Knicks · Lin's agent: Don't assume he'll return... (page 2)

Wow very dramatic thread. You can turn this into a motion picture. Lin means MORE money in Dolans pockets.

There's at least ten teams I'd rather play for if I were Lin. That said, I'm sure the Knicks match any offer he gets.

Like who?

Any team still playing and some not playing.

It usually works better when the attraction is mutual...

He started 25 games he is unproven and played in Dantoni's system which inflates pg numbers and he was also allowed to do whatever he wanted including turning over the ball ,no way he deserves more than 2 million a year. The Knicks should not match any offer if he wants to leave for money let him leave and I guarantee he will stink it up with another team and be a bench player. The Knicks need Steve Nash their window is the next 3 years imo. I would like Lin to come back at a decent price or even backup Nash but not at 5+ million a year no way.

+1. He is doing his job for his client.

it is smokescreen, will anyone bite?
Cause if you think Dolan will not step in, for a money maker like Lin, you are out of your mind.
Dolan, is willing to sacrifice 1 billions dollars, during Isiah's tenure here and slightly before (starting from the Ewing trade), after the taxes.
Rather than rebuild through the draft, waiting patiently to build a championship caliber team, and picking high prospect players that were needs in our positions.
Versus finding a player ready to contribute with much less upside, praying they will be the next KG with less development time.
(examples, Nene, Amare *on draft night*, Hibbert, Lopez, McGee, Lawson, Holiday, Jennings) vs Sweetney, Channing Frye, Jordan Hill, Nate Robinson

Like history suggest, he is willing to continue to stay in mediocrity, and trade all our hopes of being contenders for Melo, to fill those seats up, while diminishing the chemistry we were had and continue to build on, with draft picks, and salary cap.

Surprisingly, Lin, contributes much more in his 6weeks here than Melo has in his 18months here with much less of a salary.
There were billions of viewers from around the world, intrigued by Jeremy Lin, and caught the attention from people that never watched a basketball game a day in their life.
Advertisements, MSG stock prices, and Time Warner quickly settled on their deal with MSG, to catch on with Linsanity.

Billboards and advertisements were all willing to put chinese advertisements in the NBA games in which Lin and the Knicks, were playing in MSG and their competitors.
The media, the sports networks, and the entire world just couldn't get enough of this overnight underdog story.
The AsianLINsation, the story of a global phenom of Jeremy Lin, whether is just a hype, or not, is irrelevant.
The Linning will not stop Dolan at any costs, including the future of a ring for the New York Knicks, or the gamble from his recovery for the knee surgery.

So the value of what Jeremy Lin can earn from his contract, will be peanuts compared to the attention he will receive and $$$ he can generate.
It is a no brainer, for a business man like Dolan, they will only get richer, as he hopes this will continue for many years that Lin can be resigned for.
Therefore, Grunweld, earned every penny for his contract, as he just found another reason for viewers to pay high prices, during this "recession" for Dolan and MSG Network.

this is all posturing

So why allow MDA to resign..Clearly he would have been the best coach to highlight Lin's career..Why not trade everyone and build around Lin if it's all about marketing to the Asian community and China??

I'm sure there are 30 teams in the league that would offer him a contract now. The only question is how much it would be for. Some teams might offer only the LLE while a few others I suspect would offer the full MLE.

i dont think people should bash lin. As others have said all agents do this

The point is to get the highest amount for the knicks to match.

Get it, "create a market". When you do this you actually raise the price.

Denver did this with Melo. Create a market and bid it up. KNicks had to trump nets offer.

Just business.

Gravy Train?

If he stays decent yes. If he regress to his Golden State days then he will be Yi Jianlian status

Gravy train. That trail of money that comes from selling Chinese language adds on your court. Like the right field in the Hideki Matsui era with the yankees. LIke if the knicks can sell the broadcast to China and Taiwan.

That gravy train.

its not about basketball is it?

Lin if he does not pan out will have still returned a nice profit off his contract.

If he does not pan out on the court then we'll just suck and use it as a reason Melo was not able to win here.

Nets could just make a nice offer to force the knicks into a back ended contract. Imagine having to pay 12 mil to him in year 5?

The Russian can laugh as he did making dolan over pay for melo.

Don't get me wrong, the russian has yet to impress me other than playing chess with Dolan over melo.

Nets don't have anything on paper yet.

Part of the strategy is to get your opponent to commit or over commit.

I don't think the Nets are in a position to screw with the Knicks at this point...They have a new arena and need to field a team worthy of their new hometown...I'll like to see them offer Lin 12 mil in his 5th year and have to eat it...That will go a long way into opening their new stadium especailly if Lin doesn't pan out...

My point is the knicks will match nets.

so nets run up the bid.

That sounds more like Kahn but Walsh is gone so hopefully he won't spend every waking hour trying to acquire point guards the Knicks are targeting.

This is has to be the longest 15 minutes of fame in the history of sports

Swishfm3 wrote:This is has to be the longest 15 minutes of fame in the history of sports

Co-sign

Bye, hopefully you go to a team with out a point guard to compete with you, because we know how those comps go.

The Knicks can afford anything that another team is allowed to offer, and they should. Period. This is a non-story and it's posturing.

And my point is not even Dolan is crazy enough to match a contract paying Lin 12 mil in any year...Bo Outlaw 2.0

I don't think you realize how much money Jeremy Lin actually generates, those numbers are peanuts....
MSG the stock alone, will catch many investors attention, if people continue to watch BBALL because of him.

People that never watched basketball a day in their life, tuned on MSG to watch the Knicks play.
I am talking about grandmothers, mothers, sisters, everybody was going "ALL Lin" during the Linsanity stretch.

Impossible. Lin can only be offered up to the full MLE because that's all the Knicks have. Lin is shopping for a full MLE offer, will get one, and the Knicks will match. That's the only scenario that's realistic and possible because of the Gilbert Arenas provision.

The Los Angeles Lakers, or any team MDA is going to coach for. Knicks front office are too stupid to match anything and they probably don't give a damn if they lose Lin to another team.

I wouldn't be surprised if I hear about Lin ending up in another team for next season.

The Lakers, right...MDA was pushing the Knicks to trade Melo for Deron Williams after Linsanity...

And why is it bad to have both Dwill and Lin on the same team???? Some teams don't even have two valuable PG to go to.

Just means that MDA first choice for a PG might not be your first choice for a PG..
