This is very disappointing. Tyson has no offensive game and is a glaring hole to an otherwise excellent (defensive) player. After 10+ years in the league, I question how dedicated he is in developing any sort of offensive game. How is it possible that nobody ever forced this guy to develop any sort of mid range game? A 10-15 footer? CMON! HOF consideration and/or all star selections will not be considered with only being able to dunk.
The "Dream Shake" is going to have to wait.
Knicks center Tyson Chandler told reporters in London that he will not attend Hakeem Olajuwon's big man camp this summer.
Amare Stoudemire is currently training with Olajuwon in Houston, and there was speculation that Chandler would join him after the Olympics.
But Chandler told the New York Post that he wouldn't be attending due to "logistical issues."
Chandler has also dealt with injury issues this summer. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year dislocated a finger on his right hand while working out before the Olympics.
He left Team USA's win over Tunisia midway through the fourth quarter after apparently aggravating the injury.
In his Olympic diary for ESPNNewYork.com, Chandler said that he would be "fine."
"For those of you who are worried about my left-hand injury from the Tunisia game, it's feeling better," Chandler said in his Aug. 2 entry. "I dislocated my finger right before Team USA training camp in Las Vegas, and it swelled up on me. I was trying to get in shape and I was playing pickup, and I dislocated it. It is what it is, but I'll be fine."
the last thing the knicks need is for chandler to demand the ball downlow. besides, much of the reason that chandler is such a great defensive player is that he doesn't have to give alot offensively. chandlers game is and always will be as a pick-n-roll big man who is a great offensive rebounder and can clean up around the hoop. melo and amear are the guys you want shooting ball, not chandler in the post.

Ok. I can see that. However, how about a simple 10-15 footer to keep the defense honest? I don't get it.
All he needs is a 15ft jumpshot. If Camby can develop one with the ugliest looking release ever than Chandler can too if he made the attempt. Clear the lane for Amare to do what he does best. If he doesn't develop a jumper than Camby will get more minutes next to Amare if need be
Learning a move or two can never hurt, only help..Maybe he needs the time to rest but I'm disappointed as well...Being a good defender doesn't mean that's all u need to do...Dream was a much better defender than Chandler...He worked on his offensive game in college and perfected it in the pros..His freshman year he was just a dunker like Chandler...Phi Slamma Jamma...
i feel like the last thing you want is chandler 15ft away from the hoop. everything that chandler does well, requires him to be right around the hoop, not 15ft away from it.
What is Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo up to? Fingerwag Masterclass!

Exactly!
But why has he not developed one? I don't even recall him ever attempting one. One would think that base on his FT shooting, it would not be impossible. It doesn't even need to be a jumper, a set shot would be fine. Don't get it - even Dalembert has one. Ibaka now has one ...

I disagree. You can't allow the opponent to ever be allowed to play 4 on 5 - there is no need to make it easier to defend us. He often catches the ball 10-15 feet from the hoop, there is just nobody near him. That also leads to offensive fouls since if he drives and the defender is sagging, he can only plow into him.
With that said I don't think Chandler needs to fly to Houston for $100,000.00 to learn how to shoot from Hakeem. He can do it on his own time with a trainer the rest of the offseason

Im sure many people said that about Shaq...but to me, the guy is what he is..i rather him come to camp 100..

I agree. But how sad is it that this will not happen?

It won't hurt him to shoot 1000 10-15 footers a day.
Would've been a real treat to see Shaq at 7'1'' 400LB shooting a jumpshot LOL

Shaq spent all his time in the post. It was less important for him.
Shaq was the post he had no business stepping out. Tyson doesn't do enough in the post offensively to constantly be there clogging the lane and getting in Amare's way. Like you said develop a 15ft'r to keep the defense honest or sit for Camby & KT
You knew this was coming Chandler has zero offensive game and doesn't want to get better at it you can call him content too. Olympics takes a lot out of players after the euphoria of getting gold players just want to chillax and do nothing to get better after that. Watch Melo become a fat cat again you know its just a matter of time.
I don't understand why people would be mad at this. I actually prefer this. These guys need the rest. Chandlers post moves can wait until next Summer, when he has a full Summer to work on them anyway. He will barely have time as it is, this Summer. Like I said a month or two before, it takes tremendous practice. What would be the point?
I guess people expect these guys to be machines because they make a lot of money. Damn man, learn something about athletes.
Although I wish Chandler learned a post move or hook from Hakeem, I'd rather him come into camp 100%, and miss little to no games during the season. It's more important for Amare and the Knicks to learn new moves rather than Tyson.

How about any sort of J?
Chandler = Defense.
This guy has always been a professional and even though he's not working with Hakeem doesn't mean that he's not going to work on his game this offseason. He's the DPOY and people are complaining about his offense?
