Knicks · Poll: With Kidd and Felton in hand do the Knicks match Lin? (page 1)

Felton didnt like coming off the bench in Denver or Portland. He just turned 28 too.

If he's traded, it's not like he has a say in whether he starts or not.

I really feel like we're not going to match.

Its a sign and trade. He was a UFA.

I feel that Woody was not really that high on Lin all along and this was a very calculated move by the Knicks. I think they wanted a more seasoned PG that they could trust and that Woody never really trusted Lin. I think that Woody is an old school ball control coach like his mentor Larry Brown. You could see how he coached the team that he feels more comfortable playing that way and Lin is better in fast paced open style. A high TO style of game is just not something Woody is gonna feel comfortable with, so I think this is much more of what he wanted.

People think Felton is that kind of PG, but really Felton played for Brown and i'm sure he got input from Brown about Felton playing a more ball controlled offense. With Melo coming in and MDA going out this was inevitable. When they added Woody this was in the works since day one. They never had any intention of bringing back MDA. This is Melo's team and they are going all in with a Ball Control style and tough D. It's a formula that they all feel more comfortable with and has been proven to win.

What coach is comfortable with high TO's. Come on man.

I dont see Felton having issues playing more under control is we are winning.

I think Felton actually played his best ball with a fast paced game though, with shooters to spread him out, so he can penetrate.

Unfortunately I think we've seen the last of Lin. That whole business of Grunwald avoiding the courier bringing the signed offer sheet... Maybe he planned on holding off until this deal was done then asking HOuston to do a trade for Courtney Lee and a PF, maybe an offer sheet isn't officially binding until the opposing Gm receives it. If Lin wants out, maybe he and his agent agree to it?

Once Lin signed the offer sheet it became impossible to work a sign and trade with Houston.

Hate to say it, but I voted no on this poll.

I don't think Knicks re-sign Lin.

And frankly, I think stuff like backing out of his Team USA commitment so he could hang out with Jessica Biel at the ESPYs may have something to do with it. This whole off-season has been weird with Lin. Like he's buying his own hype. I dunno. I have to think the Knicks were concerned about him coming back and then he went back to Houston to get more money a second time. Gives one pause. As does choosing ESPYs over TEAM USA practices.

Linn could be traded to the Dumbass Rockets in Jan. if Morey loves him now the PG less idiot should be Linsane by the deadline

i don't think this is necessarily a basketball decision. i chose he will be back, but based soley on marketing and the like. don't get me wrong, i like lin, but he will never have a 2 week stretch like he had this year again. i'm not sure he's a starting pg in this league - right team, right coach, he is, but i don't think he's your typical starting nba-caliber pg. just my opinion though.

I couldn't agree with you more. Lin would make a great story, going from rags to riches. But it just seems like the stars and moons all have to align just right, before Lin is a quality NBA PG. I think originally, thats why they signed Kidd.

I also voted yes, based on marketing and potential. His high turnover rate doesn't sit well with a woodson type coach who values ball control. Lin is a great player, that can score and get to the rim. But he's better as a money maker right now, until he becomes a more seasoned PG.

I think Lin got exposed by Derron Williams and Miami's PG. Teams will follow that same strategy and become more physical with Lin, which will neutralize his impact on the team. Thats not the case with Felton and Kidd.....Both are physical proven NBA PG's ready to grind it out on both ends. Lin is still learning and needs to develop more NBA physical strength. Something that doesn't happen in 25 NBA games.

Another possibility is the Knicks match and trade Lin to Houston or to another team to get help at shooting guard.

they can't match and trade to houston for one full year.

they can trade lin to another team on january 15th.

Pacers would fit Lin's game....

Suns would too, Dragic could play SG

OKC?

true. so would wherever d'antoni coaches next.

Well I can see any of those teams using him, especially Pacers, they don't have a legit PG.

DJ Aug was only signed to 1 year deal

Pacers is stacked with talent on every other position but a true PG.

OKC doesn't really need him, but he sure would help, they have 2 PG's outside of Westbrook.

Suns still run the a tweaked version of that system, well they did when Nash was there.
Dragic/Lin Beasley would be a solid rotation, and they could even all player together with Dudley/Frye/Gortat

All those 3 teams have assets and we somehow managed to acquire assets is magical.

His 3rd year might hurt, but I think it would still be in our best interest to sign and trade him, rather than not matching.
We could be over the cap or/and he might have pissed Dolan off with Houston.
Signing Felton at that price 4-5m is still a steal and this trade favors us unlike the Houston one....

We owe Portland for this one, don't know how Grunweld pulled this off.

Truth is, Lin still has value, we might not be able to afford him at the tax penalties, but not everyone has those penalties.
NBA is a business, if Lin brings in $ and fans like he does, I don't understand why a team wouldn't give a decent package of assets for him.

His value might have drop a bit because of the 3rd year, in terms of getting back talent, but he is still an asset.
And I can see teams having interest in his services.

Besides I REALLY WANT TO STICK IT TO MOREY, LIKE REALLY.
I am just being smart, about the situation, and the hand we are dealt, use the leverage when we have it.

The Felton trade means to me that they are not going to match on Lin. The trade makes no sense, otherwise.

Not happy with Lin, who seems to desire the relative obscurity of Houston to the spotlight he got here. He should send MDA- his creator- a million bucks for Christmas. Yeah, I understand he is looking for the money, but I think he may have misplayed his hand- especially if Houston cannot get, or, if they do get him, keep, Howard.

Sad week, IMO- 3 of the young players I was looking forward to watching in the future- Lin, Fields, and Harrelson, are all gone, or almost gone, in Lin's case.

In only a couple of years we have gone from one of the younger teams in the league to perhaps the oldest.

We will be a competitive team, but I don't think we will ever get by the Heat with this squad. We have one young, but damaged, player on the team with experience in the NBA- Shumpert, and we have a small window of opportunity to do anything with the old team we have.

In a few years the entire process has to start over again, and we will be good enough so that we are probably not going to be picking up any lottery quality picks in the future.

I have a feeling that my enthusiasm for the team and franchise is heading toward Isiah year levels.

Not a good time to be a Knicks' fan, in my opinion.

NO it means, they will most likely NOT KEEP LIN because of the 3rd year.
It does not mean they can't match him, they aren't paying for his 3rd year taxes now.....

You are right, therefore we should acquire assets for Lin, whether it is a combination of a player 5m-7.5m due to 150% rule and/or future draft picks.
Enjoy the ride while it lasts....

Did you guys know how many years we were WAY OVER THE CAP with 100m+ payrolls, I don't know how many times we actually payed for taxes, I don't think it was many, cause we somehow escaped it.
But Dolan was ready to add salary year after year, so ONE year will not dent him.
I think if he trades Lin, it it because he feels like he got disrespected.

But I don't see how NOT MATCHING a 3 year deal, is business savy, Lin generates revenue, just might not be worth it to us because of that one year.
Not all teams will be in that situation, that is why I chose Indiana, even though they are in our conference, they need a PG and have assets.
So it would make sense to deal with them.
I can see them being a strong suitor that could roll the dice on him.
