Knicks · OT: Meta World Peace should be banned for life or for significant time - ENOUGH!! (page 1)

I took great offense to what Artest or whatever the phuck his name is did today. He elbows Harden (akin to a (blind) sucker punch) in the back of the head with full force and Harden never saw it coming. The back of the head is the most dangerous place to get hit. Does he have to kill someone before the league realizes that he is not playing with a full deck!!!!!

A close friend of mines 13 y/o son was playing softball about a month and a half ago. The batter swung the (aluminum) bat and it flew out of his hands and flew about 30-40 feet way into foul territory and hit him in the back of the head. He was not looking and unfortunately was not wearing a helmet. He has been in a brain dead coma since with not much hope of recovery.

When I saw the elbow I cringed knowing how dangerous that can be. Maybe I am more sensitive to it because of my friends son but nevertheless, I don't think 2 games is anywhere near what he deserves. HE HAS A CONCUSSION AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE!! THE NBA NEEDS TO PROTECT THEIR PLAYERS!!!!

Yea the elbow was Jon Jones like and extremely accurate. Could've done some major damage.

Good point the only difference being that UFC fighters sign up for this and will not have many marbles later in life. They are also not defenseless - they know they are fighting.

Hitting in the back of the head is also ILLEGAL in the UFC. There is a reason for that.

No place for it in the NBA. Should be rest of regular and at least 1 or 2 playoff games at the minimum with hefty fines depending on severity to Harden's injury.

I kind of knew that new name would turn ironic at some point, considering how volatile Artest is.

I agree with this thread. This was completely stupid and irresponsible. Coming from a guy with previous cases of violence, the league should make a point here. A ban for the rest of the season, also considering Harden couldn't return and could be really affected by the hit, should definitely be considered.

If anyone did what Ron Ron did outside of an arena, he'd go to jail.
Bonn1997 @ 4/23/2012 7:39 AM
Yeah, for life. I doubt Stern will do that though.
VCoug @ 4/23/2012 7:54 AM

Here's the video, it's really bad. Artest is going to get a long suspension for this... again.
CashMoney @ 4/23/2012 8:08 AM
This guy is just not right in the head. Enough is enough, the guy should not be in the NBA.

LOL, I hadn't thought of that. His actions make his name absurd.

Metta World War!

Yeah, my girlfriend and I were watching Sports Center and I mentioned it to her that his name is "Metta World Peace". She asked how he could have such a name and do something like that. I have no good answer. Sad. Hope he gets a long suspension, at a minimum.

its a shame that a guy who has basketball talent could never get his head straight. If he used more energy on just basketball he would have been a multiple time all-star but he is instead this generation's rodman
Killa4luv @ 4/23/2012 10:10 AM
Medical world peace has mental health issues. Lifetime ban is ridiculous. But he should be shut down for the season. This is serious. I'd give him a certain number of games, like between 10 - 15 games.
NYKBocker @ 4/23/2012 10:17 AM
Ibaka was the only one that went after Artest? Dang. Well at least one guy went after him, unlike what happened to Lin in Dallas.

Artest has a rep for being crazy and dirty, Kidd doesn't.

Bonn1997 @ 4/23/2012 10:27 AM
Now if he had done that to KD instead of Harden, the league might consider a lifetime ban. They have to protect their superstars.
knicks1248 @ 4/23/2012 10:30 AM
He said he was celebrating the Dunk...considering how inconsistent he's been playing, if I didn't know better I might believe that..but since he has such a history of doing weird violent sht..he gets no benefit of a doubt..should get slammed with 2 games and a hefty fine..
jrodmc @ 4/23/2012 10:57 AM
Let him get banned for life and go to China and play and pull this kind of crap.
Nalod @ 4/23/2012 11:00 AM

He has been great the last few years. Got some award last year for his community service.

Watching the tape he looks to do it without Malice. He hits the soft part of Hardents temple (awful) he does not feel the impact of what he did. These guys are always bumping and bruising.

He has been a model citizen the last few years and I don't think he gets more than two games.

If he was in his nutty ways I would have to agree he should be done for the year.

This guy is not wired right we all know. If the elbow happens in a fit of rage I'd be more prone to throw the book at him.

This is just plain weird. He does not even wince when he clocked him. He does not look at him. Its like he was just not there. Weird.

smackeddog @ 4/23/2012 11:06 AM
I think people sometimes exagerate his behaviour- essentially he hasn't seriously hurt anyone up until now, and for the most part, he's kept his nose clean these past few seasons. He's not a monster.

Yes he does have mental health issues, but so do a lot of people- I don't think he should be banned for life from working because of it. That "Malice in the Palace" backlash was pretty unfair, in my opinion- if any of you were lying on a scorers table and some punk threw a drink at you, most of you would go after him. I still think the fans at that arena were responsible for that melee, but the media seemed to find it easier to blame and demonize the guy with the reputation.

This elbowing incident was pretty vicious, so yes he deserves to be suspended for some games- but to be honest I think Kevin Love's face stomping incident a few weeks ago was on the same level, but for some reason Kevin Love got a free ride (2 games?!) from the league and the media.
