Tried to read the previous 4-5 pages and couldn't find any topics on this so please don't lock me again because there were no topics regarding dumping Amar'e to retain Lin (locked because it sounded negative? if so, I promise I won't say anything negative as I saw others locked as well for being negative about our team). I just want to know the possibilities of the scenario and I cannot find it. I also don't have patience to look back more than I did (4-5) and I don't know how to search for topics here. Thanks.

It's not the negativity: There is no need to dump Amare to retain Lin.

Ok. So you're saying there's 100% we will keep Amar'e, Carmelo, Tyson and Jeremy for next year? I'm just curious how you're so confident in that, like many other fans on this forum. All I read on other newsletters are that Lin is actually thinking about this (why would he if Dolan will guarantee to match any offer?)

Dude where have you been the last 6 or so months.
Lin is a RFA, so the Knicks can match anything. Lin also just showed the Knicks how he can both play and bring in $$$ for the team via marketability.
Also, did you notice how the Knicks don't have ANY PGs on the team right now? They are in a corner and HAVE to match.

I guess you got a good point. Dolan will match anything. Houston is just the beginning. I wonder if any other teams are going to jump on the 'poisoning the Knicks' pill wagon. Guess we'll see.
Amare is expensive player on decline with questionable health uninsured and lately mentally unstable.
This all translates as untradable.

It would be interesting to do a poll on what people would rather have for $44 mil next year: Amare and Melo or 6 to 7 very solid players at the Lin/Terry level plus all the picks we gave up to get Melo.

you realize that only 5 guys can be on the floor at once in the nba.
if you had that many very solid players and picks... you'd want to package them for a star.

So many people seem intent on rebuilding the Scott Layden Knicks.

Yeah, only five play at once. Therefore, it would be tragic to have more than five good players. I would have no problem packaging them for *legit* stars though or holding onto them until the right legit deal came along.

McDyess, Allan Houston? Layden was a starphucker too just not as bad as post-Layden.

Tyson Chandler
Carmelo Anthony
Amar'e Stoudemire
Jeremy Lin
Iman Shumpert
Raymond Felton
and the potential to bring in another with the $3M mle.
not to mention JR Smith and Steve Novak aren't exactly chopped liver.

Yeah, to the casual fan we've looked awesome on paper almost all century.

yeah, Howard Eisley, Shandon Anderson, Clarence Weatherspoon, Kurt Thomas... all those guys were really good and all won defensive player of the year, had multiple all-star appearances, all were invited to join the Olympic team. you're right. how can i argue with you.

Sure, in retrospect that was about as laughable as $100 mil for a 75 year old Amare is. If you've paid close attention you'll recall in the prediction threads most people consistently overestimated the team's wins by 10 to 15 games. On paper at the time to most the team did look very good.

That's ok man. Bonn thinks any roster is garbage unless it has LeBron James on it. He also says the Oakland A's made it to the World Series in the moneyball era. Hard to argue with him.

Only an idiot would make judgments on player reputation, sabermetrics and not actually watching games. I hope you're not an idiot and actually watch games.

This group is not bad but... all of them have buts attached to them.
Tyson Chandler - no offensive game
Carmelo Anthony - no team game
Amar'e Stoudemire - no game
Jeremy Lin - not proven commodity
Iman Shumpert - no health and may be no knees
Raymond Felton - to much fat
JR Smith - no brain
Steve Novak - no ability to make his own shot and no defense
Woody - no idea about NBA offense
So to have success with this group they all need to overachieve and play together team ball...
So they can go from very bad to world beaters but most likely will stay mediocre.
I hope I am wrong...
