Amare for Meta World Peace and the Lakers trade 8.9M trade exception? That would leave us 2 years of World Peace at 7M. I believe this would give us some cap flexibility and the Lakers would get Amare off the bench to replace what Odom gave them
As much as a block head Artest can be...I would welcome some toughness on this team and some cap room.

I would do it, but I don't think the Lakers will want to pay 20 millions for a guy that wll come off the bench for them, especially considering that 8.9 million trade exception can get them a very good player.
Lakers have Gasol at 4 why trade a 4 w/ a 3?
It's against the rules for the Lakers to make that trade. You can't combine a trade exception with a player to make a larger trade.
You wouldn't make it anyway unless you were just gonna send Artest home.
Deals like Amare for
Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva
Monta Ellis and Drew Gooden
David Lee and Richard Jefferson
are probably doable but we'd be stuck with smaller deals that arent going to be easily movable.
I prefer a package to actually get a gret player back in return.
Can we trade Amare for Lee. We need Lee's rebound more next year with Lin at point.

I think it can be used in a 3 way deal where the exception is used for a player
"a trade exception to acquire a player is in effect a non-simultaneous trade"

The exception has to take up the entire salary of a player.

This is the example I am quoting from a proposed deal with the Lakers for Howard
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lakers Use of the Odom Trade Exception
The Lakers cannot use the Lamar Odom trade exception of $8.9 million to take on Turkoglu's contract. Nor can they combine this $8.9 trade exception with other trade exceptions to get to the magic $11 million number required to execute the trade.
What the Lakers can do is trade this exception to another team for an $8 million player with the approval of Orlando. The Lakers then fill an actual body into this trade exception, under Orlando's guidance, and use it to consummate a trade.
Using the trade exception to acquire a player is in effect a non-simultaneous trade. The Lakers and Magic can only organize a multi-player deal where the unnamed player to be received by the Lakers under the $8.9 trade exception is executed as a one-player deal, completing the non-simultaneous Lamar Odom trade, and then used in a larger package between the teams.
Right. The Lakers would have to fill the exception with a player first and the Knicks would get said player and MWP.

1) an aging Amare might actually beast off the bench with a reduced work load/less minutes giving them a 6th man who can come in and score
2) They are a large market and can handle Amare's contract to add a star player
3) they get him for basically nothing
4) Amare's contract expires at the right time for them when they will have massive cap room

Thanks, I didn't realize this when I started the thread

Gettting Lee back on this team makes a ton of sense. He's a good passer, finisher, and rebounder. His defensive issues will be covered up by Chandler. He fits better with Melo and Chandler.
GS should consider trading Lee and Biendris (or jefferson) for Stoudemire. They need to continue to shake things up in order to have a chance to satisfy their fan base. Dealing Ellis or Bogut was a good move, but would get them much better right now. Suddenly having a core of Curry, Stoudemire, Bogut, Thompson and this year's lotto pick gives them a great look. For us, having Melo, Chandler, Lee, Lin, and Shumpert gives us the best shot at a balanced, deep playoff contending starting lineup.

Haha - that would be hillarious! MJax is the perfect coach to teach Amare about defense since he was the ultimate defender.
