Knicks · Harden/Perkins and their 1st rounder (page 5)

This is not a versatility question. I don't care if he's eligible from PG to C on Yahoo Fantasy Sports. The question is he deserving of max contract status, usually given to elite all star caliber players, and the answer is obviously no. If you don't think he has been pure garbage at the most inopportune time of the season, then you have your rose tinted glasses on. Personally, I like his game, and think he's a perfect 2nd fiddle type, not a focal point type. You're the only one here putting him in Kobe and Wade's class, and that's pretty much best of the best territory. I'd give the edge to Joe Johnson too, given his career. Sure ISO Joe isn't clutch and can be a ball stopping hog, but to pretty much avg 20 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast on 45 FG% for the bulk of his career isn't anything to sneeze at. Let's see Harden do this as "the guy" for a couple seasons first, before we annoint him based on potential.

Young tier, just got off rookie contracts, still has ability to improve
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Westbrook
Harden
Rudy Gay
Bynum
Marc Gasol
--------------------

this is where I am putting Harden, with the ability to continue to improve, like the players here in which they all deserve the max contract due their age and potential.

Have you been watch the playoffs?? I'll rather keep what we have.

RonRon @ 6/22/2012 4:12 PM
whatever, lets 4get all our differences, opinions, and idea's of how to make this team better.
Cannot believe I am actually enjoying the day The Heat winning the Finals, basketball related.
Just enjoy and embrace our ability to retain and continue to acquire talent, hope is here if we have the MLE and LLE(not sure if have it if our MLE puts us over 73-74m) to use.
There are basketball Gods for us Knick Fans!
Will our core attract FA's to come at a discount? We shall see, Grunweld and scouts continue to do your magic....

Yeah, but Melo seems to score zero points every day

Harden had 2 good and 3 bad Finals games. The absurdity in judging someone from 3 games should be obvious.

yellowboy90 @ 6/22/2012 4:48 PM
He had two good games?
Killa4luv @ 6/22/2012 4:52 PM
Perkins is a waste of space and Harden isnt the answer for us. Hes not a PG. U dont give up Tyson for Perkins

Harden had 1 good game. Game 5 he had 19 pts after the game had been decided already in garbage time.

Games 2, 3, and 4, were very close, and honestly I still feel Lebron and Wade got many 50/50 calls as well as some BS calls.
Losing game 2 especially was tough, with this format of 2-3-2, it gives a huge advantage to the lower seed if they can steal one of the first 2 games.
Int the end, I cant just blame the refs, OKC did not execute and adjust to what Miami was doing to them offensively and defensively.
Maybe they just have to pay their dues, like Lebron has, and learn to utilize all of there players on the floor, and even on the bench.

they don't move well off the ball, rely too much on physical abilities, always forcing penetration, and were much too predictable to Miami's defense.
If you watch back the games, all players stay in the same spots in OKC once they do not have the ball.
Much like how the Knick's play when Melo goes ISO....
Rarely cuts, movement, picks set off the ball, and decoys/options to use.
Also, the Heat often look to get fouls, especially with Wade/Lebron, pump faking multiple times, and get fouls or and 1's.
They were much more aggressive, always putting Refs in a position to make a call as they were rewarded with many 50/50 calls and got away with many offensive fouls.

OKC just don't get the same calls as Lebron and Wade did, even when they do get fouled but, they do not initiate contact and would rather get a basket than getting a foul.
I think Durant, Westbrook, and Harden just do not get the same respect as Lebron and Wade does.

While Miami probes, is constantly moving off the ball to let all player touch the ball, and see how OKC will defend them.
This allows the role players, to get an idea how they will be defended, and even if they don't shoot it the first couple of times, they will be rhythm for the next one. They played off Lebron's ability to post up and penetrate with the 5 shooters on the floor, when a shot blocker helped.
However, they still continued to put players like Harden and even Sefalosha to defend Lebron on the post, while they would get eaten up without help.
You have to be able to try play man when there a 5 shooters like that, they gave confidence from game 2 on, allowing Heat's role players to grow, and believe with their support of the home crowd.

I bumped 2 threads that go in to detail about my post in Brigg's thread for trading Tyson Chandler, I apologize if I disturbed you in anyway, CrushAlot

Could you really see Harden and Melo co-existing?!

Harden choked big time vs the Heat in the playoffs- I shared this view point up until his play with the rockets proved me wrong.

By the way, I don't think I've seen chuckbuck on these boards in ages- what happened to him?

UncleBear @ 3/17/2013 10:00 PM
Uncle bear say

At this point I would trade the entire roster for Harden, no questions ask.

Prophetic Words. +1000000000000000

knickstorrents @ 3/18/2013 9:46 AM
We lose again
jrodmc @ 3/18/2013 11:49 AM
Maybe the Heat trade us Lebron, and then we could beeyatch and moan about how our max contract isn't as good as OKC's.

Oh how I wish we had drafted Bird instead of Michael Ray Richardson.

What do max contract players do that he does not?

be the focal point of their team and carry them through long stretches of the season.

Ding ding. Thank God it's not just me reading this James Harden = max and going WTF.
