Reality I fear is these guys just can't do it on both ends for 38 minutes a nite and "entertain" the fans.
Fans want to see points scored.
Fans want hustle and effort! NY loved Oakley because he cared and had a set of balls - he didn't score many points and was not athletic. I think that you grossly underestimate or misrepresent the NY fans.
The defense bothers me less then the complete lack of effort on the boards.
I have completely overestimated NY knick fans.
They are just as bandwagon riders than any other. Dolan has most of your number.
"Real fans" seem to be devout supporters all things good and bad.
ONly thing is the last thing many pay attention to is the actual wins and loses.
If a fan was not sold on Lin after a roller coaster 25 games that they are a devout supporter of good and bad?
What kind of fan am I?
Pro Melo trade but I think that we overpaid
Anti signing Amare since we overpaid by 40 million (that was the second best offer)
Love Tyson but wish we could have saved the amnesty just in case Amare breaks down (mixed feelings), wish he had any offensive game
JR is a talented dope but he is from my home town so I root for him - hopefully Woody gets to him
Liked that we brought in vets since a winning team usually has a mix and we can use their leadership
Not crazy about Felton - his shot selection when he was here was very spotty - we often lived and died by his shooting. His defense is ok and he can pass. 4 million per - I can deal with.
Dont hate Woody but pined for PJax - dumb move to no call him
Oh ... and I don't like IT lurking in the shadows
I think that Dolan is a GREAT GUITARIST
I think your going to be ok......Your a moderete Starphuching centrist.
But you have not said where you are with the N*ts? Can you tolerate them? Not saying a "fan" but lets say the N*ts are playing the Lakers and at the same time the Celtics are playing the Sacremento Kings. Which game do you watch? Knicks have the nite off.
Fluck the Nyets!!! I'm a Yankee fan and hate the Mets, Jets fan and hate the Giants, KNICKS FAN and hate the Nets!!!!

DSN's: "Starphuching Dolanite N*tPhobics"
I do know the "DSN's" are happier than us "Haters"!
40 years making me angry!
Who are these Dolanites that you guys are referring to? How would I know if I ran into a Dolanite? What symptoms do they have? Is this like a communicable disease that I can catch, or more like a computer virus that just spreads? Am I a Dolanite without even realizing it?
Jets fans are jealous of the Giants the same as Mets fans are jealous of the Yankees. Understandable when the Giants are 4-1 in the S.B. and the Jets are still talking about Namath. The Mets have '86 and the Yankees have won 5 W.S. title since.
However, there is 100% no way I can root for a NY team that plays in the same division, that's where I draw the line. Phuck Brooklyn!!!
I do not hate rival teams, just get annoyed by them due to media attention or obnoxious fans....
Giants fan......really don't care about the Jets at all, however it is more difficult these days as all the local media seems to discuss is the Jets, Ryan and Tebow. Perhaps I am jealous or old school, but a team that wins the SB should at least get equal air time. I guess if you win boring it does not count these days in NY.
Yankees fan...don't really give the Mets a second though except for the subway series each year. This might be since the Yankees have many ships in my lifetime.
Rangers fan....will always hate the Isles (Potvan sucks) due to when I grew up in the 70's. For some reason I don't care as much about the Devils even though they won more recently and I live in Jersey. Devils to me will always be the Colorado Rockies.
Knicks fan. Really didn't care about the Nets in Jersey, but find them annoying now in a Jets type of way. Way too much hype and attention from the media. Perhaps I have some disdain for them because of the Brooklyn thing, which is supposed to be the new cool thing of something like that.

you are totally off base about this Nalod. You don't have to love or even like management to like the Knicks. You as a fan don't appreciate the power of the Blue and Orange armor nor the power of the Knicks logo on the parquet floor. Guys come into the garden and often play above their ability because being a Knick brings out passions just like being a Knick fan does.
I think about guys like Starks and a few others who, if put on other teams at the time, I doubt they would have the same impact. Many of the greats didn't like management but, they still came out and left it on the line FOR US!!!!!! The players play for US not management. Spree hated Dolan but, he never, ever stiffed the fans that sat in those seats or watched on the tube. Ewing and LJ both hated management but, they never ever stiffed us either.
your hatred of management and love for other teams may have you twisted because, fans don't watch to see Dolan...hell we're happy he tends to hide behind the scenes. The players made me into a Knick fan, NOT THE MANAGEMENT!!!!
Say what you want about the current crop of Knicks but, they also leave it all on the court for us. Say what you want about Melo but, last year in the playoffs he was our Hero for almost single-handedly keeping those games competitive. Amare gave his all even though he was injured and grieving, Shump left it all on the floor, Jeffries always left it on the floor and sometimes I wondered how the hell he was able to get up.
I'm not going to go through the whole roster but I will even mention how JR Smith came in, toned down his antics, became the second best man on man defender on the team and actually proved to be coachable. I LOVE THOSE FUCKING KNICKS.

N*yets Love is where it's at, man. The colors, the pageantry, the freelove, freewheeling, BigAirFros, Fish that Saved Pittsburgh mindset. Playing in college gyms. Weed at all the halftime breaks.
Knicks are corporate, old big money, pathetic white boy blues, incompetent, impotent Wall Street establishment.
N*yets are entrepreneurial, Hip Rap Hop, NWA, foreign flair, body paint, big family crew, screw the man revolutionaries! Up with the People! We don't win, but at least we're effin cool losers!
Nalod, your team, just like your politics, sucks. It always has, it always will. 40 years of nothing that counts and JKidd. Congratulations. I'll stick with my corporate silver spoon sucking owner and the orange and blue. And occassionally I'll slide over to the Nets forum and berate you there.
Move on folks. Nothing to see here.

Thanks for posting that- Amar'e looks in great shape, so let's hope the hard work pays off when the season starts. He gets a ridiculous amount of hate these days so I'm hoping he turns that around. Not long to go- media day is 1st October!
tj23 wrote:holfresh wrote:mrKnickShot wrote:As hilarious as this Headline is, does anyone remember any players who became a good defensive player after being in the league for as long as Amare?I will settle for OK - but I know that I am probably in dreamland.
Here is another example of Amare saying a lot "stuff" - we need to see it on the court, Amare! Not just to the media in pre-season.
He is right about one thing...he has room to become a much, much, much better defensive player...I never understood why good athletic (Amare, DLee) couldn't get it done on the defensive side of the ball...
Sorry to be blunt but Amare is lazy, stupid, and has zero focus or intesity on defense. Some guys have no desire or instincts.
I don't know why there's this common idea, one that is also shared by STAT, that good defense is mostly about effort. As if you just have to try hard enough to be an elite defender. Obviously if you don't try at something, you can't be good at it, but the idea that trying is enough to make you an expert is preposterous. Look at Shump: he has always been into shutting people down, and has obsessed over it, has put so much thought and time and practice into that, and as good as he is as a one-on-one defense, he still has room to improve, such as on help defense.
No one ever thinks that improving rebounding is all about effort and intensity, yet somehow that's enough for defense. I don't get it. Maybe it's because players who are into padding their stat own line don't have much incentive to play great defense since it doesn't show up on the stat sheet. Except for highlight blocks, which STAT does get now and then. Chandler is more about being in the right position than padding his stat line with blocks. The shit is an art form. You have to love it to be good at it. Like real love, not some overnight infatuation with the idea.
STAT is often not even in a low, defensive stance. I don't know if his high center of gravity makes that harder for him, but whatever it is, old habits are hard to overcome.

You hit the nail on the head, Amare needs to shut his yapper and prove that he can become a shut down defender. My standards for him are so low I will take average defender from Amare.

I have no problem if the Nets win as long as the Knicks are better (if they are pitted against each other). It is good for NY basketball. I feel the same way about the Jets and the Mets. That is how I feel now but it is probably just pity.
Met fans hate the Yankees but I don't find that to be the case the other way around. Probably because of jealousy (which is understandable)
I watch many Net games in the Kidd era and I rooted for them in the playoffs. Lately, they have been un watchable.
Mets fans hate Yankees fans because of the bandwagoners I think. The kids who had a Gary Carter card in their locker in the 80s, now rocking NYY gear like Daddy Yankee.
Or it's Little Brother Syndrome. I still think the Mets home uni should be Dodger blue, Giant orange, with the blue pinstripes. Who you think the pinstripes are for? Our arrogant big brother up town.
But most of all, we Mets fans are self-hating.
