Knicks · Stat out through November now? (page 4)

I wonder if they would try to buy him out? Its a big contract though. Imagine who we could sign if they gave the Knicks cap relief. Stat probably wouldnt be interested anyway unless he could take a season off, try and get himself right, and "unretire" later. If that is possible.

Amare isn't retiring.

Actually I think Roy was amnestied.

Buying him out wouldn't accomplish much. Whatever dollar amount he and the Knicks agree to would count against the cap for the length of his contract. I.E. if they agreed to a buyout of $30M then we would have a cap hit of $10M for the next three seasons. And we're so far over the cap that cutting around $13M per year won't help us do anything other then pay less luxury tax.

Wiz starting without Wall or Nene. 2 starters. Kobe is iffy, Bynum is always chronic, and Dwight needs more time.

But you know those are not my guys. Knicks are my guys and Im not worried about the others.

Deron Williams will have a troublesome ankle all season, Gallo and Wilson Chandler has minoe problems and Kevin Love is out too. A lot of injuries to start the season.

Why are people angry with Amar'e? It's not his fault! His contract isn't his fault either, give the man a break, no ones more frustrated about this than he is.

Doctor: More going on in Stoudemire's knee

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Jared Zwerling

When news broke Monday night that Amar'e Stoudemire would be out another six to eight weeks, it sparked a lot of speculation as to the root of his left knee problem.

But one renowned orthopedist strongly believes that Stoudemire's recovery from the ruptured popliteal cyst isn't the only thing he's facing.

"Something else is going on in his knee besides the Baker's cyst," said Stephen E. Blythe, a Miami surgeon who's been practicing for more than 40 years and has experience treating pro athletes. "It's unusual to rest someone that long. I'd be looking at really what's wrong with the inside of his knee that causes a Baker's cyst, and how is that going to affect things?"

The doctor said that because Stoudemire is a patient of microfracture surgery in 2005, he already has some damaged bone in his knee. Therefore, some degenerative changes could have been giving him trouble lately, resulting in the popliteal cyst. While the doctor said that many regular people have asymptomatic Baker's cysts, Stoudemire's was likely larger and more symptomatic.

But even if it ruptured, and may have required a surgical procedure to clean up the inside of his knee, it wouldn't take up to eight weeks for Stoudemire to return.

"The cyst doesn't add any stability or instability to the knee at all," Blythe said. "It just bulges out in the back of your knee, and most of the time, it's symptomatic when it gets large enough that it causes mechanical symptoms in the back of the knee. But when it ruptures, the inflammation, bleeding and so forth usually go away fairly quickly."

The doctor said there is likely more knowledge on Stoudemire's knee that is yet to be released.

"There's information there that you don't know about," he said. "It sounds to me like (the Knicks) are just giving some information, but not full information about what's going in the knee. The only way you'll know if there's more to it than what they say is if the team or the surgeons are willing to give that info to you."

What we do know, however, is that Stoudemire's left knee will never be 100 percent again. In fact, another orthopedist surgeon who currently works for a championship-contending team said, "Stoudemire's knees, at this point in his career, are like a 70-year-old's." (His right knee has also been operated on.)

Knicks fans may have to deal with the reality that STAT's minutes could be curtailed, but he can still be effective in the time he plays. Perhaps that's more with the second unit?

People are angry because we have been waiting a year and a half for him to play normally again and you never get the truth about what's really happening..Like we have been waiting for McDyess, like we have been waiting for Alan Houston...

Deron had a shot and feels great.

The only one responsable to giving an uninsured 100mm contract is the owner who has to pay for it.

If PHX is only willing to go 3 yers The team was suitably warned about Amare's potential problems.

Blame the process by which decisions get made. When you change that you might have a team one day.

Deron said he'd need it operating on in the offseason, so likely once the shot wears off, the ankle will be nagging him for much of the season.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be angry, just that I don't think it's fair that they are angry at Amar'e- not his fault. Blame Walsh for the contract. Blame the Knicks for pointlessly lying about injuries (I'd love to know their reasoning).

And remember, no Amar'e would have meant no Melo and no Tyson. We'd be stuck with Gallo and Wilson Chandler, and much as I like them, are very injury prone themselves.

Howard Beck ‏@HowardBeckNYT

Knicks just announced that Amare Stoudemire needs "left knee debridement" and is out approx. 6-8 weeks.

http://medical-dictionary.thefreediction...

Surgical debridement
Surgical debridement (also known as sharp debridement) uses a scalpel, scissors, or other instrument to cut dead tissue from a wound. It is the quickest and most efficient method of debridement. It is the preferred method if there is rapidly developing inflammation of the body's connective tissues (cellulitis) or a more generalized infection (sepsis) that has entered the bloodstream. The procedure can be performed at a patient's bedside. If the target tissue is deep or close to another organ, however, or if the patient is experiencing extreme pain, the procedure may be done in an operating room. Surgical debridement is generally performed by a physician, but in some areas of the country an advance practice nurse or physician assistant may perform the procedure.

The physician will begin by flushing the area with a saline (salt water) solution, and then will apply a topical anesthetic gel to the edges of the wound to minimize pain. Using a forceps to grip the dead tissue, the physician will cut it away bit by bit with a scalpel or scissors. Sometimes it is necessary to leave some dead tissue behind rather than disturb living tissue. The physician may repeat the process again at another session.

Let's see which Knick player gets traded first.....

Amare isn't going anywhere this year it seems.

It's a treatment for arthritis:

http://osteoarthritis.about.com/od/osteo...

Basically he's just having his knee scoped, lots of players have it done, 6 to 8 weeks is the standard.

Then he has to
- get back in playing shape
- get his rhythm back
- get his jumper back
- get his explosiveness back
- get his timing back

I remember Amare last season and he looked terrible until late in the season.

This is like a bad re-run of last season.

smackeddog @ 10/30/2012 5:42 PM
Ironically, all that running and two a days every day of the offseason probably exasperated the problem due the the wear and tear it put on his knees.

Hmpf!

He won't be back for a while. Amar'e probably has more lose, scarred, torn tissue than most NBAers having to go through such a procedure for the first time.
