Knicks · Who's going to be out next from injury? Tyson Chandler??? (page 1)

JamesLin @ 4/17/2012 5:30 AM
I'm tired of seeing our starters and bench players going out due to injuries. I'm gonna jinx that and ask that question. Yeah, yeah, I know, superstition... but I'm just tired of all the dramas and injuries our team has had this year and we're still playoff hopeful. It's time to fight against the fate we've been given! Sorry, I'm just pissed. The Heat won that game but they don't deserve it. We lost way too many players and many of them are playing hurt.
Bonn1997 @ 4/17/2012 5:52 AM
This sentiment does not strike me as valid. Our big 3 have played in 88% of the games this year. When you add that Lin fell into our laps, we've had very good luck overall.

Hmm.. good point. Our big 3 has been playing healthy 88%. Lin only counted for 2 weeks of excellence. You better put the pipe down man. We've had bad luck overall. Lost coach, lost starters, lost our rosters and got new one, our bench players were not healthy either. Davis didn't come til later. Iman didn't perform like this at beginning except spotting scores. If you think we've had very good luck, then your life must be miserable in order to say that. You sir, are not valid.

First you say good point, and then you say I am not valid? Talk about being all over the place! Lin counted for only a few weeks but we would not be in the playoff mix without that stretch. I doubt our bench players have had more injuries than most team's benches. You seem to be showing fan bias.

I believe brother James was being sarcastic with the "good point", unless of course you're being sarcastic by asking about why he said "good point", in which case you are really real, Bonn.

Shump's been out, Jorts been out, Fishlips, BD's uniform still has creases in it, TD's been out (not that anybody cared), Bill Walker, now Jordan (not that it matters) other than JSmith, who hasn't been hurt on the bench? Bibbles don't count.

Shump's played 90% of the games. We got BD injured. The other guys? OK, maybe 7 through 12 we've had bad luck.
If you were to tell me at the start of the season that, on the one hand, Chandler (a guy with an injury history) would play at DPOY level for 58/60 games, our big 3 would play 88% of the games, we'd get Smith and Novak (who both stayed healthy), and Linsanity would fall in our laps, and on the other hand, Jeffries, Jorts, Douglas, and Walker would have significant injuries, I'd say sign me up.

The way I look at it is that we were exposed as being a stag many, impotent offense under BOTH coaches in the absence of a PG and good outside shooting. This was despite having the big 3 healthy our offense didn't flow when TD/ Bibby were running it ( rather ruining it).

I think this is important to recognize the above because it's our backcourt ( especially starting PG) that has suffered from injury issues. Our Big 3 are less like Miami and much more like Boston in their need to have a good NBA caliber starting PG to bring the best out in them.

So I think injuries did play a part, in how our offense disappears at crunch time when we need it most.

Moonangie @ 4/17/2012 10:34 AM
We had some bad luck in terms of injuries, loss of Fields' shooting ability, Davis playing nothing like the BDiddy of old. However...

We also had some incredibly good luck in landing our PG-of-the-future off the junk heap of the NBA and finally getting out from the lackluster leadership of MDA. I liked the "idea" of his offensive scheme, but I think at this point it has proven itself too inflexible to win at a consistent rate in the NBA without an MVP-calibre PG running it. Also, I doubt it would ever find success in the playoffs due to the lack of defensive focus.

IMO, our good luck so far exceeded our bad luck this season, that we should consider the Knicks well-positioned for next year.

That's what you'd expect from guys with OK (Melo) to bad assist : turnover ratios (Amare, Tyson). Tyson plays a small role on offense - so for him the stat less important. Pierce, Allen, and KG are all better passers. They're more dependent on a PG than Miami is but less so than we are.

Not sure how well you did in math in school but its 83.88% of the games.

This offense definitely flutters without at least a decent PG - both before and after. The difference being that we are still winning games now - even when we are struggling offensively. Thats similar to the 90's knicks and and is some sort of recipe for success. The losses that we have had were games that we were underdogs and were sort of expected to lose. We did win many games that we were expected to lose as well.

However, I do not think that without a viable PG we can do any real damage in the playoffs.

Good point that Miami does not need a PG like we do or Boston but Lebron is essentially a PG.

Good point Bonn

Though not a good point.

The contracted schedule has caused a lot of grief around the NBA.

As to the question posed by the thread starter; I sure hope not.

Not sure why you need to be snotty but you're right; it's 84 not 88%. Still sounds average or better than average relative to most teams' top 3 in this season, and we've had our outstanding 3 intact for most of the games.

Well then let's go with the interpretation of my comment as being sarcastic!
