Amare is the worst rebounder and defender out of all of our big man. Getting him back will not improve our interior D nor rebounding.

listen, it is about size... amare has length and if anything he can guard pf's, and he will help on the boards, let not act as if amare is not rebounding at all, we can use his 8 boards a game at the PF spot, and we know carmelo will get 6-7 at the sf spot.. it does help, no matter how you look at it... the problems we will have is on the offensive side with carmelo and amare, but that is another issue..

The way I look at it is Amare's game is such that its doesnt adress our glaring issues. Defending PF ? We have plenty of size on this team with better defense and rebounding. Amare will not help in those departments

Yeah but if you are not going to play Camby or Kurt you lose that size advantage.

bingo!

When Amare comes back he will play. If you think our d gets better with him in the game I disagree. I don't think I have ever seen him rotate properly on d, but that might change this year, same for his one on one D. While having bigger guys should improve rebounding by default, I'll give you that, however his presence on the D end looks like its going to be detrimental overall.

I didn't think we were talking about defense here.. we were talking about how we are getting mauled on the boards by bigger teams..and how amare should at least help in that area, not that he is a cure all here, but he should help..

The thread started off how we got owned in the front court. You were the one to bring up rebounds and yes our rebounds will/should improve with Amare. When it comes to our overall D, Amare will not help us, and I stand by that statement. With worse D there will be less rebounds, so the net gain will be negative. Unless, of course Amare has learned to stay in front of his man, switch on D or box out

NYKBocker @ 11/24/2012 11:23 PM
Asik has been killing everybody on the boards.

But he hasn't been scoring like he did on Chandler

Sheed would have busted Asik's azz.

Lesson learned. We repay the favor in New York.

Isn't about the defense, and as much as i appreciate Melo...he is overmatched in the four spot.

It's been covered up because the team is winning.

Melo isn't a four, on offense he aint destroying anyone, and on defense he is poor and his rebounding is dismal in that position.

He's averaging the same boards as the SF version.

This small ball is hurting the team, it should be used for stretches not permanently.

To make it worse some plays Melo is our Center.

Time to adjust, put a real 4 in that spot.

Not true, really- Sheed has never been a good rebounder (averaged less rebounds than Amar'e), Melo is only pulling down 7 per game, and Kurt isn't great at it either at this stage of his career. Amar'e will get you around 8 or 9 rebounds a game (though a bit inconsistently)- he's the least worst rebounder at the PF spot that we have.

Good catch. Not sure why I thought he was worse than his stats suggest. His rebounding is actually better than Rasheed's and about same as Kurt's if you adjust for the diff in minutes that they each average.

I think a lot of us on these boards think of Amar'e as a worse rebounder than he actually is- think those occasional 3 rebound stinkers must have gotten seared into our memories!

The problem is he rebounds like Curry did, the ones that come to him are not the problem. THe ones you have to fight and box out for are the rebounds that Stat rarely get's. We already saw him get pushed under the rim by the Raptors Kid.
