Sources: Nets could still get Howard
By Chris Broussard
ESPN.comThere is still a chance that Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard could become a member of the Brooklyn Nets, according to league sources.
The Nets and the Orlando Magic are discussing a trade that would send Howard to the Nets for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and the Nets' first-round picks in 2013, 2015 and 2017, sources said. Lopez and Humphries, who are both free agents, would go to Orlando in sign-and-trade deals.
The move would be the Nets' second blockbuster trade this week and give them a big three of Howard, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson that could rival the NBA champion Miami Heat's heralded trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
On Monday, the Nets agreed to terms with the Atlanta Hawks on a trade that sends Johnson to Brooklyn for the expiring contracts of Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams, plus DeShawn Stevenson and the 2013 first-round pick they acquired from Houston.
The Nets are still waiting on Williams to tell them whether he will re-sign with them as a free agent, but sources say Williams was pleased with the trade for Johnson, so he is expected to stay. An additional trade for Howard would undoubtedly seal the deal.
If consummated, the trade would give Howard what he has wanted for the past seven months. In December, Howard asked the Magic to trade him to the Nets.
After waiving his opt-out clause for next season in March, he again asked Orlando several times to trade him to the Nets, most recently last Friday in his first face-to-face meeting with new Magic GM Rob Hennigan.
On Monday, Howard told Yahoo! Sports that he would only sign a long-term contract with the Nets, but after the Nets' trade with Atlanta for Johnson, the chances of Howard going to Brooklyn appeared dead.
In fact, several executives involved in the talks privately said there was no chance of Howard being traded to the Nets.
But the two clubs eventually rekindled talks about a potential Howard trade.
"With the Nets thought to be out of the picture Monday night, the Los Angeles Lakers, who can offer Andrew Bynum, the Hawks, who can offer Al Horford and Jeff Teague, and the Dallas Mavericks, who could sign Howard as a free agent next summer, had emerged as the likeliest destinations for Howard."
Of course, any of those scenarios could still play out as the Magic are considering all their options.
A trio of Williams, Howard and Johnson would be a boon for the Nets as they open their first season in Brooklyn this fall.
The barometer of Starphucking, Dolan can't even touch...
U dont think that team is any good. Did U notice who won the NBA Championship this year. A team with stars
The "UBER LORD GOD OF ALL STARPHUCHS!"
All bow before it!
Whoa!
Do I think a trio of Howard, Johnson, and Williams is good? Yes. Would they win a championship next year? No. Would they win a championship for the duration of their time in Brooklyn, I personally don't think so. Not enough parts around them. Even Miami need their Chalmers, Millers, Battiers, and Coles to step up for them to win it all, Nets would have a bunch of Vet mins around them, they would have no depth.
I do that trade if I'm Orlando. As for the Nets, better hope each of those guys can play 35+ unless they get guys like Kidd to sign for LLE or vet min.
Damn that is scary as a Knicks fan.....

Why? If there's anyone that knows how to play Dwight straight up it's Tyson Chandler. Dwight posted 8, 12, and 8 points against Tyson and the Knicks last year. Would really have to worry about only Deron or Joe Johnson. That's where Iman's injury comes into play. Knicks would have a decided advantage at the 3 and 4 with Melo and Stat.

You know what I say: f'ing bring it.
I'd still be more concerned with stopping Lebron
I think two of those games were when Dwight was hurt and/or in the middle of medieval storm and wasn't playing hard. Johnson is very close to melo and d will is a beast.
If we get Nash ... I will feel better
I gotta admit it would be a sad day if the Nets gets done in their first year in New York what we've been trying to do for over 40yrs in the center of the universe midtown manhattan. A place that should be drawing the best talent in the world. Shame our owner is Jimmy Dolan. Frickin mindboggling

Same things, to some degree, were said about the Miami big three. Next job would be for the Nyet's management to get the pieces. You're not thinking that they won't pick up some pieces, and with this big 3 you would have a lot of guys wanting to play with this team.
The Howard, Johnson, Williams is probably better than our 3 of Chandler, Amare, and Anthony, IMO, because they each have different things they can bring to the table. Johnson can be a ball handling/distributing SG when needed, but I don't think he would have any problem deferring to Williams, and they would not be getting in each other's way like Amare and Anthony do. Williams can also play the SG position. Everyone knows where Howard hangs out on the court, and if motivated and injury free, the guy is going to have some major reasons to get things together again. Throw in a player like Wallace, who is a fierce competitor and a glue guy, and you have a pretty good core to work with.
Not saying they are going to win a title next year, but you have a 3-5 year window of opportunity to achieve an NBA crown. I think they would have a better chance, barring injuries, of competing against the Heat than we will.
It is also a good move for Orlando. Lopez and Brooks are both young, and can be foundation blocks for a good team. Humphries is more than adequate as a PF, and the 3 #1s are added gravy, even though you would think that they will be in the mid to high 20s each year.

Well them maybe they can take out Miami for us because are team isnt beating them. Dwight Howard clogging the paint and Wallace guarding the wing is as good as a answer for the Heat as ive seen. Better then what we can throw at them. I think u are underestimating them. They would have those 4 plus the MLE and the LLE.Probably wouldnt win next year but the year after they would be at the least 2nd best in the East
I dont see how u can build a team without Stars that will win in todays NBA without an extreme amount of Luck that u cant plan for. The Bulls got Derrick Rose by a sheer fluke of the balls bouncing their way. Tim Duncan fell into the Spurs lap after an injury to Robinson. OKC built a team through the draft but used many high picks to do it and were fortunate the Blazers took Oden. Had the Blazers taken Durant OKC would of been an 8th seed at best an more likely wouldnt of been in the playoffs
If this goes down the Nets would have accomplished what many of us had hoped for years that we would get under the cap, draft well and sign big time free agents. Instead we signed Amare, traded the team for Melo and wasted 4yrs with a head coach that wasn't cut out for NY
Much improved team if his happens, but they still wont compete for a championship if this happens. I wont be dissapointed if this occurs.
I'd enjoy it just for the sheer entertainment purposes. What a bloodthirsty rivalry this could become.
I actually want it to go down. It'd be the most brutal 4 games a season for the Knicks and Nets. Each game would be a playoff type game for city bragging rights. Since when has the Knicks and Nets had contending teams both at the same time?

I think the Nets thriving is great news. It would force Dolan to actually build a legit team or get rid of the Knicks. It also gives us another NY option (dare I say it!)!

Really U dont think a roster starting like this for example this year could compete for a championship
in another year OR 2.
Dwight Howard
Kenyon Martin
Gerald Wallace
Joe Johnson
Deron Williams
Kidd

You do know Howard just had back surgery, Joe Johnson is 31 and gradually declining, Gerald Wallace has yet to play a full 82 games, Jason Kidd is 39 and ready for retirement, K-Mart is 34 and one knee injury away from ending his career right?
