well his first 2 years are fine, but his 3rd year at 15m is a max players salary.
If he continues his Linsanity saga, he could be following in Gilbert Areana's footsteps, as a 2nd round pick, breaking the possibility of making more many than a 1st round pick, and all in a shorter amount of time. That 3rd year, makes his trade value a lot lower, if he does not lead to W's or/and does not put up major stats. Not many players would be making more money than him in 2015 that are not legit "all stars"
Have to think about it from a business point of view, that one year is going to cost 45m or so, just for Lin, not including any salary we would be adding, 2 years of possible min MLE, a resigned JR Smith, and our next year 1st round pick. Even if Dolan has a lot of $, that contract hurts his trade value, because NOT MANY owners are willing to pay much tax.

Without receiving the contract offer from Houston, Morey continues to play mental games with us. Some reporters say we actually paid 3m for the Camby trade.

So we give up 3m, Jorts, Jordan, TD, and 2 2nd round picks. Which he cuts Jordan/Jort's but demands for both of them to be in it, with our 3m, 2 2nd picks, just so we can have no flexibility to make more moves.
Considering Camby was going to leave for NOTHING, he got a lot out of the trade, and we payed an extreme high price, the 3m cash limits another year for us to not being able to purchase picks, and have less flexibility moving forward. What a PRICK.....

You talking about Dolan being a prick?

There are more important things than stressing over one year of a contract. If Dolan didn't want this to happen, he would have made Lin an offer.

For everyone talking out their @ss, Bonn, you especially, about the Knicks making lin an offer, the most the Knicks could offer.was 5 mil per year for 3 years, period. That is the Max you can offer restricted free agents. The Knicks did lin a favor and said- go get a reasonable deal and we will match it.

Exactly- there is no way Lin's agent would have agreed to our offer when it could legally only be far less than what an outside team could offer him. One lazy journalist tried to stir up trouble by saying we refused to offer Lin a contract and he was insulted by this- but it's absolute c***- he wouldn't of agreed to it, in fact his agent probably told Grunwald that they would go out and find market value first. I don't think Lin even wanted to come back, to be honest.

FOR THE TRILLIONTH TIME - The point of Knicks offering a contract was showing Lin that we wanted him to stay. Everyone exoects him to find a better ione that we would then match. The way we did it we told Lin we didn't hink he was even worth $15M for three years by refusing to offer him that and we were beetting the market wouldnt give him as much. Now Grunwald looks like and idiot and everyone wants revenge on Lin. This is not a very complicated idea, for most people. As for the rest of you....eh whatever.

What are we children here??..We have to show Lin he is wanted??..It's a business, tell Lin get over it..

Aye aye LOLfresh, sir yes sir!!

When you are able to show someone you care about having them back and it would cost you nothing, most people choose to do that as a sign of goodwill. Again it's a simple concept for MOST people.

We have no idea what was happening behind the scenes..But for me, it is very difficult for me to see the Knicks and Lin not coming to terms if Lin wanted to be here...I honestly believe he wants his own stage...The Knicks can't be handcuffed by one dude..Onward..

If $25 mil with one high year for Lin is crippling, I can't even imagine what adjective would be needed to describe $200 mil to Amare and Melo.

Crippling in terms of, as you say we only had a small sample size of Lin, and it unclear whether he can play up to the level of that last year of the contract (15 mil in yr 3) Because of that last year, it'd be damn near in impossible to move the contract in a trade.

Yes

Exactly. Match and move him on dec 15th

It'd be funny if this was a smokescreen and Knicks did

Either way, easy come, easy go. Good riddance lin

helloharv wrote:Steven A Smith said it is a done deal ..... We aren't matching Fuck

Don't be fooled man. Knicks are notoriously tight-lipped and you believe that within 12 hours of receiving Lin's paperwork they have both made a decision and started to leak it to SAS?

I don't.

I do believe they are genuinely mad at Lin because that came early. What I think is that they are creating a storm just to get more press when they match Lin offer. They want to quite the Nets and play the media game. They also want to teach Lin a lesson.

Usually when guys get $$$da money they sux right afterwards

whole league goin to be gunning at J Lin regardless if in NY or Hous

Pl_ck SAS

As mad as Knicks are in J. Lin if really true they'd make a public statement today or mon.
prior to the tues. deadline they are not signing /matching J.Lin Houston deal

Thus the livid Knicks the longer it goes on to Tues the better for us
a chance they'd sign him , play him get or rise his stock and deal him in Jan.2013
is my guess full $$$ and all

Its a way Knicks can keep status quo later on without lot of pie on their faces
agree ?

right correct
As I said on other post the Knicks/owner mad as hell with Lin/agent
if this is case they'd make public comment they wont match 'prior' to tues deadline

Fact NY isnt rushing into that remark though pi_ssed then there is a chance
so agree w/martin

going down to 12th or 24th hr, make em' sweat
GO KNICKS

I cannot see why we would sign him now with the idea of trading him in January, since anything can happen, including injury, poor play because of: 1) our system or 2) the fact that teams are now ready for him, or whatever. You sign him if you want to give him a starter's minutes, not because you think you can trade him.

Howard Beck ‏@HowardBeckNYT
MT @rodboone Asked Melo if Knicks would be OK at PG with Kidd & Felton: "I mean, what other point guards are we going to get at this point?"

Rod Boone ‏@rodboone
Melo on assumption Lin would return: "I think a lot of people kind of jumped the gun with that, that he’s going to be back no matter what."

How much say do you think Melo has in moves? STAT?
I guess if Kupchak was allowed to ignore Kobe's request to trade Bynum maybe GMs ignore players.

Will the Knicks always be a drama filled circus? Is that the NY Media's doing or just James Dolan?

This is what seemed to have happened, yet nobody wants to talk about this point. It seems to me that if Lin really wanted to be here, he would have signed the first contract or signed for 2 years. That 15 mil for the 3rd year (which Steven A Smith says is really 30 mil for the 3rd) could have been made up in endorsements easily for Lin in NYC.

I think Lin really wanted the most $ he could get

OR

He saw what a mess the Knicks front office in general was after the MDA situation.

Maybe there's still all kind of resentment between the MDA camp (Lin, STAT) and Melo and Lin didn't want to be a part of that esp. after Daryl Morey showed him what a well run organization looks like. Morey went to MIT. Lin went to Stanford. Perhaps they had better conversations than anyone in the Knicks FO did. Y'all remember STAT making thinly veiled references on the need to move the ball (aka Melo stop isoing the shot clock away) and STATs reaction after MDA was fired. Lin's reaction after MDA was fired.

Obviously all just conjecture.

Maybe we're better off with Felton anyway. Bah

No sane person turns down a guaranteed $15m in the 3rd year just cause they really really want to be in NY, that makes no sense.
