NBA · Summary of Jeremy "Gift" Lin's Pre-Season.... (page 17)

Simply put, imo, he has sucked so far and I don't believe it has anything to do with an injury or ailments. He is under-performing.
Who cares? That is Rockets problems to deal with.
I think you care. I myself care. I hope he does well.

It's funny. Lin is not signed and a good portion of this board erupts in seething anger... Lin then proceeds to suck and/or be average and people say "who cares". LoL!

Of course I care if Lin plays well. I love the guy and I wish him well. He's fun to watch and he is, frankly, still an underdog kind of player. As far as rooting for Houston Rockets. Maybe for a certain teams. I was rooting for them tonight against the stupid Heat.
I'm so sick of Knicks fans shitting on him and wishing he would fail. Let it go. He had a good run here in NY. There is no need to be venomous toward the guy. If you want to witness it for yourself, just pop in over to ESPN conversation. So many Knicks, including Rockets fans are shitting on him. And some of what they are say are freaking racist as hell.
Let the guy play his game. What is funny is that they claim to dislike the guy so much but yet, they're following every single Rockets games and wish for him to fail.
I wish for him to succeed. It's a nice feeling to see him have a great game.
I don't ever recall anyone calling any black NBA players the N word out of spite and frustration or hatred because they were angry with the guy but I guess it's okay to call Lin a gook and a chink and whatever nasty colorful comments they could come up with.
Jeremy Lin is technically in the Jackie Robinson position.

Its not that funny. At this point he is just another x-knick. So really, who cares? I do wish him well. Let sky be the limit. I am not interested in seeing him fail, but I am just as disinterested in seeing him succeed. I haven't watched any Rocket, Nugget nor Net games.

I don't wish failure on anyone. I just stated a fact regarding Lin's play thus far and your panties are now in a bunch. Also, I have never called Lin a derogatory word and I don't think I have seen anyone do so on this board so I don't even know why you are bringing that up.
Lin feeds the ball to Harden almost instantaneously on every possession and runs off to the corner perimeter and camp out. He's always out of reach, out of sight and out of position where he's not able to get the ball back for a possible shot.
What the hell kind of plays are they giving him? He's not doing this on his own. The Rockets designed a play where everyone spectates around Harden. The only time Lin ever gets assists or points was if he creates a steal for himself or if his teammates are locked up defensively and he has no choice but to shoot the ball.
Once in a while, he gets that open 3's and he makes some, misses some.
Under Woodson, Lin was active. He doesn't pass off and run off to the corner or stands around and spectate. Rockets clearly have no idea how to utilize him in their offense. It just seems like they don't even have any faith in the guy at all.
I sense the Rockets fans are going to turn on him soon. Lakers need to swing into action and grab Lin from Rockets and make him a back-up PG for Nash under D'Antoni.

I was talking about ESPN Conversation chat, not you.
but still about J.Lin
I'm glad ! the hated Miami Heat took down Rockets Jeremy Lin tonight in real pro game which counted.
yea yea I know Miami squeaked by in houston
but I cant stand the Rockets, GM and ownership bamboozling the Knicks along with sneaky J.Lin Agent killed knicks in talks
to resolve Jeremy back to NY.
I dislike Rockets are much as Heat/ Pacers /Celts /Bulls /Mavs / Lakers
However the bull_spit Jeremy Lin he went down tonight
Good ! we dont care bout Rockets beating heat correct ?
Let that team lose these kind of games. Untils he is NY he isnt a Knick now.
So I will wish Rockets worst & wont give Lin any kudos this upcoming season.

Other than low FG%, those #s are solid - outstanding in the case of rebounds, steals, and FT% (19 for 21). Your agenda is obvious.
Let it go. Who cares. If he's awesome then good for Rockets but he doesn't have anything to do with Knicks anymore. I wish him all the luck in a world and I hope he turns into a future All-Star player.
I must admit though that I thought Lin would be taking more shots, but with Harden there it looks like they are trying to show the world he is a franchise player, but not after those first 2 games. Still gonna watch them.
earthmansurfer wrote:Well, he only had 2 TO's against the Heat lat night, so at least haters of Lin can shut up in that regards. The one really bad game he had was replaced by 9pts, 6 assists, 1 reb, 1stl and 3 blocks - not great but not terrible, at least considering it was against the heat and they almost beat them.I must admit though that I thought Lin would be taking more shots, but with Harden there it looks like they are trying to show the world he is a franchise player, but not after those first 2 games. Harden doesn't trust Lin. I just don't see it. Lin is actually playing and putting up back up PG numbers (AT THE MOMENT). As good as he is, I just don't think he should carry so many minutes on a goofy team like the Rockets since they don't know what to do with him.
This is why I believe he should go to L.A and be with MDA and back Nash up. He could always come off the bench and contribute his 10 to 15 points and 6 assists and 4 steals and 3 rebounds on nightly basis.
Rockets just doesn't know how to utilize him and they are wasting him by just having him there on the team purely as a PROP. You know MDA and Nash would endorse the trade if it were possible.

I think his contract makes it impossible. Also team goals are different. Lakers aren't building and developing guys like the rockets. They are in win now mode. Kobe presents the same or bigger problems then melo for a guy like Lin

He has sucked. That is that. 11.9 points is just far below expectations. His FG% is atrocious and unacceptable. 6 assists per game is nothing special. The only good thing he has done is get steals. This is a guy that people thought was going to get 20 and 10 or in that vicinity. He has not even remotely began to sniff that and most likely won't. These numbers don't even approach Lin-sanity output. They are not even close. These current numbers don't even begin to make all the whining about the "Gift" look reasonable or justified. Lin has been downright awful and even the fans in Houston are furious. Yes, HOU fans appear to being openly disgusted with this "Gift". You can call a turd roses if you like but I won't choose to engage in such utter sugar-coating and shenanigans.
If and when Lin plays well I will freely admit it. I think he has had one good game as a Rocket and all other games have been average to terrible. Lin's turnovers are down but it seems that the primary reason for this is that Harden is essentially the primary ball handler now.

You're arbitrarily selecting one or two stats and ignoring the bigger picture. You're not gonna be able to combine all the stats and give them the appropriate weights. You're clearly giving too much weight to FG%. He's taking 10.7 shots a game and making .373. If he was shooting .420 instead, that's gonna correspond to 0.47 more shots made per game (or one more shot every 2 to 3 games). That's more than outweighed by the fact that he's getting 2 more rebounds and 1.5 more steals a game than he should be. Per every 2 games, he's making about 1 less shot and giving about 4 more rebounds and 3 more steals than you'd expect. I suggest just looking at his win shares or wins produced, which will give the appropriate weighting to each stat for you.

He is playing bad. He is putting up numbers below or maybe comparable to Felton's career numbers right now. Last time I checked, this board spent the entire summer calling Felton terrible, bad, loser and under-achiever, etc.

No, you're just giving the wrong weighting to different elements of the game.

You know someone is making excuses when they resort to an argument about weighting the stats wrong. All the disgruntled HOU. fans are weighting the stats wrong. All the "analyst" / bloggers / newspapers that have come out and said the Knicks made the right decision (in regards to Lin) and/or discussed Lin's bad play are weighting stats wrong. All the people that see Lin bricking and air-balling shots are weighting stats wrong. HOU. coach putting the ball in Harden's hand more often than Lin's to bring the ball up the court and/or run the offense is also weighting stats wrong.
Linsanity can only happen once and it can only happen in New York.
Linsanity is dead.
"ball don't lie"
