The Answer Man Was Even Introduced To Terri

A. VCoug - The Answer Man lives in Atlanta. The Hawks forwards were mismatched and immature. Joe johnson is the most verbally challenged pro athlete ever given a leadership role, Marvin Williams was just traded and Josh Smith acted like a petulant brat. Have you watched how Danny Ferry has dismantled the Hawks? That is for good reason.
How do I know Mike Woodson is a better fit in New York?
He has veterans who understand how to communicate. Woodson also does an excellent job of making his agenda clear. He is old school enough to channel Red Holzman and new school enough to relate to yoots. How cool is that?
One more thing, I have met and talked with Mike Woodson.
Who you gonna trust, some distilled third-person report via a reporter on a deadline, or the straight skinny from your Friendly Neighborhood Answer Man?
Woodson is a subpar coach who is stubborn and not very bright. He has done the only think he beleives can get him some job security and that is to hitch a ride on the M train to the promised land. Only he isn't smart enough to realize he will never get there unless he can control MElo. In real life MElo dictates terms and Woody lets him - starting with how the offense needs to be run. He projects a tough image and babbles oncessantly about accountability. His version of accountability is calling players out in te media. If he had mandated that Melo should come back with a new commitment to defense - I would have been interested to see how that played out. But he doesn't have the guts to do that, never will.

So you haven't watched games where Woodson lets loose during the game? Melo himself has stated that he gets the brunt of Woodson wrath during film sessions so exactly how is Woodson letting Melo dictate what he does?

Oh that's right there's a whole host of people who think yelling at someone means holding them accountable.

Awesome info. Thanks for sharing. Also I have enjoyed the sensibility you have brought to this tough situation.
One last thing, I am pretty sure you and Kam had a run in awhile back and I think I was pretty critical of you. For what it's worth, I apologize.

Feel free to omit the film sessions. What is the problem that you see between Woody and Melo?

I guess after 4 years of not communicating displeasure to players it was time to switch it up.

Loweye - subpar can be defined in many ways. Based on the record, it would be valid to label Doc Rivers as a subpar coach before KG and Jesus arrived. Celtics fans were ready to run Doc out of Boston. Suddenly, he became a much better coach after the free agency signings. What is the difference? Did he suddenly become smarter?
You can drop any adjectives your heart feels appropriate for Mike Woodson and his tenure with the Hawks. Then again, they were the same last season when they performed well during the season and the leading men shrunk when it counted most in the playoffs.
Leave your Melo madness at the door. Mike Woodson managed despite injuries to his backcourt that left Mike Bibby a starter by the time the games mattered. The first hand accounts via a colleague knows Mike personally, his frustration with a barely ambulatory and very rusty Baron Davis was apparent. Still, the Knicks finished strong and he managed to squeeze the same amount of wins as OKC vs Miami in the playoffs without a lead guard. Imagine what he might conceive with the new crew that is three deep at an essential position.
So please, be my guest and draw your random negative opinion on bitter beer face vapors. Training camp has not started and the head coach is on the clock. But please, when you want to label someone as not very bright - who has paid his dues as an outstanding college student-athlete, professional player/ assistant/ head coach - while you are mashing keys on a laptop - you might want to reconsider.
Let the record show you have never coached a person in basketball in your life.
We All Live In A Yellow Submarine
CrushALot - the olive leaf is appreciated. Whatever dustup there was in the past is in the past. The Answer Man does not hold grudges.
Life is too good for bad vibes.
Has anybody seen Pablo Prigioni at Kennedy Airport?
After the whole clumsy thing and saying he wouldn't have signed with us I think there is an exactly zero percent chance of Jackson being our coach next season. Woodson is the best coach available right now for our squad. If we don't sign someone of that caliber what coach would ever come in Knowing he could be booted after winning at the rate that Woodson did and replaced with a middle of the road to bad coach. The topic doesn't make any sense.
You don't want a coach because the owner and GM like him? So you would only accept a coach that the owner and GM hate? I don't think such a coach exists.

this is the other reason I don't want Woodson back.
I'll root for him, and this team for a while longer- but Dolan is really a test of fan loyalty.

Problem? Did you even read what I posted? Woody will babysit Melo for the next three years in the hopes of riding his cost tails to the second round. If Melo sours on him (like Marbury soured on LB) it's curtains for Woody.

I call Woodson subpar because that's what he is. If he does what Doc Rivers did, I'll be happy to call him above average.
Unlike you I don't consider paying your dues as a sign of being intelligent. I am not calling him a bad person, I just don't think he has shown anything as coach that says he can get to the next level. So yes in my opinion he is not ver bright. And the no PG excuse is old and tired. You don't need a PG when 86% of your offense is walk the ball up and dump it to Melo.
Doc Rivers Is An Average Coach?
loweyecue - I call Woodson subpar because that's what he is. If he does what Doc Rivers did, I'll be happy to call him above average.
loweyecue - if Mike Woodson does what Doc Rivers (your words) did, it will be because he had access to upgraded talent, same as Doc had. Not because he suddenly grew a brain.
Then again, Phil Jackson could have always run his offense through Bill Cartwright and Craig Hodges. instead of Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan.
Let's Play The Right Way
"And it's not like they didn't end up with a quality player (in Raymond Felton). I think Mike Woodson is the type of person that will bring about the best in Raymond"

Clean wrote:I like what Woody did during the regular season. My problem with him is he forgets to run plays for other people besides Melo. He is not good making adjustments in the playoffs. We made the same mistakes every game with the exception being that melo got the ball on the wing a little more. The team had no idea how to use a damn zone! The one thing that can be kryptonite to the heat and we could not use it. Don't get me wrong, if a clear upgrade is not available I would love to have woody back. I just hope woody grows as a coach.
It is good to see I was right about Woodson from the start.
Woodson was a big part of what the Knicks were doing these last few seasons... in terms of losing ball games...

yeah he was a big part of what he did.
