First time I thought about this as our starting five...Yeah, this group is physically strong to some degree (You seem to be counting Anthony and Amare as "strong," but both are inconsistent as post defenders.), but this is, arguably, one of the worst outside shooting teams in the league, by the way. We don't have guys willing and able to hang out on the outside and consistently make shots.
Am I the only one who gets the feeling that if this is our starting lineup for much of the season it is one of the most unbalanced starting squads in the league?
All you guys who screamed at Fields, are now getting a terrible offensive player in Brewer. His man will be dropping off him to harass Anthony or Amare on a regular basis.
Chandler has yet to prove he can do anything on offense but be part of a pick and roll. Felton has a reputation as being an ineffective shooter, and his pick and role ability will be compromised by the fact that teams will be packing it in on D and clogging up the middle.
This is a squad that is going to have a lot of trouble scoring against good defenses, so we had better step it up when we are on the defensive end.
And yeah, I realize that I am a nattering nabob of negativism.I still think we need to move Novak into the starting lineup for Amare. He's one of the only guys who can shoot from long range and it would go a long way towards balancing the lineup.
I believe that move would make it easier for everyone. Having 4 shooters to spread the floor, unclogs the lane for Felton to penetrate, Tyson Chandler to score on his man without help, and Melo to post up.
Amare also gets the pass first PGs with shooters to space him out in the 2nd unit, most importantly allows Amare to play the alpha role again.
I think Camby fits with Amare better than Tyson Chandler.
The opponent's PF has to either try to keep up with Melo or stay on the 3 pt line guarding Novak
If the PF is guarding Melo, it would allow Melo to actually penetrate off the dribble as a mismatch.

Novak in for Amare means Melo at PF and that would be a bad idea. Melo would wear down trying to battle much stronger PF's on the defensive end. Novak is even worse on D than Stat and his inclusion in the starting lineup weakens us on the defensive end.
I agree that Camby would probably work better with Stat then Chandler. Hopefully, Woodson is creative enough in his sub-patterns that he can carve out spot mins where Camby and Amare are on the floor together.

It depends really on who we play, what the match up is, and if the opponent can pull Tyson Chandler away from the basket from help defense.

but this is, arguably, one of the worst outside shooting teams in the league, by the way.
I find this statement hallarious....
So by losing Lin (slasher), Toney Douglas (inconsistent shooter), Jerome Jordan (terrible shooter), Jorts (inconsistent shooter), Fields (do I need to say anything here?)....
Now we are the worst outside shooting team in the league? What shooter did we lose to make us the worst shooting team?
If you are going to hate on your own team, please use some facts. Or go to the Nets....They might be a better shooting team....
I think the biggest trade the Knicks need, besides the owner.....Are some of these FANS.
Take another look and you will realize, we actually got better at outside shooting (Vets shoot better as they age, especially in the clutch). But lets just say we are still the same, which is closer to being the truth (Smith, Novak, Melo, Kidd (Most 3's made in history), Kurt, Stat, Pablo...even Camby has been knocking down shots)....
One thing every Knick hater seems to forget, is that we are light years ahead of last years team on defense, toughness, IQ and ball control.....Only real knick fans reply....I have nothing to say to anybody else!

Who's Novak gonna guard?
on most nights, the same guy Amare tries to defend majority of the times but fails in his attempt.
Novak finished out games during Linsanity and it worked, he has to stay in front of him, and just put a body on him which he does, for offensive rebounds.

This lineup hurts us on the other side of the ball...Melo is too undersized to guard PF's and Novak isn't a good defensive player and will get torched trying to guard first-unit SF's...

You can always count on Bonn to look at the glass half full.
The major concern for this team will be spacing and consistant offense. Hopefully Kidd & Felton can get lots of easy buckets for guys.
