Knicks · Amare says he wants to bring a championship to NY (page 3)

He's making $20 mil a year. He couldn't find any doctors and physical therapists to work with him last summer?
Come on now Bonn! You know that he had medical help last summer. The most common suggested plan is to rest and have therapy for a disc problem before you seek any surgical or other methods to work on the problem. Once he was cleared to actually do BB related work he did. The thing is that he finally went with the Epidural Injection which did seem to work.
He now knows what that is like and I believe he'll be more likely to try it if his back acts up again. It's a faster turn around than Surgery and for minor issues like his can be very effective for him to be able to perform. If you've ever had back issues you know that it's very debilitating and everything you do is limited. Once he got the injection tho STAT had a spring in his step and that's good to see.
But hey Melo is the root of the problem right?!

OK, I misunderstood what you meant when you said he "wasn't able to do his normal summer work." I thought you meant he had no access to help because of the lockout.

good post. i think amar'e will be better on the floor this season... but i've also lost a lot of faith in him as a team leader or even as a team player.
Hey Chuckbuck... Amare is 18 months older than Melo. The guy is an elite player his whole career and has one off year and people want him gone, meanwhile the same guys ride the jock of our other star who 1) quit and addmitted to quitting on his coach and team 2) hasnt changed the winning % of the roster 3) is a 46% career scorer (pedestrian) vs. a 54% career scorer (elite)
I love how people cry about loyalty and players should take less money etc, then when a guy who's been a stud his whole career has an off year they want him waived, amnestied, taken out back... you get the idea. Boy the internet brings out the best in everyone.

You realize that all the excuses people give - brother dying, inability to work out last summer - do NOT correspond with the timing of the deterioration of his game. The deterioration started in the middle of the 2010-11 season.

it started A) after D'Antoni played him too many minutes in the beginning of that season (he had what 9 straight games of 30pts or more?) and B) after Melo showed up... who Amar'e doesn't really fit with on the floor.
gunsnewing wrote:The point about Amare driving and meeting 2+ defenders in the paint is a fair one because Tyson is in the paint. Camby can step out and clear the lane for Amare. Should be interesting how this comes together. Hopefully Amare & Tyson refine their games. If Tyson somehow develops a 15ft jumper after a decade in the league although it is as unlikely as STAT learning Defense and post moves, the Knicks will be alright. Worst case Camby starts and Tyson backs him up.the problem is simple. One guy scores 25ppg at 54%. The other scores 25ppg at 46%. Who do you want to feature on offense? This is not a trick question.
But hey Melo is the root of the problem right?!
By the way, when Amare played next to Shaq (cause that guy doesnt clog the lane) he put up 21ppg 8rebs and shot 54%
Wake up people.

Hey Fishmike. Let's forget about 2011-2012 for a second. Picture this for a second. 2011 Playoffs Game 2. Routine warm ups. Layup line. Anybody who's played varsity or even pickup games does this to get warmed up for a game. NBA players dunk all the time on the layup line. Even some of the more athletic PG's dunk. Now you got a 6'10(6'11 now??) athletic beast of a basketball player doing the layup line doing a routine dunk. OUCH. BACK SPASM CITY!!! Pretty much dunzo for the playoffs. This doesn't alarm you or raise any red flags in your book? Let's be honest here. The guy is put together with elmer's glue and could break any second. He got bad eyes, bad back, bad knees, bad hands, bad taste in clothing....we as Knicks are just hoping that he can remain healthy for stretches. Forget about being the 25/8/54 FG% guy you state in every thread, we as Knicks are hoping he help contribute to some wins instead for some decent return on investment on this insane Albatross contract!

And Melo still looks fat, and Stat is still saying and doing stupid things! And our team s-u-c-k-s sucks sucks sucks.
Wow I hate Knick fans sometimes my God
I hate people who don't get hate sarcasm. Hatefully, in hate-ish, hate-y kind of way.

why would it alarm me? Have you ever had back spasms? It happens. I pitched hardball for 10 years. Once before a game I had back spasms. All I could do for 3 hours was lay on the ground. I thought I broke my back. 2 weeks like I pitched 25 innings in one weekend we had a 4 game tourney. It happens. Like sprained ankles.
Im sure you would happily trade Amare and Chandler for Dwight Howard right? A guy who's back was actually broken and without his elite athleticism is about as skilled as Nazr Mohammed.
2nd half of last year: Amare averaged 54% FGs. After coming back in April for 4 games he shot like 56% or something.
I quote that # over and over because it matters.

Believe it or not, I'm actually opposed to Amare-Tyson for Dwight. Dwight is a very good center, just don't think he has that dominant and refined a post game as the greats. Doesn't contain the intangibles or the heart of the champion like Shaq or Duncan either.

What? Post all-star was 49%, April reg season was 43%, and April playoffs was 38%.

positives to take out of that are: maybe either amar'e is playing better under woodson or he's finally healing from the back injury
also, his FG percentage in 11-12 before Lin emerged was about 42%.
after Lin emerged, despite Amar'e being injured a fair amount, it was over 55%. (and as Fish mentions, the death of his brother, which i cannot imagine playing or working thru)
amar'e MIGHT just need a good PG. luckily we now have 2.
his post-all-star dip in 10-11 could also be connected to Felton being traded away. Chauncey and Toney were not penetrating PGs.
Lin definitely is a penetrating PG. Prigioni seems to be. Kidd seems to get guys the ball in the right spots.

I hear you, Mike. But I also watched the games. Stat ain't no damn excuse maker. Yes, it stung to lose his brother the way he did. Yes he was injured. But what I watched on defense made me bitter toward Stat because he clearly didn't try at all. He just let it go.
If you are a Knickerbocker and you can't bring it every game, sit your grieving ass down and let someone else get it done. We are in this to win, not to sob. I sympathize with his issues and I wish him the best. But I EXPECT him to show up on the wood and do what he's paid to do. If he can't, that's a bummer but it doesn't change anything.
No Excuses. Life doesn't stop for sports or for any of us. You gotta be able to roll with it come what may. It's tough sometimes, but men don't sit around and feel sorry for themselves. They deal. And Stat is a man, or so I assume.
Amar'e averaged 18ppg 8.2rebs 1.1blks on 56% shooting. he took 12 shots a game and scored 18points.
reason to have hope for the Amar'e/Lin pairing.

I do think he can be a positive contribtor on the offensive end if he stays healthy and has a good PG. I agree with the basic claim that we're much better off with Amare than Melo taking shots. Melo takes about 19 shots a game with about 6 or 7 being low quality shots. I'd much rather see him take 13 or 14 high quality shots.
