Knicks · If Lin Comes Back for 5... (page 2)

I'm not counting on Lin back for game 5....

But if we somehow make it to a game 6, coupled with the emotional Garden crowd...we HAVE to have a Lin sighting, even if it's just a few minutes. It would get everyone SO juiced.

Woodson needs to keep making adjustments...the less healthy bodies we have, the easier it is for the Heat to gameplan. One particular issue I'm concerned about is the Heat gameplanning to force Amar'e to his left, causing even more turnovers for Turnover'e Stoudemire.

If he can play well, he will. I don't think the injuries are affecting his thinking, if anything he wants to help the team out. He doesn't strike me as being selfish of all things.

Anyway, stranger things have happened and he is getting close to a return. We don't need 4 in a row, we are down to 3. The past is the past.

If Lin plays we might actually see some PnR and Chandler may score more than 1 point. Who knows, an re-energized nerd backcourt might be interesting to see against the Hate.

Knicks’ Lin Has Hurdles to Clear Before a Return
By HOWARD BECK
With a thrilling victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday, the Knicks not only infused new life into their postseason but raised a tantalizing possibility: the return of Linsanity.

Jeremy Lin is ahead of schedule in his recovery from knee surgery. He is running again and has scrimmaged three-on-three. He has hinted at a possible return in this series. With Baron Davis and Iman Shumpert both lost to knee injuries, the Knicks, who trail the Heat, three games to one, have never needed Lin more.

The stage would seem set for a storybook return, but the reality is more complicated. Lin is not in game shape, has yet to play five-on-five and has not received medical clearance.

“I’m not counting on Jeremy Lin to play,” Coach Mike Woodson said in a conference call with reporters Monday.

Lin had surgery on April 2 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. He has not played in a game since March 24, a span of 44 days. Although he has played three-on-three in the last week, he has not had contact on consecutive days.

“I’ve watched him shoot and run up and down – he’s not in great shape,” Woodson said. “You know as well as I know that playoff basketball you’ve got to be at an all-time high and he hasn’t played in a while.”

Even if Woodson were comfortable with Lin’s condition, the call is not yet his to make. Team doctors have to clear Lin for five-on-five contact first. Woodson said he expected Lin to play three-on-three again Tuesday.

Mike Bibby, who at one point was out of the rotation, will start at point guard in Game 5 Wednesday, Woodson said. Toney Douglas, who has yet to play in this series, could play as his backup, although Woodson sounded more inclined to use a big lineup with J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony handling the ball when Bibby is on the bench.

Davis – the Knicks’ starting point guard since Lin went down – dislocated his right knee cap in the third quarter of the Knicks’ 89-87 victory Sunday. The team is awaiting test results, but Davis is not expected to play again in this postseason. Shumpert, the Knicks’ other starting guard, tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in Game 1.

The Knicks are trying to become the first N.B.A. team to win a playoff series after losing the first three games.

It's giving me goosebumpos just thinking about how crazy a Game 6 Garden Crowd would be. I mean the place was ready to fall apart yesterday when we were down 0-3.

Unfortunately the likelyhood of that happening is close to 0%. I think LeBron has a monster 42/15/10 type performance on Wednesday.

It's bullcrap. Lin's value is already set. It's either gonna be the mid-level or lower.

Based on his "audition" during the Linsanity era, I'd say it's more then likely to be the MLE (which is the most any team can offer him). We will most certainly match the ofer.

Yeah. That was exactly my point. I think he'll get a 2 year deal at the MLE and then he'll be a bird rights guy for the Knicks if he can sustain his play. He might get offered the full MLE contract, though, and I'd give it to him as well.

Here's the thing. The Knicks shouldn't play him unless they're 200% sure that he's completely healthy. Right now it's an unecessary risk to Lin's career and the Knicks should respect that.

I think if the Knicks make this a 6 or 7 game series that people might relax a little and be more patient with the thing.

While it would be nice to see Lin play, I don't think he, his doctors and most especially the Knicks management would risk it. He is their ticket to more cash next season and years to come. It would be a bad business move if they did. My guess would be they 'might' play him but very limited minutes and them take him out once it gets rough.

I like SAS but once someone turns him off, he is turned off from them forever. See A-Rod, Marbury, Tebow and now STAT and Lin. He has no credibility when it comes to this. Lin needs to play when he is ready, not when SAS and Jalen Rose and Skip Bayless say he's ready.

SAS doesn't know what he wants. He kept trashing the kid before and yet now he is acting like with Lin playing, it would make a whole lot of difference.

Doctors don't have crystal balls. All they can do is make predictions that on average will be more accurate than the non-medical community. It's certainly possible that every doctor would say he can play and then he blows out his knee and ruins the rest of his career.

SAS never liked Lin. Which is pretty weird now that he wants Lin to save the Knicks. I guess another negative to throw Lin's way.

Next year may never happen...I'm feeling 2000 knick run. I'm all in this year! Everybody plays that can!

Actually Smith praised lin after the laker game and even said that melo has to fit in with lin. then the Mimai game happened and Smith decided that lin sucked. yes lin played horrible that game but the other 30 games he started he played will considering it was his first time getting significant playing time

If we somehow get the series back to new york Lin will be back. Maybe not as a starter but he will play in NY. He has to be at least 90% tho. I'm predicting Linsanity part 2: Playoff edition if that happens!

I don't care if we don't win 4 in a row. Just the idea of a 3-3 series tie is enough to make it exciting to watch.

Game 5 will take the biggest of miracles to win. Heat do not want to go back to NY. It would take a classic Heat choke job for the Knicks to win but stranger things have happened or has it?
Syniko @ 5/7/2012 9:41 PM
I was listening to some of what Lin had to say about lateral movement and slashing. Why can't he just take part in a game and NOT do any of those things like slash to the hoop. I would rather have him hover around near the perimeter and distribute the ball and take the occasional open jump shot.

What is so important about having Lin slash to the hoop if they know he's incapable of doing it because of his limited movement and slow recovery. We need all the help we can and I'll gladly sacrifice a slashing lin just for one game if we can get a passing/mid-range jumper Lin.

I suspect Lin still do not trust his mid-ranger. He's more comfortable with slashing and drawing a foul. Ah, a shame, since he's pretty accurate with those mid-range.

VDesai @ 5/7/2012 9:45 PM
I think Lin tries to pull a Willis Reed- but its highly doubtful he's ready to contribute in any meaningful fashion.
Mray20 @ 5/7/2012 9:45 PM
He needs to play if he can we just need him to knock down some open shots and bring the ball up the court. We don't need him to drive to the rim unless he's open and I don't even wanna see pick and roll after Miami destroyed him that last game. His presence will inspire this team let's bring it back to NY for game 6!
Syniko @ 5/7/2012 9:54 PM
Woodson not so sure about Lin for Game 5

"But Woodson said he's "a little apprehensive" about Lin because he hasn't played in an NBA game since March 24 and hasn't gone five-on-five with full contact since then.

Also, Lin said last week he needed "to get to the point where I can trust the knee and not think about it.'' If he's not 100 percent confident, the Heat isn't the best team to play, particularly when it's trying to close out a series. Lin struggled against the Heat in February, shooting 1-for-11 with eight turnovers, and that was when he was on two good legs.

"I've watched him shoot and run up and down," Woodson said. "He's not in great shape. Playoff basketball, you've got to be at an all-time high, and he hasn't played in a while. I don't know if that's going to be a determining factor with the doctors."

It's nice to think about but I wouldn't want to risk Lin. All we can hope for is Round 2.

He couldnt get up the court against Chalmers healthy.
