetrate better than the other two guys as well.

I won't let him go either but we really have to look at upgrading the back up position just in case...We should be able to compete next year and we really can't afford to just run with Lin and not have another option if he breaks down again...We are too close...

My bad i thought you meant that they should let lin go sorry. You are right about needing to upgrade the backup position

i didn't realize contract size determined lineups and best strategy.

JVG made a great point about Ray Allen now coming off the bench and how much it has helped the team. Amare coming in to play the 5 off the bench would be a huge advantage. Also, to be effective and explosive Amare may need to have his minutes limited. Even a compromised Amare is still going to be very hard for a second unit to handle.
