That fine-tuning includes Chandler wanting to return stronger and become more of an offensive threat next season.
"I want to come back in better condition and I want to be more of a force on the block," he said. "I want to be able to pass better out of pick-and-rolls. I just want to become more of a threat. Myself and Amare, we really have to become a threat on the block. I mean, we have the pieces here and we have to get better. ... I've got to come back a better player next year."
Looking at Chandler's scoring numbers from this past regular season, he only scored 22 of his 699 total points (0.03 percent) on the block in post-up situations, and only nine points in isolation (0.01 percent). He did most of his damage in pick-and-rolls and cuts to the basket, scoring 231 points (33 percent) and 208 points (30 percent).
I love Tyson Chandler but how can a guy his size not have ANY post up moves ?
.03% of his baskets came on block post up moves. That is crazy.
A veteran (winning) player that is willing to critically examine, and expand his game is refreshing.
The guy has been in the NBA for 10 years and doesn't have one move around the basket. He isn't examining anything.
We have a team that likes to talk and make statements. Melo, Amare are front and center, let's see if Tyson actually works on his game.
This is why a Howard for amare/chandler trade makes sense (if Howard is healthy). Howard scores in the paint and has decent post moves.

Did you ever hear the philosophy that once a man admits he's wrong, then he's automatically forgiven of that wrongdoing?
I prefer Tyson's statement to that of Anthony's assertion that he was in phenomenal shape.
The Knicks need Chandler to develop a post up game and a short to mid-range shot otherwise defenses get a break by just making sure he doesn't roll to the basket. Rebounds and put backs are his game but the Knicks need more. I hope he isn't just talking but really ready to DO WHAT IT TAKES.
i thought we all knew going in that he wasn't a postup player. it'd be cool if he developed those moves, but he's an 11-year veteran at this point. it'd be surprising if he developed something that he never had in his game before at this point of his career.
Believe it when I see it. Bunch of talkers on this team
Tyson is a doer and not a talker. He completely lifted this teams defensive presence and for the most part held up his end of the bargain and played hurt too. Who knows if he'll be successful, but seeing him in person I have a lot of respect for his game and his dedication. He doesn't have to turn into Hakeem!!! If he comes back with a jump hook or something, that would be great, but even if he doesn't he's still one of the most important players on this team and IMO not a reason this team lost. He is a champion, so let's not sully his name just cuz he came to this troubled franchise.

I agree- Our frontcourt really could still be dominant if they learn how to pass to each other- Tyson can see clearly what is lacking between himself, Amare and Carmelo, and he holds them and himself accountable- I don't think it's fake and really our best bet is not to trade any of them and MAKE it work instead of trading one away and selling low, like we always do-
Tyson should work on his strengths. A post game from him means more ISO and guys standing around. We have Melo for that.
On that note, I think more Melo at PF and Amare at the SF might be good. Interchanging those guys by possession might put the opposing defenses on there heels.
Melo is a better rebounder and has more post-game than Amare. Amare on the elbow with a big man guarding him is trouble for the opponent.

He sullied his own name when he failed to show up in the playoffs. He played like he could care less. Was he just dogging it?
Keep giving out free passes to the players that don't affect your stories and talking points.
I admire a guy who sticks to his strengths. Many players take difficulty shots that just hurt their own teams.

Overreach much?
Dude did have a bad game 5.
He brought it for the other 70 games, about 30 more than any other guy on the Knicks team.
when you memory can't reach past the very last game you saw, you should probably limit your own posting.

Really? How about game 1??
0 points 3 rebounds and 7 turnovers!
He had a very good regular season but does not get a pass in my book. And in game 5 he really looked like he was not giving it his all. Check the game thread for how many felt this way.

"Tyson Chandler’s drop in production was noticeable, going from a 70.8 to 49.1 true shooting percentage."
That is a major drop not to mention the lack of rebounds and blocks.
I think players like Chandler just get stuck in roles and although I am sure he practices his post moves in the off season and at practice he is not asked to do it. Not taking shots can be just as bad as taking poor shots. Also not being a good passer hurts. Who knows will he do it or how well he will be at it but just the option of dumping it down will help out the others. Really with his size it will just come down to post position and also attacking more when given the ball in the High Horn Sets. Given his Free throw percentage and motion he should take some open shots.

Like JVG says, if you play you're ok - no excuses. I have seen Kobe MJ ... almost passing out
Tyson is our engine - he gets blame to.
Game 2, Melo gets 9 rebounds he gets 7? Not cool.
I expected more heart out of him in the series and did not see it - Thats my perspective.
And now after 10 years in the league he is starting to think about developing his offensive game a bit more ... wonderful and good morning
A drive to improve, sparked by reflective recollection > egotistical complacency and denial.
I wonder how many of Woodson's players come out of the season feeling like they need (gotta have!) more post moves? Can he play to anyone's strengths?
Wake me up after amare & tyson develop low post moves and learn hiw to pass. They have been in the league for over a decade. I'm more interested in seeing Amare play defense. We dont need scoring from Tyson
