Knicks · OT: Kiss FM to become ESPN New York 98.7, marging with rival WBLS (page 2)

Oh my God, I'll actually be able to listen to the Knicks on the radio!
Vmart wrote:Biggest unfortunate thing about this move is going to be listening to that idiot Michael Kay with clarity. In which case I will turn back to WFAN.

Kiss FM is a legendary station... I always think of the namecheck in ATCQ/LONS "Scenario". The big news in this story is hearing Inner City Broadcasting was bankrupt. I wonder what's up with WLIB.
also shouted by rampage the last boy scout on craig mack's 'flava in ya year (remix)'
indeed, a legendary station...
used to check red alert for years there before he switched stations...

Loved the radio, KISS and WBLS, then later 89 Tech 9 with Stretch and Bobbito. To get my video fix used to put the VHS on record for Video Music Box with Uncle Ralph McDaniel:

Im with everyone else.. at this point ESPN is the better radio overall and that 1050 signal is utter garbage.
Jrod... that font hurt my brain.

Fish, as long as it bleeds blue and orange and white, it's a good thing...
I'm just re-reading the story, and don't quite understand what the Spanish thing has to do with it.
If I tune into 98.7 for the playoffs on Monday, and it's in espanol, I'm going to go postal, and the font I use will hurt everyone's brains at one time.

Takes me back to 9th grade listening to Tribe and De La and PR+CL daily on my CD player. This track is 20 years old. Man, do I feel old right now.

Oh please, I was listening to skipping records of EW&F, Stevie Wonder and pirated tapes of Sugar Hill Gang.
Kids these days [hikes up his pants].

Wow, you had a CD player back then K? Baller! I was strictly tapes & wax back then. But I still have the Aiwa CD boombox I copped at the Wiz in '94, so I didn't get to CDs until I got Midnight Marauders from Columbia House. Haha... yea, definitely dating myself on that one.
Jrod, don't worry... When 98.7 makes the transition to ESPN from Kiss (has it started yet?), 1050 is going to switch to ESPN Deportes 24/7 Spanish-language sports talk.

I thank you, DrA for the clarity. Now I do feel bad that the Hispanic communities Knick fans down here in South Jersey will now have to suffer through what I've been suffering through.
But not that bad.
Knicks playoffs on FM. No static at all.
It's got to be sign of good things!

The Doctor may be younger, but recognizes the Steely Dan reference!

Pointless classics, my friend.

I didn't even notice that part. It's incredibly poorly worded but I think they're saying that ESPN 1050 will be broadcast in Spanish, not 98.7

Yea, I'm thinking simulcast 'til the fall, then switch when they get staffed up and the summer marketing campaign.
WFAN is owned by CBS Radio. Their other FM frequencies are WCBS, which is back to oldies from that Jack fiasco, 102.7 (Fresh music? Wherefore art thou WNEW?), and 92.3, the former K-Rock that went talk for a hot minute. Wonder if the FAN will jump to FM before long...

So many of the Philly FM rock stations down here in Sou Jersey have gone sports talk radio. It's sad to have so much clear wattage to talk about almost nothing of relevance.
