Knicks · Mad Dog on Sirius Radio....Lin (page 1)

joec32033 @ 7/17/2012 3:24 PM
I was listening to Chris Russo on Sirius on my way home and he had some not so flattering things to say about Lin...I was cut short on my Ride but this is what I heard...

Lin went back and renegotiated-as in there the 5/5/9 contract was the ORIGINAL- contract at the Rockets request without telling Knicks
Knicks feel Lin showing no loyalty to a franchise that showed loyalty to him
Knicks unhappy Lin hired a publicist (I assume MSG provides players with those and Lin hired a private one)
If this current offer sheet was the first one presented and there was no renegotiation, the Knicks would have matched it already no problems
Matching contract is not about the money

In regards to off court:

Lin is amazingly hard to get a hold of media wise
Lin has blown off media several times, especially when he was injured, angering "crusty" old time reporters
Russo stated his opinion is Lin is buying into his own success and has definitely let it go to his head

nyk4ever @ 7/17/2012 3:25 PM
not trying to rag on lin, but steven a. smith said pretty much the same exact things on sportscenter today - especially about the buying into success thing.

take it however you want.

I think there is certainly some truth to what they are saying.

I heard Steven A and Skip going back and forth on Lin for a few minutes too. Didn't hear that part, though. Steven A said Dolan is 95% certain to let him walk.

Both Skip and SAS said that Lin is at least a little above average player
Neither thought he was a superstar
SAS said Knicks believe they have gone through the money not mattering thing before and it didn't work
Dolan is still pissed
Felton trade was a knee jerk reaction to the offer sheet and may be the reason they let Lin walk
Brought up Felton and Lin under MDA. SAS said Woodson's system has alot of MDA elements in it, and it was similar but not the same
SAS said Lin can't guard a fence post and is a one armed player (always to the right)
Skip disagreed

What is happening is that Lin got himself some heavy weight representation and those guys know the unreal amount of money Lin is able to realize if he continues to play well and they are giving him advice on what he should do contract wise and promotion wise. Don't think this is Lin just doing this on his own. This happened back in June:

Jeremy Lin has a new leading agent: Jim Tanner, who is a partner at the prestigious Williams & Connolly law firm in Washington, D.C.

Lin, who was previously solely repped by Roger Montgomery, also has a new publicist, Meredith Geisler, who works with Tanner's clients, some of whom are future Hall of Famers. Tanner currently represents Tim Duncan, Ray Allen, Grant Hill, Shane Battier, Hedo Turkolgu, Marvin Williams, Brandan Wright, Zaza Pachulia, Tony Battie, Luke Ridnour, Royal Ivey and draft prospect John Henson.

According to a release sent out by Geisler on Thursday, Tanner will represent Lin in all areas of contractual agreements, marketing endorsements, licensing, personal appearances, media relations, community investments and other business opportunities. In addition, Montgomery will collaborate with Tanner on free agency and other basketball-related matters.

"I believe Jim and the team at Williams & Connolly are the best fit for me in all aspects of my career," Lin said in a statement. "With the quality and character of their firm and clients, their extensive basketball experience and tremendous success in athlete representation, I am confident that Williams & Connolly will provide me with the guidance I need to continue to develop personally and professionally. I am excited to have them work with Roger Montgomery and my current team."

Lin's decision to switch agents comes at a crucial part of his career, as he's a restricted free agent and looking to secure his first multi-year, multi-million-dollar contract. Not only that, Lin has the ability to maximize his earning potential off the court with more lucrative endorsements. As of now, his biggest one is Volvo.

Tanner is one of the most respected agents in the game, and he's been ranked as one of "Washington's Top Lawyers" for media and sports law by Washingtonian Magazine several times in the past few years. In addition, his law firm was ranked No. 1 last year in Washington, D.C., and eighth-best in the country by the Vault Guide.

Insiders predict Lin will more than likely re-sign with the Knicks for three years (with a fourth-year option) at $3 to $5 million per year.

loyalty huh? like making a B-line for Nash while putting Lin on the back-burner?

Smith also said the other day that he spoke to Lin's teammates after Lin was cleared to play and after he said that he wasn't ready (at 85 percent) some of them asked if he could play just 15 minutes a game and he still said no. If Lin said no to that option as well, it becomes a little clearer as to why Lin might not be so popular in the locker room.

ChuckBuck @ 7/17/2012 3:41 PM
The general feeling with alot of media is Lin did go a little "Hollywood". He definitely isn't the same aw shucks, praise God, innocent humble guy we witnessed during Linsanity. There was alot of signs of this happening: The I'm 85% but I won't play, the firing of his agent, the social media breakout star win, the ESPY awards, the hiring a new publicist, the Jimmy Kimmel appearance, The upset at the Knicks for not offering which he quickly denied, and the final straw the secret behind the back renegotiation. You think you know what a dude is all about, until a little fame and fortune gets in the way...

That is starting to become the consitent stary all over the media now.

It's really not hard to believe that Jeremy Lin is gettting a little gassed up in the head after the quick rise to fame.

AS that story spreads, maybe more people will stop trying to ignore it. Lin has yet to come out on twitter to refute these claims like he did last week after Bitch Lawrence wrote that lie about Lin being "Mad" at the Knicks. Hmmm...

Something major I forgot. As per SAS, Lin was cleared by the Knicks to play in the playoffs but he chose not to. Said players had to understand from a business standpoint, but from a locker room/competitive standpoint, he lost some guys.

SAS also said he isn't hated or anything, as he is a very likeable kid, but he isn't beloved by a long shot either.

I've been saying this for the longest, kid chose not to play in the playoffs, due to his contract status. Deduct 2 Team loyalty points right there. You got guys falling by the wayside, but chose not to back your teammates in their time of need for selfish reasons. Put himself above the team. Win or lose, who cares, give it your all just for the emotional and psychological boost it would've gave the team. It's the past now, but it definitely left a stain on this fan...

BasketballJones @ 7/17/2012 3:56 PM
Nah. This is not possible. Surely it is that evil Melo guy who did all these bad things, and not our beloved little angel Lin.

I honestly do not believe that was the case. I believe that they saw Nash as a win-win: an opportunity to better the team and opportunity to help Lin learn under one of the best pgs in the game and to ever play the game.
mrKnickShot @ 7/17/2012 3:57 PM
If anyone thinks that he would not have played in the playoffs if he was in the first year of a good contract they are either dumb or being dishonest.
gunsnewing @ 7/17/2012 4:02 PM
Im glad lin didnt waste his time playing against the heat after being out for weeks after knee surgery. Im happy he put himself in position to get the best possible deal for himself. His first major deal. No different then Melo forcing a trade to ny to get the max contract with the uncertainty of the cba. At least lin secured his 25mil. I mean its not 100mil like amare & melo but he should be set financially

Russo is 100% correct
Lin put himself and fatter Pockets before team. Lin /Agent messed up whole situation
The stranglehold financially though wont be blamed on Lin down the road, it will be blamed on Melo.

*its ashame
When folks say Melo Anthony does this he'll get blame rest of knicks would never ever get.

mrKnickShot @ 7/17/2012 4:04 PM
Yeah, maybe should have sat out the postseason before to make sure he does not get hurt before the big payday
smackeddog @ 7/17/2012 4:05 PM
What annoys me is we let him sit out of the playoffs for the benefit of his longer term career, and he then went and pulled a d*** move on us, and the timing of it (after we'd made all our roster moves) really screwed us. The issue is does that and the fact he has an ego (many players do) mean we should harm ourselves just to teach him a lesson? Letting him go means we suffer, but he still gets his money- its not a good decision to let him walk.

Yep, I don't believe any of his teammates fault Lin for trying to get paid, they would do the same. I believe its how he is going about it that might rub some of them the wrong way. If Lin does come back he is going to have to work on smoothing things over with the team because Lin got what he wanted. He got his money, his new agent, his publicist, his trademarks, its time for Lin to show that he is worth all this money and attention. Can't live off those 25 games forever.

yellowboy90 @ 7/17/2012 4:07 PM
Not so sure I believe it but there were stories that he was like this back in high school and college. Do I think he could have played? Yes. I think everyone does but most will say he has to look out for himself. Which is OK too but do not come at me with he is Mr. Team.

I like Lin hope he stays. I am one of those weird Knock fans that like both Lin and Melo.
