Knicks · Stephon Marbury, CBA Champion, and Voice of Reason for the NY Knicks (page 1)

Hard to argue with a guy that has a Chip and a Statue.

NEW YORK -- Count ex-New York Knick Stephon Marbury among those who don't think current Knicks stars Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire are a good fit together.

"Amare needs a point guard like Steve Nash (to thrive). He's a pick-and-roll guy, a pick-and-pop guy. He can't play in the half court where everything's slowed down," Marbury told ESPN New York during a brief interview in Manhattan on Wednesday.

When asked if he thought Anthony and Stoudemire could flourish together, Marbury said flatly, "Nope."

Many have expressed the same concerns with the Knicks' star duo. In their season and a half together, the Knicks have a sub-.500 record when both are in the starting lineup.

But Marbury brings a unique perspective to the debate. He played with Stoudemire in Phoenix during the 2002-03 season and for 34 games the next season before Marbury was dealt to the Knicks. He also spent five mostly rocky years with the Knicks.

In addition to his thoughts on Stoudemire, Marbury also questioned the Knicks' motivation in obtaining Anthony. New York executed a three-team blockbuster deal to bring Anthony in from Denver in February 2011.

"I don't know if (Knicks owner James) Dolan brought him in to win games or to make money," Marbury said. "I think it was to make money."

Marbury, though, says Anthony is the Knicks' best player and the team should be built around his strengths. Anthony is a skilled passer but also thrives in isolation.

This style clashed at times with ex-Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo system. Current Knicks coach Mike Woodson seemed more comfortable putting the ball in Anthony's hands in the low and mid-post and letting him operate in isolation after he took over in late March.

"You knew what he was when you got him," Marbury said of Anthony. "Let him do what he does."

Marbury is 3 years removed from his controversial tenure in New York. The Brooklyn native came home in a trade midway through the 2003-04 season and led the Knicks to the playoffs that season. But losing seasons and clashes with management, coaches and teammates followed. He and the team agreed to a buyout in the 2008-09 season.

As a Coney Island native, though, Marbury said he still remains a Knicks fan and will always root for the team.

"I think they have a good team," Marbury said. "They could make the second round (of the playoffs)."

Marbury currently plays for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association. He led the team to a championship last season and is heading back to China this week.

Always good to hear the great Knicks of yesterday chime in.

Hate to say it, the guy has a few points.

"I don't know if (Knicks owner James) Dolan brought him in to win games or to make money," Marbury said. "I think it was to make money."

If anyone knows about bad chemistry, its Marbury!

Im gonna guess someone asked him a question and he answered it.

Do I agree with his answer?

Not important what I think, I'll let the KNicks answer it on the court!

I don't know how informative his answers was, there aren't a lot of ppl who feel different..and the #s indicate it..

Again take heed to when phil said the knicks were clumsy, thats going to be in the back of my mind until i see different..

If we get off to a slow start, and those 2 are not playing well, I see some serious changes being made..I don't see it ever going the Kobe-Shaq-fude way because there actual friends, but Amare will be the first to either slide to the bench, or get traded..and IMO that will suck, CAUSE HE STARTED THE RESURECTION, and he'll be the sacrificial LAMB..

Believe it or not FELTON is going to be the difference maker if those two are to ever co-exist, also having KIDD in the locker room with Chandler is a bonus as well..

The only thing we have to do is stay relatively healthy

Man, I think I have seen it all now...Nolad and Marbs in concert, on the same page!!!...It's all or bust now...I wanna see the odds on a Knicks Chip in Vegas...I'm all in now....

1st of all MSG makes money Melo or no Melo. Knicks have a very good situation in that as long as the team gets to the level where they are in the hunt for a playoff spot they'll draw fans. Even when it was just STAT the team was doing well. I think they went for Melo cuz he's a great player in his prime they believed they can win with. They were trying to put 2-3 All Stars together just like Boston and Miami. That's why we have Melo, STAT and Tyson. That's not about making money. That's about trying to win. Adding all the vets they've added was also more about winning than trying to create a bigger draw. Hate to say it but they don't have to try that hard just to make money.

This is a good team. It's not perfect but there's a lot that is right about this team. They're built to defend on an elite level and they have some great offensive players too. Woody is trying to address the issues with STAT and Melo's games not meshing. It could work. We have to see how it goes, but I think it's a good idea trying to have them learn from Hakeem more about playing off each other.

He sure does, he also knows more than we do on how Dolan operates and he's also played with Amar'e. I'm not going totally ride with his views as he's coo-koo himself but I'm not going to take this as ignorance either.

Definite sig-worthy material.

People are actually giving credence to Mr. Vaseline himself. It's come to this.

Knicks and Dolan have stooped so low even Marbury can see it at his reduced mental elevation.

Your obvious obsession with many things Nalodian is very interesting. Will we be reading about it in "TMZ" anytime soon?

In the land of reality, anybody that eats Vaseline on camera and rants cut the check for "$50 million" opinion is invalidated immediately.

Now we like Marbury? lol

I never liked MDA but I always believe that, and I'm sure that I am in the minority here, if he would have tried to work with Marbury, the Knicks would have been much more successful and they would BOTH still be here.

I generally respect your opinion and used your post as the focal point of the dazzling coherence of even considering the opinion of someone with such "reduced mental elevation." Among other well-overly-documented mental defects. And other run-on sentences.

Marbles, who's never won anything, discussing the winning probabilities of others
Marbles, who's Knick highlights include POV in-the-truck vids
Marbles, who's now even lost the attention of Bermanbury
Marbles, who couldn't manage to outwit our ex-resident genius, IT

I don't know what "TMZ" is (and don't care to google it), but I do so hope to be published one day soon. I'm writing the definitive work on the benefits of starphucquing, player-run leagues, hazard insurance in foreign countries, and why we really need to bring back the ABA.

I'm actually more concerned with the never ending connection between you and ChuckBuck. Will we be reading about it in the "announcements section" of the Star Ledger anytime soon?

We're joined at the hip!

This is very disturbing. On several levels.

Just sayin.

Posts like the last two above. No Alba tournament.
Connection?

This is what happens when there is no Alba tournament.

If the above is disturbing, perhaps on a subliminal level you are finding pleasure, then perhaps the inner conflict is coming up to the surface and you can be released from your supression.

Of course, not that there would be anything wrong with that!

One day the UK will ask a poll: "are there any openly gay UK knick fans here?"

Until then you can be disturbed by what pleases you.

I find disturbing things disturbing. I find pleasurable things pleasurable.

Sandpacking <--- disturbing ................. Eating vomit or feces <--- disturbing

Alba tournery <--- pleasurable ............... Great butt thread <--- pleasurable

See the simplicity? No conflicts, no nagging suppression. Just pure reality.

Try and leave the morbid, liberal psychobabble behind (so to speak) and let life be what it actually is. Marx is still dead. God is still alive. So much for opiate of the masses. Embrace the reality of your inner soul and spirit.

You'll find it's truly freeing, and the entitlement/victim mentality that's been ingrained in your psyche would better serve you if you had left it behind in the dorm room with that broken mini frig.

If you and Chuckbuck have a thing, live with it. Just not on the board for all to see. It's just...disturbing.

The openly N*yets fan poll was more than enough openess for me in one lifetime.
Not that there's anything wrong with being a N*yets fan on a Knicks board, you understand.

Oh, and Mike Newlin says hi!

Why you keep blowing up Nalod's and my spot?

We have a thing going!

In all seriousness, Nalod's kinda right. I would love to participate in the Alba tournament, but without it, will have to gaze deeply into the young mind's of the women in the Great Butt Thread.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with this little gift(maybe 2 big gifts?)

It's Marbury, people.

I think marbs is right.
If Woody will have enough Vaseline to put Melo into the track with Stat and Kidd will not rump it into slow Camby and fat Felton while being intoxicated we will be OK.

KNICKS GET NETS' NEWLIN FOR WOODSON

[ DISPLAYING ABSTRACT ]

The Knicks went into yesterday's draft of college players without a first-round choice and thus with little hope of acquiring the truly dominant power forward they have long sought. But they did have a new shooting guard. About 40 minutes before the Dallas Mavericks made Mark Aguirre of De Paul the first choice in the draft, New York got Mike Newlin from the New Jersey Nets for Mike Woodson, a swing man from Indiana who was the Knicks' top choice last year. ''We were just calling around,'' said Eddie Donovan, New York's general manager, ''and suddenly we had a trade. The whole thing took about 15 minutes.''

You may not like Marbury for various reasons, but if you just take his statements at face value, it is hard to argue with them.
