Wondering if Lin would have accepted this in the beginning. His agent may have told him to test the free agent waters anyway.

Word. It's this reaction that is probably driving Lin away. At this point maybe he's better off somewhere else where the fans will appreciate him more. He fucking revitalized this franchise and gave the fans more than anyone else for the last decade. This sucks if he isn't a Knick next year, even if he fizzled out.
wow dude it was a two-week stretch.. dude didn't even play in the playoffs. and let's not forget LIN IS THE ONE WHO SIGNED THE OFFER SHEET WITH THE ROCKETS, which included the poison pill yr3 making it nearly impossible for the knicks to match.
i like lin, i think he can be a pretty good player, but let's not act like we are letting lebron walk here. if you ask me, the book on lin is still wide-open and he has alot to prove in this league.
also: i will be happy if we are matching, i think the felton/kidd/lin pg combo can work great and accentuate each players strengths.
So you are exactly who I'm talking about, typical cynical Knicks fan who knows too much, thinks too much like a GM and not enough like a fan. And I'm calling myself out here too, because I've been like that as well. BUT, Do you remember watching those games during Linsanity? How do you let that kid go? He single-handedly resparked the love of NY Knick basketball in this city. I was working with kids at the time, and to see them talk about the Knicks, bring in basketballs, bring in the NY post for me to read and get excited about, it was something else. I mean, if we get a ring with Kidd/Felton, AWESOME, but if we don't, and this doesn't work, a lot of NYers are gonna become Nets fans and say fuck this team once and for all.

OK....what about Clyde? No respect for Clyde either?

Part of being a good point guard is maximizing the talents and honing in on the skills of your teammates, and Felton has been doing just that. While one would argue he’s been Nash-esque while guiding Amar’e Stoudemire towards a MVP trophy, Knicks Hall of Fame point guard Walt “Clyde” Frazier claims Felton is playing…well, “Frazier-like.”
By any scale, Felton has been excellent. In addition to finally finding good chemistry with Stoudemire, he has also been an excellent backcourt mate for Fields, who has also found a nice flow into the Knicks’ offense.
As for Felton’s effect on the two holdovers? After being assigned to the bench to start the season, Chandler has found his shot on offense, often waiting in the corner for clutch three-point shots off passes from Felton. The Knicks’ point guard is able to drive to the lane more effectively than any point guard Chandler has played with in his young career. This means as soon as Felton draws a double team, he can dish the ball out to an open Chandler, who has been increasingly more confident taking the big shot.

Houston drove up Lin's price, now they have to pay for it. Touche Houston!Felton may end up outplaying Lin over the next few years. And at $10 million over 3 years he's a bargain. I loved what Lin did in New York, but I think this move makes a lot of sense.
Felton will NEVER outplay Lin, not consistently.
Felton is the Hizzee big babay!!!!

I LOVED LINSANITY... but, that shipped sailed when Melo came back and the reality of trying to mesh the 2 styles was evident that Woody wanted to go more with a Melo Centric offense. Yeah I know Lin had some good games when he played with Melo before he went down, but it wasn't meant to last. Woody wanted a more STAT and Melo centered offense and If that's the case then they don't need Lin for that style to work. This is why adding Kidd was such a huge move. I think they felt that even Nash would've been able to thrive in a Melo Centric style given his experience in the league. I don't know if they felt as comfortable with Lin and then when you add in that HUGE 3rd year cap hit... That may have sealed it. I'll be shocked if they keep Lin. Shocked and happy, but I don't think so.

Yes, you are correct. He is as fat as Big Baby Davis.

How can you tell in 26 games? I really don't know what Lin can do. Only time will tell.

Well now the pressure is really on melo. It could be a good thhing since it was a similar situation for lebron even though lebron is a much betetr player. I tell you if this team goes out in teh firs round again next year then i dont know what to say anymore

It's not about Felton..Its about Amare..Key to the Knicks is getting Amare his looks...Felton/Kid will do that for sure...I want Lin back too, but think he looks for his own shot first...
I think Nix hit it on the head. Lin appears to be good as gone. Seriously, if we sign Lin, we will have 4 pg's. I would love to have him back, but that contract will hinder us in the future.

Yes...and thats why Lin is not a championship type PG right now for this team, as long as Melo and Stat here. Especially not for 25 mil. I love Lin and I hope they match, but I still like the other moves they made with Kidd and Felton.
We need a pg who can hit some shots play tough d and who can get the ball to Amare and Melo, Felton is a great choice, Lin is a shoot first point guard and he has no defense , He thrived under Dantoni where he was allowed to do whatever he wanted. Felton played under Larry Brown in the slow it down half court offense and helped take a bad team to the playoffs with the Bobcats , I have no doubt he will excel under Woodson considering he was trained by Brown and has a similar philosophy of how the game should be played . He's not gonna put up big numbers but he will play his role and play hard.

Most revisionist history of all time.
Felton is just as bad as a defender. In fact, he was run out of Charlotte by LArry Brown for being overweight and a bad defender. He didn't lead anyone to anything.
Speaking of D'Antoni's system, no player thrived under that more than Felton. Guy from mediocre to All-star in that half-season he was here and now he's back to mediocre. He wasn't "trained" by Brown. Biggest lie I've ever read yet.

Yeah that third year turns into 57 mil with the luxury tax. Does lin's deal hinder Houston's pursuit of d12?

I knew there was a reason I never changed my moniker or site name! I agree that Felton is a good fit but we should still match Lin and not let him go for nothing. If the rumor I heard is correct and we can find a way to trade Lin for something of value from Houston than that is a more acceptable option than just letting him walk. Either way having Felton back on board can do nothing but help.

any rumor you heard about the Knicks matching on Lin and then trading him to Houston is wrong. Knicks cannot sign and trade with Houston now that the offer sheet is signed. Knicks, if they match Lin, could not trade him to Houston for a year.
(which, frankly, I think the Knicks should match and trade him to Houston in a year)

Trade him in a year?
If he is a bust, houston won't touch him. If he is not, NY will never part with him.

Thank you. Felton's style of play doesn't fit into a slow-it-down, grind-it-out offense at all. For that matter, neither does Amare's. Felton had, by far, the best stretch of his career while playing under MDA and has been mediocre at best the rest of the time. And as for his playoff experience, his made it there twice and played a total of 9 games. Of course, in the playoffs play tends to slow down so, since he was trained under Larry Brown, he should have played well. In those 9 games he put up 12 pts, 4.6 assists, and 1 steal while shooting 38% on fg and 27% on 3fg.
