Of course this all from owner James Dolan
Oakley a true knick has said both good and bad about the knicks. Fact of matter he's not off on either side of argument

Makes you wonder how Breen is still calling games on the MSG side as he can be very critical of the team at times. In an honest way though.
Dolan one day maybe he'll be forced out one can only hope. Maybe the worst owner in all of sports.

I find Breen to have an agenda but I don't see him as critical of the team. Breen seems to have been really tight with D'Antoni and is very anti-melo. Its non-professional and I am glad on national broadcasts that JVG calls him on it. If an inept coach is a good quote, hangs out with the media, and maybe goes out to dinner with them on the road eventually resigns because his rigidity or inability to adapt to his players upsets a media member to the point where they express a bias maybe that person should be let go as well.

thing with Breeny he says what he says objectively about the goods and bads of knicks
however in the end he always puts knicks in a good light in remarks and we all know he
is a hom-er for the hometown knicks & I'd bet MSG accepts it cause Breeny is Knicks
1st , last and always.
Aside from commentator HOF Walt Frazier, Breen like Clyde dying for Knicks title
thus he's kept around cause msg views them as employees and HUGE fans of knickerbockers period

I agree but it was hard to listen to Breen criticize Melo when the Knicks went 18-6 and he was arguably the best player in the nba for that stretch.

One particular game that comes to mind was the Bulls overtime thriller last season, Derrick Rose was 8-26 that game and took some horrible shots and Breen kept saying wow what a move etc not once criticizing his shot selection , however that very same game when Melo was on fire he was saying Melo was shooting too much , Van Gundy even called him out after Melo hit the game winner JVG said who's shooting too much now, Breen proceeded to say that Melo had a 6'9 guy on him and was a few feet behind the three point line implying Melo should not have taken the shot, Breen is not anti Knick he's anti Melo because of Dantoni's firing and it quite annoying.
We have a coach, his name is woodson.
You really going to bring in Ewing as an assistant?
We have a big man coach, his name is Herb.
What does Oak want to do? His buddy was Mike. He gave him a job. Does Oak want to cook?
Oak was a Bull, A KNick and a Raptor.
Article is BS.
I agree with everything Oakley said, especially about the disrespect shown to Ewing by offering him the D-League job. Either offer him an assistant position with us or don't offer him anything.
is it respectful to fire an assistant who is doing well to hire ewing as an assistant just so we don't hurt his feelings?
Allan Is GM of the Dleague team.
Ewing was givin a head coach job to prove his meddle. Maybe he does well another team is impressed and he gets a gig.
Has he been a top assistant anywhere yet?
This is why you don't even let him hang around at all cuz all of a sudden knicks are made out like the bad guys when all they did was throw him a bone.
Lasalle Thompson might be a very hard working man who has earned his place. I don't know why Ewing is not given a head coaching job by the knicks or anyone else but it seems from the outside his resume as a coach is not enough. As for Oak he too needs to shut the phuch up. ONe year on the BOBCats is not make for a solid resume. There is a whole network of guys going from coaching clinics and building up their cred. I don't know if these guys are doing it or not but lets be real about it instead of nostalgic about what these guys were and meant to the organization. They were players, they were paid big for a job well done.
And if your going to speak out about the organization and you know the owner is a paranoid control freak then its pretty apparent your not going to get on with Dolan. To Dolan's credit, he does keep a fair amount of ex-players around if they want to further their career. LJ back in the fold, Starks, Mase, Herb, Allan, seem pretty well in the fold. I suppose we can't hold our breath for spree to make an appearence.

Who said anything about firing an assistant? Remember how many AC's Don Nelson had in Dallas? There's no limit on how many you can have. And there's a huge difference between being the GM of a D-League team and being a coach. As the GM Houston doesn't have to travel by bus to all of their games whereas the coach would have to do that.
Think creating an "Honorary" coaching position because you don't want to offend Ewing is gig with substance?
Ewing wants to be a head coach. He was not considered by Orlando. Knicks have woodson. Phil Jax went form an Assistant in the NBA to the Continental as a head coach and proved himself. Same for george Karl. Its been done by others as well.
If its beneath Ewing to do so thats his choice.
Woodson has his crew. Maybe you don't want a playing legend around who has yet to prove he is head coaching material but very motivated to be one on the staff cuz such a coach MIGHT undermine the staff if the right opportunity arose.

I'm not saying that they had to hire him or offer him a position. I'm just agreeing with Oakley that offering him the head coaching job for the D-League squad is disrespectful.
I don't know why players think that because they player for a team that team should give them preferential treatment when considering coaches. And yes Oak, the critical things you say about an organization (true or not) will affect their decision to hire you. If you want a job with an organization don't go around saying how much that organization sucks.
not all great former players are head coach material on the professional level.
as with any potential head coach, ego is always going to be an issue. as with any potential head coach, leadership ability especially in reading players, and a mind for the game is always going to be an issue too.
did he grow as a coach in ten years? it sure doesn't look like he brought along howard sufficiently.
when the world is sending you a message maybe it's time to take a look in the mirror. there's no shame in that.

Breen doesn't need the Knicks, and they know it. The guy has options. Pat and Oak not so much. Marv is the same. Marv doesn't need the Knicks. His name speaks for itself.

Sad article, but true. Its no coincidence that the team has been terrible for more than a decade.

As much as I love Oak and Ewing, the team IS on an upswing, and they STILL don't have jobs with them. Andrew is right, don't expect a job from the organization that you say sucks out loud.
It's sad to say, but Oakley is lower on the credibility/basketball intelligence quotient than Barkley. I don't get what Dolan is trying to do treating Ewing like an STD, but Oakman?
The man's a wingnut.
Move on. Hopefully Oak got paid for his ummmm....thoughts.
Patrick Ewing would only be part of the MSG family on HIS OWN TERMS. Unfortunately, his terms will never come to pass because the Mecca is not going to hire a head coach with his lack of credentials. Dude is living in fantasy land. Even Donnie said he would be interested in the prospect of adding Ewing but that Ewing never called.
When asked about it, Ewing said he shouldn't have to call. Dudes own arrogance is working against him.
Oakley is just being petty. I understand Ewing wants to be a head coach but he has no prior head coaching experience and woody fits our team right now
IrishKnickFan wrote:Oakley is just being petty. I understand Ewing wants to be a head coach but he has no prior head coaching experience and woody fits our team right now
You can't play the previous head coaching experience card. How did these people land head coaching gigs? Ewing not getting a head coaching gig has got to have something to do with him personally, not his resume. He's been an assistant coach longer than most of these folks have been alive. [sarcasm]
Mark Jackson? At the end of the 2008 NBA season, Jackson unexpectedly quit his position with the YES Network. Mark Jackson was hired as head coach of the Golden State Warriors on June 6, 2011.
Monty Williams? In 2005, Williams was hired by new head coach Nate McMillan as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers. On June 7, 2010, Williams was offered a three-year contract to be the head coach of the New Orleans Hornets.
Avery Johnson? On October 28, 2004, Johnson retired from playing and signed as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks under Don Nelson. Johnson had played under Nelson from 2001–2003, and it was understood from the beginning that he was being groomed to eventually succeed Nelson as head coach. His transition from assistant to head coach came five months later on March 19, 2005 after Nelson resigned.
