Thats another story then. I pointed out that we are younger than any team left besides okc & the sixers and they arent getting past the ecf if they even get there. Indy is toast. You said we have just a few young players
Stephen A talking about Odom. This should be good

I said we are younger than most teams, which we are. And technically the only young, healthy players we have under contract right now are Toney Douglas, Jorts, and Jerome Jordan, who together play about 5 minutes a game.

You sound like what brought us:
Glen Rice
Vin Baker
Penny Hardaway
Jalen Rose
Antonio McDyess
Eddie House
Tracy McGrady
Baron Davis

Just leave Odom alone. Spend the money to get someone 8 years younger with real value and upside. That's all I'm saying. None of those other signings worked out.

Exactly; we had below average injury luck but that will continue to happen if we continue to get old players. It's a predictable outcome.
Those guys like penny, jalen, malik, mo taylor not only over the hill but severely over paid and acquired because in order to bring in "stars" like marbury and francis. We are talking about Odom coming here for $1.3mil. At 33 he can easily contribute for another 4-6yrs. He is not a player who relies on athleticism and is in pretty good shape.

Yes sir. More bench time for those guys. Look at SA and Boston. They have young guys who come in and get the bulk of the minutes, but enough veteran leadership to get the job done. Plenty of rest given to the vets when they need it and smart rotations. And from year to year they retain the core and teach the other guys how to fit into the system. Boston's crazy old, but hey, what Rivers and the organization is doing is working and they are still in the dance while we left and already passed out at a hotel party. (See: Hollins, Bradley, Stiesma, and swapping Davis for Bass)

You are not taking their contracts into account. Name as many players as you like other than Baron whi was damaged goods whuch one of those guys were acquired for the vet min? You guys areissing the point. We arent bringing in the odom of 5yrs ago. We are adding a veteran to tbe bench that knows how to play and compliments chandler, amare & melo. He is easily the best passer and rebounder & is second defensively only to Tyson and thats arguable

Forget that.
For the money, squeeze a few $$'s from somewhere and go get Lavoy Allen or Ryan Hollins. Each guy is unrestricted and made half a mil or less last year, are still in the playoffs and have LOTS OF UPSIDE.
I think whether we would want Odom on this team is more divisive on this board, than who we would vote for president of the US.

Gregg Popovich.

what youth do we have?
Melo, shump, lin, novak and amare & chandler will be only 30. You tell me what old over the hill superstara this team has?
This team has 3 years to win with the "big 3" in their prime. The other guys are role players who will not make a significant impact on this team when the skills of the aforementioned 3 begin to decline.

Tell that to kobe, kg, pierce & duncan. Even after Amare's contract comes off the books or is traded at the tail end. Melo & Tyson will still be relatively young. Especially Melo who will only be 30 or 31

Sorry mate. Don't think Melo and Kobe can be compared work ethic/conditioning/durability wise. Same with the rest. Melo needs to really show something to be included in that list. And reminder, all those guys got a ring at least once. Melo needs to earn his right to be included in that company career wise. I hope he does it in the orange and blue he started in, only time will tell (and his offseason workouts will tell a lot too).

At $3 mil a year Odom might be an outstanding deal. If we didn't have all our money tied up on you know who, we'd have the potential to get several steals. I'd love to have the ability to add Lin, Fields, Odom, and some other potential great bargains. But we don't. We have to pick one. I'm not convinced that Odom is *the* best choice.

But if you had 3 mill... would you really give it to Odom instead of going after a guy like Lavoy Allen or Ryan Hollins?
Am I that crazy that that doesn't make more sense for this team given it's history?

Why are you comparing any of those players to ours? All those players have had better careers than our "stars".
There is no way you can argue that we will have the same chances to win a title when our players are past their prime than what we do right now. Boston is doing alright but they're not winning it and I have doubts the Spurs will win it either. It's a young man's game and once you start getting past 31 you start feeling it on your body. Especially for guys who came out of high school like Chandler and Amare.

No but if I had several dozen mil (and we would without Melo and Amare), I would gladly give $3 mil to Odom.

Right. Which is why we need to leave his starstruck ass alone and let him get his legs back under him somewhere else. Let Orlando gamble on him.
