Off Topic · Romney kicked Obamas arse tonight (page 3)
nixluva@ 10/5/2012 5:09 AM
Obama is a Jedi. In the end he'll prevail over the evil emperor Romney. Trust me. Romney doesn't have another move that was his full clip. Dude is on empty now and all he can do is stand there and take what's comin. Once he laid out his final flip flop he won't be able to change like that again. Last act of a desperate man. Obama on the other hand has all of his options available to attack Romney. He has the high ground.
Moonangie@ 10/5/2012 8:34 AM
Obama looked weak, but not feckless. There's a strategy built into the debate schedule: He's not going to show his cards at the flop. He'll do a semi-reveal after the turn, and then lay the smack down after the river. He has PLENTY of ammunition (I mean 47%...puhleez). But he didn't want to use up the massive political capital he has on reserve until later in the show.
Capital accrued - Killed Bin Laden - Intervened successfully in Libya to help end despot's rein (think a Republican would do that?) - Managed not to phuck up the Middle East while it went through Arab Spring - Ended two wars and refocused our military on spec ops and counter-terrorism (read "drones") - which is our actual war - Protected the Nation from terrorism - Prevented the economy from slipping into Depression! - Saved Detroit (and millions of associated jobs)... jobs saved >= jobs added (higher wage scale) - Redirected our nation toward single-payer health system (coming to a town near you in the second term) - Started the rhetorical shift toward re-regulating the loonies on the Street - Romney has given Obama so much leverage: Writing off 47% of Americans, tenure at Bain Capital cannibalizing companies, tax havens abroad, clearly of/by/for the wealthiest class, history of intolerance (gay-basher in HS), would end Sasame Street (actually says SO much about his attitude), and plenty more
Looking forward - Obama will have articulate new champions in the Senate (May I introduce Elizabeth Warren) who aren't afraid to tango with the big boys - He MAY have a more cooperative Congress, if Americans finally ditch their flirtation with extremist Teabaggers, as Republican leadership seeks to regain some semblance of professional pride and attempt to restore their chances at winning the White House in 2016 - The economic cycle will swing more favorably in the second term (growth is imminent, signs are everywhere, DOW almost back to peak, HUGE pent up capital reserves and demand for new capital equipment, R&D investment, services) - Massive grassroots organizing aimed at Constitutional Amendment to end Citizen's United permanently - Welcome back Glass-Steagall in the second term. - New investments in smart-grid and alternative energy likely to pay-off during second term: Many changes in solar, wind, tidal and fuel cell will start to decentralize power generation. - New investments in infrastructure (bridge repair, grid, schools, light-transport) will set the table for an extended period of growth
The fat lady hasn't even started to warm up her voice yet. This ain't even close to "over". Sit back, BRIGGS. Don't worry so much.
holfresh@ 10/5/2012 9:00 AM
Jobs numbers just out was good for the month of Aug....The revisions to the previous month's Job reports were good as well...Unemployment percentage is now showing up at 7.8% which is lower than when Obama took office (7.8% seen for the first time in 4 years)...Below the 8.0% threshold is huge Obama...Republicans are outraged saying the numbers have been fudged...It will be a sprint to the finish...
Jack Welsh former CEO of GE and who has been critical of the Obama Administration for 4 years just out on Twitter: "Unbelievable job numbers...Can't debate so change numbers"...Just WOW!!!!

Funny how most of the Knick haters are homers on this thread.

I'm not voting for Romney by the way, but this thread says everything that makes me glad I'm not a liberal.

Romney(Jimmy Fallon) and Obama tells Jim Lehrer to STFU.....

Me neither, this was the best thing he did on SNL, helps to be familiar with the bee gees.

Not for nothing but what have the Republicans done for this country except get us into unnecessary wars, profiteering, raise the debt, lower our standing in the world, almost destroy the world economy... How anyone can be a Republican after all the damage they've done is beyond me. There's nothing wrong with being a conservative, but the Republican party is merely a rouse. It's big business tricking average Americans to vote against their own interests. They use the conservative movement to push their big business ideals on the country. last 30 yrs the middle class has been decimated as the corporations have prospered like the Gilded Age Robber Barons.

Tell me again about TARP funds, Mr. Social Leveler? Tell me again how unemployment's been almost unfazed for four years while the stock market's back to high levels again, and tell me about how Democratic liberalism is all about "real, average Americans".
What flavor is that blue Kool Aid, anyway?
Talk to me about how the Democrats have had such a tremendous impact on the ecomomy in the last 60 years. Tell me a story about the Great Society...how'd that work out for you? Jimmy Carter, Billy Clinton and the fabulous dot com bubble.
Tell me about how the shining Democratic liberalism helped to topple the USSR. Tell me how people like Lech Walesa are going to thrive and survive in the great socialist state your current POTUS has wet dreams about?

Jeez, I've told you time and again, my man Alan Keyes. Write in. Every year.
And don't give me the pragmatic sheehit line about "throwing your vote away".
The only time you throw away a vote is when you don't.

1 poor debate for Prez Obama but there are other days to go & we accept his honesty But at same time realize he is like real people , which is showing he is far from mistakes Or to er'r is human.
All in all honesty cant be counted on from Brick Bombney or whichever his name is.
As a former long time govt fed worker all i can say as far as govt military if Romney wins The govt will be in huge trouble as far as armed forces. Call it operation send troops out of Usa in tons again to be killed for the right winger"s personal needs! & rich corp honchos interests.

BRIGGS wrote:This will be the end of Obama--he has almost no chance imho to stop the avalanche started tonight. Watch the polls flip tomorrow and never look back. Im very surprised to not hear Obama slam George Bush over and over---and commenting that we were on the brink of system failure by a Republican candidate and it took 4 years just to get us into position to get back on track--do we want to go back there---nope he was defensive and looked frazzled--he got killed and this debate will create tremendous momentum for Romney that will be hard to stop in just 5 weeks.
Yes - it is more in sadness than in anger, but unfortunately Obama must be replaced. We were all excited after his win in '08, but it's clear that he is just in over his head. Unemployment is high, the deficit is out of control, and our military is in retreat around the world. Like Carter, Obama is simply not competent to be president. I believe Mitt Romeny is the man to clean up Obama's mess. He has shown an ability to work with the other side, whereas Obama has never reached out a hand to Republicans.

No one has said that Republicans have never done anything, but overall people in the US have done better under Democratic Presidents. This is an irrefutable fact. The last 2 Republican Presidents vs. the last 2 Democratic Presidents really are the most relevant IMO. Obama had to climb up out of the huge hole that Bush left or it would be an even bigger lead.
Republicans
Richard Nixon: Increase of 7.1 million jobs Gerald Ford: Increase of 1.3 million jobs Ronald Reagan: Increase of 14.7 million jobs George H.W. Bush: Increase of 1.5 million jobs George W. Bush: Decline of 646,000 jobs
Total: Increase of 23.9 million jobs under Republican presidents
Democrats
John F. Kennedy: Increase of 2.7 million jobs Lyndon B. Johnson: Increase of 9.5 million jobs Jimmy Carter: Increase of 9.0 million jobs Bill Clinton: Increase of 20.8 million jobs Barack Obama: Increase of 332,000 jobs
Total: Increase of 42.3 million jobs.
The deep hole Bush left Obama and what he did to fix it with the Republicans trying their best to put a stop to everything he did to fix the mess!
Americans make more money under Democrats too!!!
I would say that voting Republican means you're voting against your own best interests, unless you're Mitt or one of his rich friends of course
Bonn1997@ 10/7/2012 7:52 AM
I think Romney will get a sizable bounce from the last debate. The Rasmussen tracking poll is partly from before and partly from after the debate and it already bounced about 4 or 5 points, now to Romney +2.

U guys act as thought facts have any bearing in this forum or in the American political arena...What's actually shocking is the amount of lying Romney did during the debate and it wasn't even addressed by pundits...It was a great performance regardless of whether or not his words were factual...Style wins over substance...We are a hollow society...Romney supporters don't see this as a problem either, they encourage it, if it means victory...Republicans/Conservatives says he is merely shifting positions...
Maureen Dowd cast a little light on it in an amusing op-ed:
Which should be titled, but Governor Romney, you are lying....
