Felton wasn't backup plan, he was part of "the" plan, if anything he was the backup plan for Nash.

He was rumored during the 4th of July and signed when quite a few were reporting Lin wasn't coming back.

gunsnewing @ 9/6/2012 8:25 PM
im not sure about that so you are saying Lin, Nash and Kidd was the original plan?

I disagree once Nash went to the Lakers the plan became to get Kidd to be Lins Mentor. Then Dolan had a hissy fit and we lost Lin and had to settle for Felton. Kidd did not come here to mentor Felton

It just depends on how you look at it.....

For one, the mentoring imo, equals "Lin, go sit and watch how we do this".

Nash wasn't gonna be the backup at all, certainly isn't playing below 30 per contest, and we had a package in excess of 8 mil a season for him, and that isn't bench pay.

Kidd definitely wants to play and while the mentoring would have been a part of that, as what Kidd acknowledged in several interviews, Kidd would see more floor time as well, especially late at the end of games, so once again, a diminished role for Lin.

I truthfully believe Felton when rumored well before Lin's deal was out, had a promise to have a legit chance to be the starter and even said as much when they was out in Vegas, that he expected to do so.

Even with Prig, he certainly didn't come over just to ride pine, and we were hot on him well before free agency began.

So based on what was going on, at the right price, they certainly would have brought Lin back, but his role was going to be backup at best on this team initially, no matter what Woodson said.

Leopards don't change their spots, Woodson goes the vet route 10 times out of 10.

Even with the contract, the fact of no offer cements the notion, they really did not believe he would get what they could have offered, so they sent him to price himself.

But this isn't just with Lin, they felt the same way with Fields.

gunsnewing @ 9/6/2012 8:53 PM
Lin was already on the way out. Felton would not have signed on to be Lin and Kidd's backup
gunsnewing @ 9/6/2012 8:58 PM
Knicks picked up Kidd once he said he wouldn't mind backing up Lin or Deron and they struck out on Nash who they had no business going after anyway. Felton didn't enter the picture til after Dolan got sand in his vagina. And Felton wasn't coming to split time with Lin let alone back him up
knickscity @ 9/6/2012 9:17 PM
the clues were there, which is the point, I'm not saying lin wasn't in the plans, but he wasn't in the plans as the starter or at high dollars.

I'm at Dolans fourth of July party. Felton was there, he said he's on the Knicks. Take it FWIW #Knicks

Which happened, and correct Felton wasn't about to be the backup.

Everything rumored happened.

All of this was reported BEFORE the poison pill came out....

Thanks for piece this together. I had long suspected signing Lin wasn't their top priority this offseason, as it was reflected by their actions. Many fans are so adamently thought otherwise.
First you have to remember, NBA still a multi billion dollar business. Right at the beginning of FA, "we will match any offer up to a billion dollars." This is just a marketing stunt to sell more season tickets and jack up MSG stocks. And hopefully scare other teams off and lowball Lin later.

For those who thought Knicks wouldve matched the first offer, then why did they signed Kidd AND then pursue Felton before the the official offer? You have to remember, if it's not written down in ink, it's not an offer. There was only one official offer. Screw all that you said, I said, he said. So without an official offer from Lin, they signed Felton. It was really odd at the time and threw me way off. Why would they sign 2 starter-quality PG's, at a combined total of 7 millions to back up Lin? Not to mention Felton's big mouth slipped by saying, "Woodson told me privately I will be a starter for the Knicks." I really though he was on drugs and delusional when I read that somewhere, I LOLed. As it turn out it was LOL on me.

In retrospect, follow the trail of their actions, everything came out of media was a ploy, a deception. What they said and what was said privately were two totally different things. What they said and what they did were also two different things. Actions spoke louder than words. Dolan squeezed all he could out of his milk cow who only cost him $762K. I understand perfectly he is a businessman first, but I just can't stand an own who purposely deceive the fans, and I am sure some of you feel the same way.

Dolan is way ahead of all of us. A keen financial acumen AND basketball understanding who is in perfect control. A stone pokerface negotiator who like Bruce wayne shows a undisciplined veneer but its a patina of deception to not reveal his true identity!

Apparently Dlee ran a clinic with the locals on how to play D-less-DLEE-D in the lane prior to the film shoot. He should have a fine Western Conference coaching career when his playing days are over.

It should really be...Lin looked good with Iverson's arm sleeve. Lebron, Kobe, Ray Allen, and Melo all fashioned after AI.
