Lin gets to practice against his idol and Kidd stays near his home in the NY metro area.
Teams won't have to guard (Kidd) but will, and he'll just pinpoint with passes while taking advantage of the fact that teams will continue to overreact and treat him as a major threat from behind the 3-point arc. It's a simple, staid offense that will be run by a man with a brain that demands complexity and improvisation and quick movement, though his weary legs guarantee that this brain has to play down to his team's offense. - Kelly Dwyer
So, where does this leave the Knicks? Well, it leaves them maintaining. Their roster right now (assuming all this goes through the way it has been reported; there's supposedly a "moratorium" on deals this week, so nothing will be official until July 11): - Wil Leitch
Lin can play his frenetic style for 30 minutes and Kidd brings solid relief with 18 minutes of coaching and clutch plays. This combination works better than a Nash deal because Kidd rebounds and bonded with Chandler in Dallas. Jason Kidd makes life easier for our number one son - Carmelo Anthony is relieved of extended ball handling responsibility.
Guards Jason Kidd Jeremy Lin Iman Shumpert Toney Douglas (if Houston is desperate for guards...)
Forwards Carmelo Anthony Amar'e Stoudemire James White (Kostas Papanikolaou) Steve Novak
Centers Tyson Chandler Josh Harrellson Jerome Jordan/ Summer League discovery Dan Gadzuric

for the most part, we can only really offer him $2.8M. The one advantage we have is that if he stays with Knicks he will get his Bird Rights.

Perfect situation for Lin to develop, and you don't have a PG controversy/competition because Kidd's minutes on the court will be limited, I would assume.
Lin is a smart kid, and he now has one of the best and most savvy PGs of this generation to learn from. Kidd may not be able to do all the things on the court that he once could do, but what he can impart to Lin as a mentor is beyond statistical measurement.
misterearl@ 7/6/2012 1:28 PM
Jason Kidd is a better fit for the Knicks than Steve Nash
Kidd came within one point of a triple-double earlier this month, when he had 10 rebounds and 12 assists in a win over the Golden State Warriors. His 107 career triple-doubles rank behind only Oscar Robertson and Magic Johnson in NBA history and are more than the combined total of the next four active triple-double leaders (LeBron James, Grant Hill, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett).
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kidd's 17 consecutive seasons with a triple-double is by far the longest such streak in NBA history. Next on that list: Johnson (12), Robertson (11), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (10) and Larry Bird (9).
Nash can make fancy passes, but he does not rebound the ball or defend like Kidd.
You want Jeremy Lin to develop? You get him the best professor.
Jason Kidd is durable and rugged... and will look better inorange and blue than Nash.
misterearl@ 7/6/2012 1:38 PM
Sure, Steve Nash plays soccer in Central Park during the summer and has more favorable press but...
Note: As of April 2011 Jason Kidd had 107 triple doubles.
Steve Nash had three.
You do the math

they're bringing back JR Smith and maybe adding Foye.
might also add Camby if they can make the Kidd deal a S&T.
i'd bring back jeffries at the 4/5 too.

DJ - If the salaries of Toney Douglas and Dan Gadzuric can be leveraged in a sign-and-trade scenario, Glen Grunwald has a head start on NBA Executive of The Year.
Guards Jason Obewon Kidd Luke Skywalker Lin Iman Shumpert (back by Valentines Day, hopefully) JR Smith - for defense Chris Smith - or a Summer League discovery du jour Pablo Prigioni, Argentina, longshot, but hey, crazier things have happened

Somebody sounds a little bitter toward Nash not coming to Knicks. You wouldn't be singing the same tune if Nash had signed up with New York.
Nash-Lin is a match made in heaven. Lin is cut from the same cloth as Nash, although he's not there on Nash level but he's clearly one of his pupil if I ever saw one. And Nash likes Lin. He had some nice things to say about Lin.

Syniko wrote:Somebody sounds a little bitter toward Nash not coming to Knicks. You wouldn't be singing the same tune if Nash had signed up with New York.
Syniko - bitter toward Nash not coming to NYC? Never. Besides, The Answer Man never fell for the hype about his midtown apartment and loving the city anyway. The Answer Man simply makes the best of what is. Jason Kidd is what is. If Steve Nash had signed with our beloved Knicks it would be a marvelous day to celebrate his portfolio and tutoring Jeremy Lin. But he is a Laker which means he is the enemy, ergo... he ain't a New York Knick, so he gets dissed. He runs with Kobe and Bynum. He must be stopped.
On the other hand, Jason Kidd is the greatest thing since Maurice Cheeks, who helped us defeat the Celtics IN Boston by the way. See how it works?

I know the Knicks gave James White guaranteed money, but that doesn't guarantee him a roster spot. He still needs to earn that.

What Carmelo Really Meant (Guarantee: All Dialogue reported Verbatim)
What Carmelo Said: “I like Jason Kidd. I’m pretty sure I’ll talk to him the next couple of days.”
What Really Happened: I called Jason while he was playing golf Thursday and told him he could go quietly and retire or have some fun in The World's Most Famous Arena. He did the math”
What Carmelo Said: “It takes a lot of pressure off me to try to do everything, I can pick my spots, and Amar’e can pick his spots.”
What Carmelo Felt In His Heart: We are going to have a blast.
What Carmelo Said:“He is a guy who can get everybody involved, I don’t have to do too much ball handling. Right now, my mind-set is to start working off the ball a lot more.”
What Carmelo Meant: “I’m getting accustomed to playing with Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul on the United States national team, last I checked Mike Bibby was not here. Jason will be a refreshing segue”
