Knicks · Foe Melo to open his mouth about what another player makes (page 4)

What do you think is fair market value for Lin. Because i guarantee you numerous teams would line up to pay it

That's not even counting the 3rd year $15mill that pretty much puts him in elite Point Guard territory without making a single all star game or playing a single playoff game. Alas, Lin's no dummy and taking advantage of his 15 minutes of fame, but let's crucify Melo for stating the obvious that everyone's thinking.
He shouldnt saying anything. All he has to say is no comment

If he were to say no comment there would be 100 threads talking about how Melo doesn't want Lin back. Oh wait a minute......

LOL So true.

Even if he said no comment, he wouldn't have been any better off. People would read into how he said it, his tone, was he smiling, his body language... its RIDICULOUS alright.

The only real solution is to just not do interviews period.

At the end of the day I can't fault Melo for answering a question truthfully and with regard to how he was feeling at the time. I like people who answer questions directly, honestly and say exactly on their minds. I'd take one of those people over the manipulative and deflective kind. That's why I stick to science (facts) and not politics (BS).

Not sure, it's like an episode of Pawn Stars. You know there's value there, but you don't want to overpay for an unproven commodity, because then you're just gambling on potential.

everything in sports is gambling on potential. guys in the lottery make $5M per season, lin has proven he can excel at the highest level. that's far less of a gamble than using a #1 pick on a college freshman. and less of a financial commitment. and you already know he's one of the most popular players in the world.

i'm sorry letting lin go is completely idiotic.

I agree with you that it is important to be tactful when expressing your opinion. However, if one is justified in one's opinion, and it is one's right to have an opinion, why should they be villainized?

If anyone should be at fault it's the media for misrepresenting the situation and subsequently the individuals who are eating it up without stopping to think or look into it for themselves.

for athletes (and many others), any thing you say can and will be used against you. it just makes more sense to say nothing. controversy creates $ for media outlets so the less you say, the less they can keep spinning, even if they keep pushing it.

melo is stupid, talks too much and shoots too much. but hey, at least he doesn't play defense.
biglove44 @ 7/16/2012 2:12 AM
the melo vs lin and jr vs lin debate could have been prevented had they just not said anything. Didn't they learn anything from their coach the past couple days, and what he's gone through? - Yes, we'll absolutely match Lin, he's our starter to Uh, uh, management will decide on lin.

If you're not gracious with the media, then STFU.

Melo earned his max contract, Lin really hasn't earned his new contract yet. Melo still said he would like Lin to return.
The two statements are not mutually exclusive.

Is this about money or is this about forming a team and winning a champioonship? because if Melo is concerned about money than FUCK him. I hope he ever wins a damn ring.

I don't disagree with what you've said at all.

What I am trying to point out is:
1. When it comes to all things Melo and anything he does the saying "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't," applies. He's never going to win everyone over.

2. You correctly point out that the celebrity or the source is where the media get's its material, however the people are what motivate the media to continue such practices as sensationalism because we are the ones propagating their messages and buying the magazines and paying for their services. We're the one's enabling them, the celebs just provide the material for them to interpret (or purposefully misinterpret). It's a vicious cycle. But it's not the celebs keeping them in business, it's us.

those folks who choose to participate in the madness, indeed. twitter and the like are reaaaaaally making things lame: fake accounts, poorly source data, poor context on given data...

for the celebs, given its ny, you have to be extra careful. nature of the beast. say nothing to your pals as well. all it takes is one of them to flap off and it starts all over.

Interviews are boring and pointless these days because no one is allowed to say anything approaching an opinion about anything relevant without the media then deliberately twisting and hyping the very comment they sought out in the first place. We're all grown ups- I think we can handle the fact that Melo thinks that $14mil in one year with its $45mil tax implications is a ridiculous contract, because we all think that anyway.

Yes, it's not classy to talk about another players contract (they're all ridiculous!), but then again neither is secretly running back to an opposing team, sharing information and renegotiating an agreed on offer sheet to screw over the team that actually gave you your chance in the first place, then signing it before telling that team so they could have at least worked on a sign and trade.

for melo to bring up what lin makes shows how insecure melo is. it's pathetic. and the fact that the organization is listening to melo instead of telling him to calm down and stop talking in public about this is pathetic.

What nobody understands is that the Carmelo trade essentially pushed out Walsh. If something like this happens then it's clear you're giving more power to a player than an executive. In this case, the Knicks run their decisions by Carmelo for approval. To think he has no input at all in roster decisions when they've done everything to appease him would be foolish. Dolan is indebted to Melo and will do anything to please him. This much is certain.

the Knicks run their decisions by Isiah Thomas, not Carmelo.

Obviously he got a great contract offer from his first choice other than the Knicks. He didn't need to meet with other teams.

Melo should worry about winning a damn playoff series! Way to lead, way to fight for having the best team, so you can win. This guy is a cancer and a joke. Only played hard AFTER getting MDA to quit because he WAS NOT TRYING the rest of the season.
JamesLin @ 7/16/2012 7:56 AM
Yeah, Melo should've just kept his mouth shut like the rest of the team. Even if he didn't mean to insult Lin, he should've kept his mouth shut instead of causing more unnecessary media attention
Allanfan20 @ 7/16/2012 7:57 AM
Melo should have just said "That is fine" instead of using the word ridiculous. We wouldn't even be talking about this. With that said, JR Smiths comments were far more damaging. I'm really really surprised people didn't attack him for what he said. I thought that was pretty f'ed up of him. Idiot.
