Go look at the elite teams and their best scorers. Lebron average 53% this year and 50% in the playoffs.
Get it through your heads... we are not riding Melo's 45% to the promise land.
We need to establish high % scoring and Amare is a frontcourt guy who gives you over 50%
Yes he was hurt. Yes he had a bad year. Yes he needs to come back strong. I understand all that, but we are not improving by shipping him out for any of the donkees I see in these daily trade Amare threads.
Talk about his poor defense all you want. He's a 25/8 frontcourt player who scores at 54% for his career, and in his first year with Knicks showed he could do that without an MVP PG. He also led the NBA in 4th qtr scoring for much of that season. He's PROVEN he can win playoff series as the #1 scoring option.
You can rip apart all his shortcomings all you want, but go give me a list of guys who average 25/8 on more than 50%. Thats going to be a very short and small list. Thats because those players are very rare and scoring that volume at that % is a HUGE commoditiy.
If the Knicks are going to be elite we need good PG play, but we also need this guy back and being one of, if not THE primary scoring options. Melo is an amazing finisher. We will not be an elite team running the offense through Melo. We can be an elite team letting Melo finish every possesion that our high % frontcourt guys dont.
Its far more probably that this guy comes back healthy and returns to all star form than we get anything good for him in a trade.
Can Amare create his own shot??? Lebron can...
Thank u fish mike...well said...i think what weve realized is that stat is a DEPENDENT player...he cant create on his own...he neess a pg and hopefully lin is he answer
But i agree that we need to embrace stat...and melo

Amare's health has rendered him to be unreliable. No one doubts his abilities at all there is no doubt that his past performances are high level accomplishments. You keep harping on Melo but the last two playoffs it's been left on Melo shoulders. Is it Melo's fault that Amare was not honest about his back come the start of the season? Was it Melo's fault that he came in lugging 20lbs of extra weight. Can you imagine had Amare taken the cortisone shot in training camp he would have healed quicker and might have had a decent year.
Amare has to step it up and he knows it he is a workaholic. This team is only ging as far as Amare wants it to go because Melo we know shows up and does his thing. It's the supporting cast that has to come up big. It's been two years and we have experienced a damaged Amare in two straight playoffs.
Agree 100%, the Amar'e hate is getting so boring and ridiculous. He had a bad year- before that he had a good year. So why don't we see if he can turn it around? All these dumb proposals of trading him for terrible players with bad contracts- people do realise he's only got 3 more years on his deal don't they? That means after 2 seasons he's an expiring, so even if he can't get bounce back from last year, it's not the end of the world.
I hate the way Knick fans turn on players in a split second, with such venom. But then people did that with Ewing, and Alan Houston, and Camby etc etc, so it's nothing new.
It's funny how people forget the Knick record stretch of 9(?) 30 point games in a row the year before last.
The 2011-2012 season is a fluke with the condensed season & back to back to back games.
If he has a shitty season next year, then we can be concerned...after which there are only 2 years left anyway.
I'll hold off on an opinion until Jan 1st next yeatr.
I think this team can compete in the playoffs...the question is can this team as constructed win a championship.
The thing that bothers me about Amare is that he seems to have gone really soft. Seems more into being a SEEN NY celebrity then an elite NBA player. He was very out of shape at the start of the season and thats what really bothered me about him. All I ever see is Amare at some NY Fashion events wearing skinny jeans looking like a Hipster tool. Im hoping being labeled as a washed up player reinvigorates him to play better we shall see
i think you have to see how amar'e and melo and lin and tyson all look together over an extended period before deciding on amar'e. that's a varied and talented core. see how it works before making any decisions.
that said, amar'e would be extremely hard to move no matter what.
the only trade i've heard of him that is somewhat appealing is amar'e for joe johnson. though that would cap out the team for another year as joe's contract is worse than amar'e's

Yeah ... like those arses that turned on Melo? Or maybe that doesn't count.
Amare has played like crap for 1 1/2 of the 2 years we've had him.

Seemed like his first year after Nash was pretty solid no? I wouldnt call Felton and elite playmaker but Amare still put up big numbers and after a slow start got his FG% over 50%
For better or worse Amare is going to be a Knick. Hopefully he will use all of the negative things that have happened as motivation. I think working with Hakeen is a good start. Also Amare and Melo need to work together this offseason and develop some chemistry

Which coincides with the same amount of time we had a PG who know how to run the pick and roll....
Amare isnt going anywhere. He is untradeable based on his uninsured contract his poor play and health concerns. Hopefully he can get back to a level of play that will help the team.

your right.. it has been on Melo, and 10 years in the NBA we should relize that putting it on Melo's shoulders is a failing endeavor. I agree with you on that. Thats why we need to run the ball through the better scorers first. Also we need to improve the talent. Trading Amare for less talent doesnt accomplish that

So I think that we can all infer that Amare sux ass unless he is on a team that runs the pick and roll predominately. WONDERFUL! What a pity that he never worked on his arsenal so that he is not so one dimensional.
I think we just have to help he is 100% healthy and he plays like melon did when Woody came on board. If Stat can at least TRY to box out and defend, he is our best option to make a deep run

That's the fault of your buddy, James.

when that dimension gets you deep into the playoffs and has you as one of the league's best frontcourt scorers in the game you want to stick with what works.
I will take one dimensional if we are in the conference finals next year just fine.

Ah so if we revert to a one dimensional offense with our current roster we will probable be a perennial conference finals team, ay?
Since he was playing with the best PG at running the PNR of all time that means it should and must still work perfectly even without Nash.
But hey it worked with Felton for a bit when Amare flew out of the gates for his new team until he hit a brick wall.
Do you realize that his explosion has never been the same since the first half of last year? How about that his jump shot which was deadly is in Tahiti?
It's funny how you give him a pass for everything that he does. Hey he punch a glass thingy - so what you never got frustrated in your corp job and punched something? Well I am not a basketball player or a heart surgeon. Nobody cares if I tear up my hand and nobody is paying me 20 million a year to use them.
I guess that's why you have hated Melo so much. He takes away from Super AmarIO.
All that being said, I do think that Amare can benefit from a good PG since he can no longer create his own shot and has zero post game. So, if he comes in shape, does not punch anything, and has no family issues, we might get lucky.
